November Round-up

Recommended Posts

It isn't intentional. He took media silence so he would have more time to work. That isn't a bad thing. Maybe he just needs a PR person.

He doesn't even need to produce a vidblog, it's not time consuming to write a few paragraphs at the end of a week or month. He's dealing with the game day in day out and working with a small team so he's not exactly ill informed on what's going on. If he's that busy perhaps Hicks should take some of the PR slack... he is the producer after all.

''Optimization can be very frustrating, and it's probably not as "fun" as creating something. But certainly optimization is probably less complex than developing code netcode architecture. It's fairly reactive... run app, watch what is happening... optimize the things taking the most time... repeat.''

That sounds very promising!

I don't do clues and I never have, if I post a picture take it at face value. It's a picture of three bullets. There's no game in how we release this, we'll just release it.

It's been a riot watching people freaking out over what I know is absolutely nothing.

I was humouring the conspiracies but I don't believe Hick_206's tweet about bullets being in the Standalone was anything but a tease or joke.

I think Dean is going to pass out from answering all these questions, it's bloody 12.30 in Prague haha

I also love how more information leads to less conversation on the forum...

So we all rode the hype train, and where did it get us? We are all addicted to heroine, in debt, and have more STI's than what we started with. And Standalone still isn't out.

But...

Maybe we can all learn a lesson here and chill out. They are not sitting in a 2 bedroom flat somewhere having a fat Dayz SA party stocking their tents with loot while periodically posting pictures on their twitter to laugh at our reactions.

Progress is being made like they have been telling us, let them do their thing and you'll have your janky alpha in no time.

He only has himself to blame for that.

This is very valuable information. According to Rocket, many game textures are going to be loaded from the harddrive during render instead of at start and then into VRAM or RAM...

Basically, this is what Arma 2 has, and it was what mainly caused lag.

So, for those of us without a SSD - and since we can't use ramdisk for how big the game is - we're probably going to run into some issues.

Remember those who had their harddrives fried because of Arma 2's poor optimatization? LOL!

A good CPU. more than dual-core is probably a waste but CPU speed is most important. An SSD helps because there is a lot of texture loading. SSD for the game, separate one for OS would be my suggestion. More than 2 GB VRAM is probably a waste, game doesn't use it. Same for RAM.

Server wise, it's all about CPU. More CPU more zombies + more lot + more players. Bandwidth not a big issue (full server probably 4 Kbps out and 1 Kbps in). Ram non-issue (expect 400mb to 1gb on server).

Time to invest in an SSD then! I could never go back since getting one, so speedy.

This is from rocket via reddit.

If i'm reading this correctly then the Standalone would have been able to be released on tuesday, assuming this was the last problem before they were ready for alpha release. Only this new bug popped up.

I think everyone learned long ago not to buy hype train tickets for speculated days, tonight's train crash was only because of highly suggestive Dev posts.

Yea, sure! I'm going to spend 200usd on an SSD for the game and 200 usd on an SSD for my operating system, just so I can run this game...

No.

I think it's important that we all bear this in mind as we speculate about a release date.

"The current systems will be utilized by vehicles, such as the attachment + consumption systems" - Dean

This seems very interesting. I like the idea of vehicles being able to have items and other things attached to them like the weapons we have seen. Can't wait until they start working on this part of the SA after they fix all this main function stuff for the initial Alpher release.

That is not what he means. What he is saying is that items literally are vehicles, in terms of code. To the engine, a gun is a vehicle. This allows them to apply states and variables that otherwise they cannot apply to strings, which is how items used to be handled by the engine. Vehicles like cars and trucks will not be in the Alpha release.

Oh hype train, will you ever end?

That's exactly what we have been doing really. With strong emphasis on the entertaining. ;)

I am not hyped. I am hopeful for a feature that may or may not be added. As he said the vehicles are not currently being worked on. I am taking what he has said at face value and if that isn't what he means then I apologize for misunderstanding. I just think it would be a cool addition.

No.

You can get 2x120GB SSD for that $200-$250
