Katana67 2907 Posted May 16, 2014 the beauty of it is that is automatically generated so no one has to spend half their life drawing little lines all over the map. Going by the results in the pictures where even complex buildings had paths generated in them if anything it will allow the artists a lot more freedom to design more complex structures. Right, but does it mean that every time a new area is added, the entire thing has to be re-generated to accommodate it? I understand they are dividing it up into quadrants. I don't know all that much about navmesh.

I understand they are dividing it up into quadrants. I don't know all that much about navmesh. It won't require recreating a new mesh for the entire map, no. I don't know much about navmeshes, either, but I do know that they are breaking the map into sections; so, at worst, they'd only have to fix the mesh for whatever section the new area is in.

I understand they are dividing it up into quadrants.I don't know all that much about navmesh. Not the entire thing maybe the quadrant the area is in at most but as stated its done automatically so there wont be any problems adding new areas, last time I worked with navmesh it was all manual and took an age, really tedious work too. That was on the fallout 3 GECK, I believe skyrim uses a similar auto navmesh solution now too. Edited May 16, 2014 by Ricky Spanish
instynct 99 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) Ill bet they dont!! Ive worked with navmesh before its gonna be good, but dont worry im sure you can find plenty of other stuff to whine about..Yeah okay... saying you've worked with navmesh before when you really haven't makes you sound smart... navmesh is really buggy and knowing this engine it will probably be horribly buggy. joe_mcentire 2074 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) the trick is they've created their own little tool to update the map (or segments) whenever changes happen.http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/25pvxj/new_devblog_the_challenge_and_saga_of_zombie/chjln39 Edited May 16, 2014 by joe_mcentire

solodude23 649 Posted May 16, 2014 (edited) Awesome blog! Can't wait till the next experimental! :D Yeah okay... saying you've worked with navmesh before when you really haven't makes you sound smart... navmesh is really buggy and knowing this engine it will probably be horribly buggy. So instead of catching every chance you can get to complain why don't you play something else? Or wait and see instead of discussing the future? That's what I'd do if I was as unhappy sounding as you anyway. At the very least, create your own complaint thread and leave this one untarnished. And what are your expertise on this engine exactly? Navmesh can be buggy your right but is it not better than having infected run through walls? How do you cope in life being so negative anyway? Bet your a real buzzkill. Edited May 17, 2014 by Ricky Spanish

maybeme 22 Posted May 17, 2014 I for one would love to hunt in the game! It'd give the game another whole side to it! It'd be awesome to go out for a day with a couple of squad mates and hunt. Bag a deer or some wascaly wabbits, and roast them on the fire while comparing magazine size. Also, navmesh is a pain in the ass. I tried using the GECK from Fallout 3, and it was almost complete with a new area, except the navmesh never worked. Couldn't figure it out at all.

Mr Sinister 167 Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) Im so glad for this devblog it was getting really annoying seeing people whining about no progress due to the devs being fairly quiet.Long ago, after a great many things in life i became the kind of person to say things as i see them. Like this now, ive seen what they have planned and are pushing out and ive acted/commented appropriately, linked hicks stream a few days back and gave a thumbs up to it all. Things in life will teach you when you double your age to be rather, erm, pessimistic about a great many things, in particular when anything involves money. Its easy to be so trusting and have a much "rosier" out look etc when that paper gets plonked into your hand by parents. Wait till your 32. I'm 34, and you don't see me complaining about spending 30 bucks on a game and not having it "live up to expectations".. Probably because back a little before I turned 32, (like, around 15), I learned that expectations are for people who like being disappointed. Reality is, I've spent over 470 hours playing DayZ Standalone, and I spent 30 bucks on it.. I spent less than 2 hours of my time working, in exchange for 470+ hours of entertainment. "hard earned money".. Pffft.
