Neutral safe zones that physically prevent combat

Recommended Posts

There should be a safe zone that physically prevents players from being hostile. Like for example there could be a small area at the edge of the map that provides a safe place to meet people. Players could still be able to attack people leaving that place but at least there would be some non violent interaction.

It would allow players to meet, form groups, trade.

Obviously the immersion fundamentalists will hate on this because they hate everything but the advantages of such a place would outweigh concerns of it being too gamey. Because the current fundamentalist "no rules" skews the gameplay towards pure shoot on sight which is not realistic because in the real world people would have the need for socializing in the apocalypse or go insane (excepf for a few people that can survive alone)

No. Contrary to everything this game is intended for. The only safe zones you get are the ones you create yourself.

And the entrance/entrances to the place would be a heaven for bandits ;)

Yeah it would just have a fucktonne of douches and griefers camped out side.

There are safezones all over the map anyway... I call them "the middle of fucking nowhere".

they have safe zones in the mod (right?). I think i remember hearing that they're going to implement some kind of trading system... It would be very difficult to have a trading system without a safe zone.

That was Epoch, the DayZ vanilla mod never had safe zones or traders so far as I recall.

See the issue is that I am getting bored of

1. Spawn

2. Beeline to next airfield

3. Gear up

4. Bee line back to berezino

5. sneak up on new spawns

Obviously you guys already travel in large clan groups using TS and have no need for socializing. But fact is the game is seriously lacking any form of socializing with players you dont know. Because risking my hours/days worth of loot against the slim chance of small talk with someone is a shitty bet. And this lack of social interaction except for 500 million torture tools rocked adds regularly  is just as unrealistic as a HUD in your face all the time. Because in real life people have the need to socialize at some point. And the game is not modeling that.

The problem is that there is no common enemy to speak of. PvP will remain the same until players get bigger fish to fry. Fish like more Z than you can dodge / kill by yourself.

You should find a new game. I'm sorry but dayz is meant to be brutal.

This has been suggested before and is a horrible idea. This isn't WarZ. Also people would just sit outside and camp all day and shoot people going in and out. Players can already meet and form groups and trade, I have done it numerous times this is part of the damn game SURVIVAL. Having magical neutral invulnerability zones its a terrible childish carebear idea.

NEXT.

Excellent idea! They could force players to shoulder their weapons when entering a city and turn off friendly fire within 2000 meters. Maybe there could be some NPC traders where you can buy mystical weapons like "Blazing AKM of 1000 Rounds", and Guildmasters with optional quests ranging from "Zombie Assistant" to "Bandit Bean Trials".

We don't need a trading system implemented, we have one already... it's called player interaction.

Well if ever that safezones appear, they should look like this on wide open fields:

I see what you're going for OP, but unfortunately it won't work. As others said, it would have people camp outside with their snipers ready to pick off anyone that comes out. Wanna know my way of dealing with KoSers once and for all? Zombies. Lots and lots of zombies running at you. You fire a gun, you better run like your pants are on fire, because you just rang the dinner bell. :D

OP, have you ever heard of the game Nether?

There's your reason as to why I hate SZ's in a survival game. period.

Hello there

Woah there

Lets all be a little nicer.

The safe zone idea has been explored before and I can see some people's reasoning for wanting one, but they will not be included as far as im aware as the devs want as much as possible of the world to be player driven/motivated.

So as others have said, IF a trading system was wanted the players would have to organise it themselves as in real life with all the risks involved.

Now, as the game is in its early stages there's alot missing which at the moment is turning the game into a bit of a PvP fest, once more mechanics are introduced tot he game we should see less KoS as there will be more point to being humanistic (whilst those who want to be psycho can still be that).

And when folk are more civilised (or there's an incentive to be) then we will see "safe zones", but they'll be player run.

Lastly, permanent safe zones do come with a heap of issues all of their own.

I see your point but I find it a bit too optimistic. In the mod there was the same expectation. That after some time people would team up. But that never materialized. And the only groups I saw so far have been people that are trusted friends already outside of the game.

Also the whole minimalist approach of the developers for "forcing nothing + 100% player decision" does not work out when it comes to a realistic representation of a zombie breakdown. The game models basic needs really well and the fact that humans are very dangerous creatures when society falls apart but the desire to socialize is not modeled at all.

And the unlimited PVP is not a great piece of design work, it is simply them dropping the ball on the bandit system. All it took for the current PVP gameplay was to remove the part of the code from arma2 that flags your friendly fire, thats it.
