One thing that baffles me is that they want less calibers and they added a .357 Revolver when they could have done a .45 one like the Mod.

L85 and L86 variants. Possibly a Minimize too.

We already have gear suggesting the UK was involved in the initial incident - Assault Vests, DPM camoflauge etc. We should also have the weapons used.

Add PLCE webbing, too.

I don't know how to say, but well.

Quite a big part of the Community wants weapons, which:

- fit the scenario/history/backround

- won't mess up the gameplay

Also civilian weapons are preferred over military special-gear.

I could see a .50-cal in DayZ, and it could work, if sniping is influenced by wind, weather, etc. and if the Ammo would rare enough to find, the weapon get's dirty, etc. etc.

IMO, the priority for adding firearms should be:

- History and Backround (no typical american firearms, if eastern "counterparts" exist. for example  Rem.870 <=> MP-153  ;) )

- Gameplay and Balance (and sometimes realism must be screwed over to maintain fairness and fun in the game)

- Far more civilian firearms than mil. weapons (like a ratio from 1:3 or even 1:6 for milgear : civilgear)

I don't really know you, so don't be angry ;)

You could either be a "little kiddo", who wants "his" favourite gun in the game to camp, etc. If this is your intention, I will be against this ;)

But if you know, what the DEVs and the biggest part of the Community want, and understand, that smth. like your wish can "only" be implemented later on, when the game's balanced is changed to accept such a thing, then it's cool to suggest a gun like this. ;)

However, smth. like your rifle in the current game is a totally utterly NO-GO (for me personally)

(People could be sniped from far far away, because there is only bullet-drop, which can be countered by the chernarusplus-map and zeroing. If ammo wasn't hard enough to find, people would just camp in the woods on the hills around a town, and DayZ would turn into a hard camp-fest)

IMO it fits the scenario, it could be good with gameplay as it is a specialised weapon IRL and the game should reflect this and encourage specialisations. I think they should add it later in Beta or something and make it truly balanced with mentioned sniping features

I don't know why it would fit the scenario and why the fact that it is a specialised weapon could make it be good with gameplay.

I do agree that there should be something like a .50 sniper rifle as mentioned earlier, one with massive firepower, range and accuracy that can rip a car engine apart in one shot. But with really rare ammunition. But if this is implemented, it should

1.) be a complete weapon (not parts scattered all through Chernarus)

2.) Gun should be more than extremely rare

3.) ammo should be extremely rare and only found in small quantities of 1-2 pieces

4.) should hinder movement massively

But I also agree that there is a drive towards too many military weapons in this community. I also think that more weapons commonly found within civilian ownership should show up more often in the game, particularly those of European and eastern European make. Also, I think the game should have way more handguns (including clip!) and less rifles. I find more SKS rifles in the game than I do Sporters or Double-Barrels

I have read that the devs have no interest in implementing the proper cartridge types for the firearms in game.

Since this seems to be the case, they can take their "hardcore" game and shove it, I'm sorry I wasted my money on it.

This attitude is only a symptom of worse to come.

In general I guess the tendency will be to make it a more mainstream game. Later you'll be respawning with more and more gear the more experience points you gathered from killing zombies, players and even bambis. Mark my words...

I wish there was someway i could get my 60 dollars back ,(bought a copy for my brother, from the devs and all the countless hours i spent on making this thread for the community.  I, for one, cannot believe this bull shit that the DAYZ STANDALONE CREATORS themselves, would not add the realistic specs to their game.  When usermods come out, almost every single one of them will contain "weapon name changes",  "new calibers (more realism!), "new weapons to replace the old shitty ones that made no sense".  Colt Python, fuck it.  Whats next?  Devs just give me a Liberator Pistol then, because obviously that gun would of ended up in Chernarus like the Colt Python, and the Blazer.  (Sarcarsm part for those who failed to notice it..)

Honestly, what the hell... i love this game, but i cannot stand to see it go down like this into a fierey pit of rage from the community.  Sure some of us will reply saying "oh its okay", "as long as i can still kill zombies!".  Others will be giving paragraph long responses to the devs either asking for their money back (which won't happen), why the game basically is just becoming another Zombie MMO with nothing quite unique, etc.

And to sum it all up  :)

CHS-0122-guaranteed-100-percent-pure-bul

Yeah, i'm done for now.  C'ya all later on in the future, hopefully by then the Devs will notice the community more on here rather than on Reddit.  Have a good one and God Bless!

EDIT: Go ahead and reply with your comments, do not expect a direct reply from me.  I frankly do not give a damn anymore   :)

EDIT 2: Erased PM-63 RAK, did 2 days worth of research on the firearm and concluded that it fits, i apologize to everyone for my lack of knowledge on the firearm at the time of this post.

Why ask for your 30 dollars back when some day, the mods will make this game awesome ;o)

Also, what is your problem with the PM-63 since you're not really saying why you think it's ridiculous. I mean, Colt Python I really can understand, I think this one and the Blaze have nothing to do with Chernarus.

What the fuck is wrong with a PM-63?

It's a very staple Cold War submachine-gun made in Poland. Seriously, it was used by Poland (duh), Bulgaria, East Germany, and even Russia.

Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Blaze & Python, okay, I can see why they might be upsetting. But the PM-63? That's one of the best SMGs they could've chosen to add. Even the MP5K was probably worse than it, although it's still a perfectly fine gun to have.

So seriously, what's wrong with it?

And honestly, the liberator is another terrible example of something to use when you're trying to say "unrealistic firearm". Thousands of them ended up dropped in Europe, so it's not improbable to suggest that a few would've made their way into Chernarus.

Reminds me I made a post on the Liberator before

"...there is no documented instance of the weapon being used for its intended purpose..."

"Many FP-45 pistols were never distributed and were destroyed by Allied forces after the war; most of those distributed were lost or disposed of without any combat use"

They never dropped them anywhere remotely near the Russians and in good condition they happen to be very expensive and uncommon nowadays.

Apparently they only dropped a fairly small number and the rest were just crushed and melted down.

Yeah, it was like ~25,000-50,000 of the 500,000 that were made actually got dropped. Still, it's not an example I would use when I want to compare guns that I feel wouldn't fit the game.

Then again, he's complaining about a PM-63 RAK, so it wasn't really a founded complaint to begin with.

(I'm not advocating for an FP-45 at all, though. There are other, more fitting survival arms that I would pick first.)

Reading the list I am shocked the FAL is not up there, while the M14 is.

The FN FAL is a much more plausible addition to the game than the M14. The long arm of the free world, this rifle was the service rifle of countless European and other nations, which means it makes sense for it to be either a local 'UN' spawn, helicopter spawn, or all of the above. Meanwhile, the M14 was only ever an American service weapon, and it was taken out of service years ago, its DMR role replaced with 7.62x51 AR platforms and the SCAR-H.

Let us put the long range scope on it and paint it green, like so:

I'd never play another game again.

I agree fully. Guns like the M14 or M16 should not make their way into the game.

Let's just leave these relics to rest in peace. If you add the M16 you might as well add the Chauchat FM1915 *LOL*

I need to blow some steam off, so here goes.

This is one of the hottest threads on this forum, and that worries me.

The game would be quite fine with the guns it has and another, say, 5-10 additions.

The real problem of the game, something that urgently needs work, is the melee system.

Just saying. Keep it in mind. There is so much talk about military guns that lots of people are so keen on seeing in DayZ because they rocked it in another video-game like Battlefield, Call of Duty or Medal of Honor or whatever. But this is DayZ. It is about survival.

And survival means that if a dude with an M4 is hunting a slightly geared bambi in Svetlojarsk, the bambi actually has a good chance of defending himself when hunkering up in the top floor of a building wielding and axe. Because YOU WOULDN'T SWING IT DOWNWARDS when the guy enters the room BUT LAUNCH IT SIDEWAYS into the doorframe in order to have a 99% hit chance with the only question being WHAT DO YOU HIT!

Check out Krav Maga videos for some strategies of unarmed melee combatants against people wielding guns. These kinds of fights were very common in World War II when Germans and Allied Forces faced off inside town buildings because rifles are a b*tch to handle indoors.

Fact is that somebody in a closed environment that is wielding an assault rifle has less of a chance against an unarmed combatant than somebody wielding a pistol due to maneuverability.

The game incorporates NOTHING realistic when it comes to close quarters combat. Maybe we can all put a lot of focus on this.

Don't take it personal if you've been posting on this thread often, I have too, and I understand why the topic is so hot.  But the threads I've posted on concerning melee are DEAD although this is one of the major weak points of the game and merit more attention than "do we need the G3 or the FN FAL in the game"?

Wrong. The US military still uses M16A2 and A4s. It is still a common weapon around the world.

As far as I know the setting has American troops in Chernarus so there is no problem with modern American military weapons as long as they are reasonable rare (e.g. only found on helicopter crash sites) and in service during this period (so the classic M16 or M14 are unlikely but a M4 or a M14 based DMR are not).

However the cartridges might pose a problem because the current "7.62x51mm" is in fact the 7.62x54mmR with the wrong name(its used in the Mosin and probably the SVD and features a prominent rim). Now most battle rifles fire 7.62x51mm so they would need to add another rare cartridge or make them fire 7.62x54mmR instead (which could conflict with both game balance and full auto fire).

Right, because the M16 is as unrealistic as a Chauchat.....

Doubt it, you see M16A1s and M16A2s all the times in global conflicts, they're used by all sorts of nations, even Eastern European ones. Plus, Chernarus was invaded and occupied by a USMC force, so even guns like the M16A4 or M14 are plausible, because they're still used to an extent in the USMC (M16A4 as the service rifle, M14s as a limited DMR role)

Melee type combat was not ever an intended feature of the Virtual Reality engine used by ArmA and DayZ. Optimizations will surely come in the future, as a new physics system is working its way in and the general weapon operation is changing.

People like their guns more than they do melee weapons, because guns are long-term weapons whereas melee weapons (besides the fireaxe and hatchet) are usually utilized as temporary weapons or defensive backups. Loot rarity will probably put melee weapons on top later on, but during the testing phase firearms will run rampant.

Besides that, there are already plenty of melee weapons in the game. Sure, we could always use more, but they've added plenty, and they outnumber guns by far. Guns tend to make more of an individual impact than a melee weapon. You could just as easily say; "Do we really need a trench knife or the sledgehammer?"
