@ Svet

While yes, admins having powers to deal with hackers and such is a good thing, they're also abusable in other terms.

Realistically speaking, the fault of hackers lies with the developers for not implementing a decent anti-hack system.

Doesn't this shit have battle eye or VAC?

Those alone are not enough. We as PC gamers simply must accept that the price of having unique comunities that spring up around servers comes with the risk for abuse. its really simple if you dont like the admins dont play there, dont donate to that server. abusive servers tend to dry up in most serious cases.

Passing the buck to clans/communities to foot the bill for hosting and having almost no options/control of the environment is just stupid. Im sorry it's that simple. If your going to say that every server must have 24hrs day night, every server must have x player slots, you cant have reserved slots for donors, etc etc then you know what, stop renting server and let rocket pay for it.

the purpose of paying for a server is to provide an enjoyable place for your comunity to play, not to foot the bill for the devs.

You cant compare mods helis to what we are going to get. In the mod the helis were joke to fly and maintain.

If they port helis from take on helis and their flight dificulty as max without autotrims and shit no casual codkids can fly them properly. After that make maintaining them so that you woudnt want to risk getting shot at..

Helis wont be anything game breaking, maybe only usefull for groups to an extent as transport..

We have sea and an island that's barely reachable by swimming... And we have to say no to boats?

Like I said biplanes are ok imo.

Fixed that for you

I think 1 - 2 helis per server would be ok. I would prefer them being without any guns, but make it so that players can shoot out of them instead.

Also it would be quite task to fix one, even without broken windows causing it to leak fuel.

Submarines were never in the mod, Frost.

Regardless the boats thread was a counter-argument to let people agreeing with your opinionated thread see how stupid it is, to everyone else.

Though in reality, it'd be nice to have actual islands.

Judging by the rate this game is being developed, it will take years for the game to exit alpha and actually have helis.

And with the growth of the dev team I expect the pace to pick up dramatically soon, its taking awhile because they are working on major engine changes ffs. What do you know about game development exactly? your comment is just unnecessary and off topic. If it takes time for things to be done right then I don't mind waiting.

This topics actually making me think about choppers though, there is many pros and cons and the more I think about it the more unsure I am. I guess we will just have to see what happens , it all comes down to how they and camping are implemented.

I agree. I'm all for choppers in the Alpha so that we can test them out and see how the affect game play. If they allow people to dominate the map once again like I expect them to, they should be removed...

That really what you want?

Yes, I don't have an issue with helicopters as a concept. Which you apparently do. I don't have an issue with the benefits they give players who have them, because they can be mitigated or made rewarding (vice being simplistic) via the mechanics you dismiss as irrelevant.

The end result is the same (i.e. Player X has a helicopter), but the process in maintaining/repairing/flying/refueling/finding a helicopter isn't. Making something rare, for example, decreases the overall likelihood that it will even be encountered in the first place.

The only issue that I ever had in the mod with helicopters, was how easy it was to spot folks in forests and how easy it was to spot tents. Which is a separate issue.

No. I don't have a problem with the concept of helicopters. I think they fit perfectly into Battlefield 3/4.. I think they're just find in ARMA.. I have a lot of fun with Helicopters in the DayZ Mod.

I also think they SHOULD NOT be in DayZ Standalone for the same reason that they are absolutely overpowered in DayZ Mod.

Rarity or difficulty will not change the impact helicopters have on the game. You're delusional/ignorant if you think otherwise. Helicopters = Birds eye view of the entire map. That's the only factor which matters.

Let's compare them to nukes..

Nukes are difficult to make. They require a lot of science/industry to create functional nuclear missiles. But what are the consequences? ANYONE who has a nuke has the ability to wipe a city off the face of the Earth, and the ability to make an entire section of the Earth incapable of sustaining life for hundreds of years.

By my logic, nobody should have nukes, just like nobody in DayZ should have helicopters.. Doesn't matter how difficult or rare they are. They shouldn't exist because the power they give any group that has them is too great.

One, not going to lower myself to that level.

Second, there's much more (by your own admission) that matters other than the view provided by helicopters (which can also be mitigated, as well). And you're trading stealth for a better view, which is a fair trade off.

Third, there's so much to fault with the nuke analogy that I won't even waste time pointing it out.

I think the "overpowered" nature of helicopters, especially in DayZ, has been vastly overstated. That and I'm not a huge fan of artificial balance anyhow.

I don't get killed by helicopters that often in the mod, even though they're supposedly "all over the place." I get shot down every time I pilot one in Overwatch. Point being, even if I acknowledge that rarity is a non-issue (which it is), helicopters don't actually provide one with the ability to "dominate" the map.

They can be downed by small arms fire in the mod, to say nothing of the standalone. Moreover, they should be a force to reckon with. They should be something to fear.

why are people expecting and demand any kind of balance in dayz, there is no balance when you spawn and i dont see why it shoudlnt stay that way.

I don't even view it from the overpowered or underpowered stand point.

I view choppers from a logical and realism stand point.

There is not a chance in hell survivors would just simply be able to pilot and or maintain any chopper without having extensive previous experience.

You want to know what happens when a person with no chopper experience gets in one and by a stroke of luck even manages to turn it on ?

That happens.

Helicopters just arent a realistic prospect not to mention all of the negatives they would bring to the game.

My main gripe with helicopters is simple - whoever has one, controls the map.

Helicopters not only nullify distance, but also the threat of other players. When you're moving at 200 KPH, way in the clouds, you're not in any danger at all. Small arms fire barely tickles you when you're on the ground, in the air it's nigh on impossible to get hit.

Tell that to the 300 plus choppers my squad downed in the mod. Thats probably lowballingly modest as well. Also, easy pickens on parachuting survivors.

Absolutely can't wait for choppers.

How do you plan on doing that in standalone since there is an emphasis on civilian weapons ?

You gonna use that mosin to down a helo ? The ruger 1022 ? you going to use the double barreled shotgun ?

That was all possible in dayz mod because it was just arma 2 with zombies.

Yeah, not exactly hard with infinite AS50 rounds tbh.

What makes you think the Mosin is the last sniper system to make it into SA? We've seen the AS50 in the pbo's already, SVD is coming and it wouldn't surprise me to see a DMR make an appearance as well. We're less than half-way to 1.0 and still have a lot of distance to cover my friend.

Yeah, not exactly hard with infinite AS50 rounds tbh.

Although we did use the AS50, it was late in the mod when we started using it. In the beginning we used DMR's and those worked fine cracking skulls in driver seats as well as rotor assemblies.

Yeah as soon as you get a chopper you can go anywhere with your friends and just get all the food/ammo in a map they're so damn pointless.

"They make it faster to get around the map"

You're not supposed to be able to get everywhere in minutes, it's a survival game there are no fast travel options in real life, you can't just pilot a helicopter with no training in real life so why should DayZ be like that when it's supposed to be as much like real life as possible?

Play the mod or play ARMA/Battlefield if you want to have helicopters in a game, instead of turning DayZ in to more of a war game than bandits already make it.

Alpha striking Heli's is easy.. 3-5 survivors with MK Mods, wait until the chopper flies over and is in range, aim slightly ahead of it, and 1 person call out on teamspeak "fire", and all players begin firing their MK Mod's... Heli's melt.

Still not the point. There should be no heli's in SA. Also ,if you think AS50's are going to be in SA, you're going to be sadly mistaken. They're in the PBO's because a lot of the PBO's were ported over from ARMAIII.

i've taken down helis with an axe.

My signature is non-fiction.  So, yeah, I know what it's like to be too good for most people.  Helicopters?  Pfft.  Zero fucks given.

But seriously, spread the parts over multiple servers on a given hive, make clans work to get parts?  Do the same with vehicle parts.  Watching a helicopter be built would be more epic than watching the Gates of Ahn'Qiraj open.

And maybe I've just been drinking the Dev's Kool-Aid, but once a Helicopter goes up in a hive, and persistent loot is a thing, You're going to have a full server hunting it down.
