"Design: players who disconnect when restrained will die"

I don't like that idea..

I handcuffed my brother when he was drinking from a well and he got stuck like that, couldn't move or anything and the only thing he could do was disconnect.

If you pass out the only way to wake up is to have someone blood bag you, or give you saline bag. Otherwise you have to respawn anyways...

If you pass out, wait in game for a friend, or log off and be killed. Not that big of a deal.

Not a big deal? It is a big deal lol hes punishing people who haven't got all day to play games that can sit and wait for someone to blood bag or saline bag you (this isn't the mod ...getting this loot takes a lot of time) and that's time they may not have and shouldn't need to have as they should be able to leave the game whilst unconscious ...do what they need to do be it look after kids or go to work then continue from where they left off when they have spare time. Whats wrong with that ? They shouldn't be punished and lose all there gear/loot because of something so stupid as not being able to leave and continue.

Its not as if their combat logging or cheating is it ? If they were shot by someone then disconnected then yes they should be forced to respawn . Dean needs to add to this design and make it only affect people who recently received damage from other players. That way it helps to fight combat loggers and doesn't punish innocent people.

Thanks for the update, looks good.  Rocket, one thing that I feel I should say is that the global chat bug doesn't only happen when players are dead.  A friend and I, on different sides of the map, were both able to hear one guy talking over global and he was clearly still alive from the way he was talking and describing his actions.

Good job on the standalone and all of the patches so far.  Really enjoying myself.

I think just adding more items and variations of items will #1 make certain items rarer (the more items in the pool, the lower the chances of finding what your looking for), and will make the game more enjoyable in terms of content available / things to do.

My character currently has nothing to do, as I have a m4 with every attachment, 6x coupled mags, full cammo *top and bottom*, jungle boots, hunter backpack *preferred for color*, and a UK vest *khaki I believe* (all pristine), with plenty of food/water. Now I just explore the map.

If there were more items, I would have more to do/loot.

I have to disagree with this one. I'm new to the game and have probably played 5-6 hours. I've had two separate lives where I spent the entire time rummaging through towns looking for food/water, and died before finding enough sustinance. Obviously we don't want it to be plentiful but if I can spend an entire hour looking and find absolutely no food, then die, then I think things are a little too scarce.

Also, does anyone have any indication as to when we're going to see more zombies added? They're far too scarce at this point.

The loot is fine id say, the amount of loot is pretty much perfect, they just need to make it so loot spawns back in every now and again, rather than at server reset.

But seriously right now its pretty easy to get food/drink.. just head more north into towns that people havent bothered running too, you find plenty of food.. then get a screwdriver/bayonet/can opener and you are set for food.

As for drink, stock up on empty bottles then go find a water pump and fill them up. they last for ages.

I'd say it is kind of cheating, yes.  The whole point of being unconscious is that you're left in a vulnerable state and need help from others.  If Rocket doesn't put this update through, then the whole going unconscious thing fails to serve its purpose.  Why?  Because people will just log off while waiting for their friend to collect the materials to save them and not be in any danger of having zombies or players come upon them and taking advantage of their state.  Will it affect some people that just want to go to bed?  Yeah, and that sucks, but its better than just having people cheese the system and avoid danger.  Is there a better way to go about stopping people from logging while unconscious?  Possibly, I don't know.  If you think of any good alternatives, then post them!  I'm sure Rocket and his team are open to good suggestions.

I am really greatfull that you guys update the game so quickly! BUT I definitely have a big problem with the game.

Your Character is too thirsty. I mean it may be thought off realistic but at the current stage you cant find more then 1-2 Drinks in a town.

But you need to drink like 5 liters an hour.... srsly is this guy a camel or what?!

the harder you run, the more you need to drink. If you crouch run without a weapon in your hand, you can run almost as long as you could in the MOD before really needing to drink (no quite, but ...). You really have to drink 4-5 times more by running full speed with something in your hands.

Adding more loot wont give you more to do...it will just waste time and effort on adding things that don't yet need added. What he needs to keep doing is fixing current bugs/glitches and improving on animations and the engine itself to help fix zombies. After all the this core stuff has been completely fixed ....then and only then is when he should be adding other stuff in otherwise its just gonna end up a big buggy mess.

Get a totally polished base game and then add stuff ...fix the bugs that accompany those stuff and then add more ...theres no point in adding bugs to more bugs and creating a total mess is there ?

For some reason, I keep getting the updates WAY earlier then my friends. It prevents me from playing on any servers. Its not a big problem, but its a tad annoying. However, other then this I haven't encountered any "game breaking" bugs. Great job on the game Dean, I've been enjoying it!

ALPHA. ALPHER! Expect 100's of player wipes over the next year. Its not about punishing combat loggers, its about having a 'congruent unconscious timer'. I (making wild guesses here) think its something like the knock out system needs to be fixed, yet can not be specifically addressed here. The hive would keep track that you were passed out (for whatever reason), and if you log out would not know how to properly 'knock you out' and make you unconscious for some long indefinite period of time when you log back in.  Since now you can now properly take damage while unconscious, the ONLY 'legit' logging from being unconscious would be due to a bug/glitch.  Either way, there is no really valid argument to be all butt-hurt that you are killed and fresh spawned if you log out while unconscious. Besides, as the system is indeed broken, and we are all ALPHER testers, testing the mechanics of the game...

Adding weapons and attachments is a fairly simple process tho. Considering the game is essentially arma2 without all the excess crap. I bet if we had access to the server side, I could take many weapons packs from ArmA2 and include the .pbo's in the DayZ SA addons folder and add them to the loot tables and they would spawn in the game just fine.

The most time consuming portion of adding new items is attachments, and making sure said attachments line up properly on the weapon system its self. Which im sure those who are involved with that process are not involved as much with the types of fixes you are referring to.

PS: you can take the files for the stand alone and put them into a folder in your ArmA3 and launch it as an addon (after removing some files related to UI, etc). This allows you to play cherno+ on arma3 and build missions with it so you can fly around to check out the map and see whats new.

Glad someone else caught this. I had given a blood bag on Tuesday and have been pale screened ever since. By this time I had convinced myself that blood regen was really... really slow. Happy to see Chernarus in all of it's vibrant colors soon...ish. Are there any numbers you can give us on how much blood per second or whatevs you regen if you are full food and water? Half food and water?

There's a great guide on daydb.com for this, here's the link: http://dayzdb.com/guide/1-hunger-and-thirst

You will always have these kind of problems in the game.

Here is a few examples to explain what i mean :

1. My friend is on a server and im on another one i fall unconscious due to thirst...now if my friend joined my server to come help me is that cheating ? your answer to this should also be yes as the same logic you used above still applies but its isn't cheating as im still unconscious and hes still taking the steps needed to fix me up as he would if he was on my server with me to begin with if he wasn't able to switch server to help me then i would die. This would mean unconsciousness  already fails to serve its purpose but its widely accepted as a game limit so there's lean way here

2. If i use a bandage to help my friend after a fight with a zombie because he has no bandages or rags but i got that bandage from another server...is that cheating? the answer should again be yes using your logic but its not as im still taking the steps i would normally have needed to take if i was already on his server to bandage his wound. If i didn't find that bandage on another server and he couldn't find a bandage on his server then he would die. More lean way ?

What im getting at is that this is a game ...simulator or not ..there needs to be lean way with whats added and there needs to be lean way to this design and that lean way is making it only apply to people who recently received damage from another player.

Sorry if i didn't explain it that good as its 3am and im fucked :P

Moron.... your full reply is total garbage hahahahah....its as if you are trying to reply to me with a comment about a different subject :S

The pure fact that you started your reply with "ALPHA. ALPHER! Expect 100's of player wipes over the next year." just shows that you have no clue what i was actually talking about lol as i wasn't complaining about player wipes....go read all my other posts before actually replying to a post misinformed :S

FYI alphas aren't just about testing mechanics of the game its about providing feedback on everything to do with the game and that includes giving unbiased feedback good or bad. You cant just go around saying its alpha its alpha expect bugs every time someone provides their views/feedback otherwise nothing would fucking get sorted or changed. Now iv informed you what alpha actually is i look forward to seeing a proper reply fully relevant to what i was actually talking about.

Yes i fully agree that its fairly simple and not massively time consuming....but they need to add specific loot relevant to the mod ....cant take all that loot from arma3 :) Also remember their team isn't that big so everything they do that requires time and effort should be used to fix the game they already have before infront of them before putting time into making more loot they don't need yet and fixing any bug's/glitches that come along with those.

I don't think he is saying it's cheating. He is saying what stops people from immediately logging when they go unconscious and wait for a buddy to gather the necessary items to revive them thus they have no danger of dying. They would only need to log in as soon as their buddy tells them.

You have plenty of time to know before hand whether you are going to go unconscious or not and log before hand if you have other priorities.
