Crosshair in 3pp 1 cm too high?

Recommended Posts

It's just me and my setting or something or everyone else noticed that in 3pp bullets hit about 1 cm under the grey dot?

I feel that the gray dot is more so for picking things up etc if you look in proportion to where you gun's barrel is pointed it will always be lower than you dot, just aim for the head of players and chances are you will hit them in the chest.

Exactly^ It is place-holder for now. It shall be removed altogether I assume once picking up items is easier.

And if I aim for chest I'll hit them in the balls...

Anyway this explains why I could not hit anything when aiming at balls and downhill....bullets were hitting ground.

But in fist person perspective the grey dot works almost perfect as crosshair.

Then I'll just use sticker on screen as crosshair, as I do now.

maybe it's intended to be "off" 3rd person already has the see around corners and over walls thing going for it.  Want to get a good, accurate shot go into 1st person kinda thing.

Unfortunately even the first bullet of all guns isn't accurate like it should be and spray pattern is completely random.

CS 1.6 recoil pattern and general gun behaviour is a good model to be followed in DayZ.

But you can just plaster a sticker on screen (like I did) and have your own crosshair that is correct in 3pp.

The crosshair is fixed to the plane of your screen isn't it? Where as your gun move around and so on. I can't recall Arma 2 now but Arma 3 crosshair is shown where the barrel of your gun is pointing in the world which moves around a lot and disappears at times too. It's not actually possible to have a correct 3pp crosshair without it moving around. Even sticking something on your screen would not work correctly.

I do actually prefer firing with the 3rd person cross hair but it's not really there for accurate fire.

The only time i ever even use the gray dot for shooting is in very very close range where i will most likely hit the person no matter where i am aiming

If you haven't realised that the difference with games like the Arma series is that bullets actual come out of the gun and not the players head (like battlefield etc.) so if you're holding your gun on an angle, the dot will only work for a certain range.

Eventually because of the way he holds the gun in hip fire mode the bullet will cross where the dot is anyways so regardless whether you put a sticker on the screen, the same thing will happen. Test it, shoot at a wall around 500m with hip fire and see how centered it is/in line with your sticker on your screen.

Why don't people just ads like you're meant to do with guns, not hip fire at everything you see.

It's actually not hip firing at all. You can be in 3rd person with gun raised at the ready and it still hits below the dot. Also, firing from 500m in 3rd person really... Lets try being practical, test from 50 to 100m (which is the most common place to use 3rd person "hip firing") you will still hit below the dot every time.

You're right in saying that's not hip-fire, but it's not firing properly either. It's inbetween. If you want accurate fire look down your sight instead of playing arcade mode.

I agree and with longer range shots it should always be down the scope in first person. I normally only use it when im up close honestly or just laying down some suppression fire. but the sticker is actually a pretty good idea for those close situations

It's quite a bit more than a cm as you can see in my thread I made on the same subject. There are pics with proof.

Remember in ArmA/DayZ your bullet doesn't spawn from the crosshair, but from the chamber of your firearm.

The UI crosshair isn't some magic marker that shows you exactly where you hit, that's some one dimensional thinking. You player camera's point of view is one thing. Where the bullet is fired from is another. Yet another is that your camera's point of view is a straight line, while the bullet flies in a ballistic arc.

So no, you can't just place the crosshair on your target without thinking.

You always have to consider.

1. Your player camera's position.

2. the chamber of your rifle's position.

3. You rifle's zeroing.

4. The distance to your target.
