    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

I think they should leave the run speed alone for the moment. Right now the game is still in alpha and we are basically acting as testers. In order for the dev team to get accurate feedback we should be able to move around the map faster so we can experience everything without it taking a whole day to cross the map. As for vehicles i think they should be common for 2 reasons. One is that it would be realistic. I live outside the city in a small town and even here if me and 5 other people in this town were immune to some disease like this i could take any of 1000 cars in town. In the city even more. Thats just the way it is. Another reason is simply restarts. Right now the average server is restarting every 2 hours. Whats the point of adding cars at all if you have to work to get them longer than you have to use them. Even if they were persistant half the time i dont remember what server i was on. There was no war. No bombs were dropped. There was no group of a million car thieves to steal all of the cars. It only makes sense that they would be common. Even gas would be pretty common as u could siphon any car or even the tank below a gas station.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

I doubt many people think cars are just going to be laying around everywhere, thanks for the concern though. There needs to be an option for quickly traveling in this game, always. If there is no possible way to get from Novo to Kamenka in a decent amount of time, then there is no hope. I don't care if vehicles are rare, but there needs to be some way to get places in a timely fashion it would be silly for there not to be. The way to do that, that is in DayZ right now is running... at 20 kph.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

FYI it is possible to do 80km with full gear in one day ;) Although I doubt that this is realistic for our survivors. Anyway, I said it before and I'll say it again. IMO until we get vehicles there should be no changes to this mechanic.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

The run speed is ridiculous, the infinite stamina is ridiculous and the "do not change the run/stamina before vehicles are introduced" is just plain stupid. I don't think most of you get it. Cars are not going to be laying around everywhere for you to just get in and drive. You're going to need to find parts to get the vehicles working and gas. This isn't GTA.

    Improvised Vehicles

I like the concept, but a tiller/cart vehicle seems a bit far fetched. I think the extent of it should be taking a lawnmower engine, making a frame, and basically making a cheap half-ass go-kart until you get something better. Also, would like if instead of making vehicles from scrap, it be more of tons of modifications for existing vehicles. you could change out the tires/rims, add plywood reinforcements to the side, mount machine guns, add chairs in the back, change out suspension, you name it. It will be another way to put your own personal mark into the game, if you wanted to you could make a completely unique vehicle no one else has, or you could keep it looking fresh off the assembly line. 1 more thing you could use to show your playstyle, personality, etc. Would also be great for endgame content. Just imagine scouring Chernaurus for weeks, looking for that machine gun to mount to the back of your rusty old chevy. Then imagine the fun of driving around the map with your clan wrecking complete havoc anywhere you go.

    Improvised Vehicles

It would be cool, but seeing as how just about everyone is dead or infected there would be fucktons of vehicles standing around, and a modern mid-size car would use less fuel, be less noisy and more reliable than all three vehicles over. I'd prefer having a well-working system for customizing vehicles instead of building them from scrap, but I still like the idea
  9. Hey guys, We all bitch about the game, but we also love the hell out of it. We started a New Server, taking out the crappy map content and are adding our own every week! We are calling it Chernarus 1.8.2 Refined. It's not some loot happy map (though we did take out all the trash loot) or billion vehicle spawning server. We have 54 vehicles. Visit our website: http://enigma-dayz.enjin.com There is a lot of info there, and we are constantly adding stuff since we just started up. Server info: 142.54.189.35:2302 Use DayZ Launcher, it's better than DayZCommander, or remote connect while in game with the IP and Port provided. We JUST went Live! Come check us out! I know starting a new server sucks, but after 10-15 log in, the rest will come.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

Since this topic showed up, I'll put in my two cents ^^ I think its pretty obvious that any of this needs to wait for vehicles. Without them there would basically be no way to get across the map. Walking any distance would be a huge chore. So would trying to meet your friends. There would just be no option for getting anywhere at a decent speed, and that really isn't a good idea. However, after vehicles? I love the idea of a weight system. Choosing carefully what you keep and what you leave is an excellent idea. It adds another layer of thought to what gear you're packing, and that's awesome. I particularly loved the idea of your Sprint petering out as you get more and more tired, and the idea of adrenaline bringing it back up.Growing tired as time goes on, needing to take a rest or else suffer the consequences? Great. I love that too Same with wet clothing weighing more than dry. And same with heavily geared players not being able to outrun a zombie. I would like to say though, In experimental right now, Sprinting burns your hunger and thirst bars at a decent rate (it was even higher in the patch before, but that must have been for testing?) And it wears your shoes out faster, though I think they may have overnerfed this, we'll see after a bit. There is also the weapon sway as mentioned. So its not like there are absolutely no consequences to running anymore. Of course, a lot of those posts were rather old, and im a new player, so a fair amount of that stuff must have been added a while back. But its worth mentioning it, for people reading the thread. Oh, I forgot to mention! I also like the idea of a players stamina and strength building over time. If they maintain a healthy state and are running a lot or carrying a lot, they should build muscle! (I also think being ina healthy state should boost you speed overall anyway)

    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

You have a point. But, your talking more about different countries going to war, different races, etc. millions of people in each side. In a scenario like dayz, its a matter of trusting 1 person or a small group. Obviously if you were starving, you might kill for food, that's completely acceptable and understandable. I would kill if I needed to for survival. However, irl, if you have everything you need, 4 working vehicles, a whole house of food, 17 different guns, and ammo for everything, I think that if you saw another person who needed something, you would gladly help them. Also, you cant really blame all of the humans before us for some of the things you listed. Most of the things you listed were caused by 1 person, or 1 small group of people. Just like it theoretically should be in dayz, there will always be a few people who will only kill and such. slavery-don't have a response to this one, other then it was considered normal for 100's of years. now though, it would be considered illegal, immoral, and frowned upon greatly. holocaust-caused by hitler and his fellow leaders nukes-...when has anybody nuked each other? only example I can think of would be atom bombing japan, which actually saved lives because if a land invasion of japan happened, far more Japanese and americans would have been killed. the war would have gone on longer and more would have died. it was more of a scare tactic if anything. bio/chem weapons-caused by crazies over in middle east who want to take over world, usually get shot pretty soon afterward though I see your point, I hope you see mine. Anything needs clarification don't hesitate to ask. thanks.

    Endless running - stamina/fatigue?

I would love to see a weight mechanic added or a stamina mechanic I remember reading that it was planned and haven't heard or read anything about it sense are they waiting till vehicles are added or are they just not going to do it. its actually the one mechanic I'm waiting on I think it would add another challenge to the game making you choose what to carry and with stamina it would make you move slower or at least not so YOLO. I'm sure some will hate it but if the game is to be authentic then it needs to be done. maybe they could add something to make your guy stronger like roids or carrying more weight a lot will give you more strength so you can hence haul more shit. I should not be able to carry all the crap I have on my person now let alone full sprint from one end of the map to the other without stopping except to be nosey and loot towns. this is all just opinion but if anyone has heard anything it would be great to hear some news on this subject. I looked for the topic in the search option and seen no-one posting if I missed it sry but none the less heres another post.

    thoughts/discussion on NPC's

There was a cool mod, don't remember the name because it was so long ago, but you could fly to a southern island when you geared up. It was a castle/military base with trucks and barracks and such with high value loot but protected by "NPC" survivors. They seemed pretty hard. High ground snipers, AR wielding ground dudes. You had to clear the area before you can loot otherwise they would eventually kill you. Added another element to the game which was pretty cool. Basically, they should leave that decision up to whoever want to mod it in. I think the main problem is that people are trying to compare DayZ SA to the Dayz Mod but using features not found in original DayZ mod. DayZ SA will feature the guns, the vehicles, some aspect of building, the loot systems, a map with a nice flow from civilian coastline to military northwest, and hopefully larger servers. Anything else on top will be left up to the community to mod. This is my opinion based on what I have seen and read about so far.

Does anyone dislike the "no military stuff" agrument?

All the "Survivor man" douche bags who don't want military gear really get on my nerves. If you want to farm, or hunt, or play against the environment then go up north into the wilderness with nothing but a hunting rifle and bandages. Don't cry because they're adding in more military gear or weapons, there's enough civilian stuff right now that they can add more military or police gear. I respect that you want to play a certain way, but that doesn't mean this game should be a zombie game with no guns and one or two worth while melee weapons. Even if the game is set years into a zombie apocalypse and we're supposed to be the survivors, why would all of this stuff be just "gone" instead of spawning on us randomly when we first spawn? If we're the only ones left alive then we would have the best gear from the get go (I don't want that mind you, I prefer looking for it). There should be plenty of small arms in the game, from civilian to military, as well as ammo for them. If they want 100 people servers and a map full of zombies then you'll need weapons and ammo. What should be rare are attachments for these weapons (except maybe the hunting scope given its for a hunting rifle) and heavier pieces of military equipment like belt fed machine guns. I honestly welcome any piece of military gear that's added to the game, because I'd rather play as a soldier or a riot cop as opposed to a hermit that lives in the mountains. I'm even all for them adding (a very small amount) of heavy military vehicles like APC's and tanks, but these should be limited to like 3 or 4, globally, at any given time.
  15. So it's pretty accepted by most that we are 'testing' the DayZ alpha. Fair enough. I was just thinking about the zombies, and how their current state and numbers can be described as a 'placeholder' in my opinion. We keep getting told that they are no where near their final state, again, fair enough. What I mean by placeholder is that they are in the game to patch over a huge gaping hole in gameplay; if they weren't in game, even in the pitiful numbers they are there would literally be nothing to do at all other than mindless pvp. Anyways to avoid getting too long winded what I'm saying is that we aren't really testing anything when it comes to the zombies yet, they are just sorta there. So my question is why not add placeholder vehicles to the game? The mod had a system that more or less worked. I assume the eventual system we're going to get will be somewhat different than the mod but I bet the player base would appreciate having another placeholder feature to keep us busy and entertained. Just some random thoughts.

    Testing or Placeholders?

Love the part where you say accepted by most. Most people dont understand the term alpha and get annoyed when you try to explain. Its quite frustrating to deal with it to be honest. Anyway as for your point, i can kinda see where your coming from. If zombies are placeholder why not add vehicles. Honest answer, iv no idea. I mean it doesnt seem like it would cause problems but you never know.

    DayZ Lack of Social Realism

Did I say that the apocalypse would be made of rainbows and kittens? No. It just wouldn't be all "burning the churches and defiling the women" that people on this board make it out to be. Most people wouldn't die from violence. They would instead die from starvation (or, more likely, malnutrition, and the diseases that arise from malnutrition), as well as the reemergence of communicable diseases. People would group up, almost immediately. There would be few-to-no "lone wolves", of the sort we have in Day Z, as they would have no support to draw off of, and would die out first. These groups would be extremely close-knit, and treat outsiders with suspicion. Look up "endemic warfare", as it is the closest source of "realistic PvP" that a real-life situation would be. There wouldn't be any "wars of annihilation": the post-collapse societies wouldn't have the werewithal (resources, desire) or number of warriors to wage such battles. Cattle raids, stealing/burning crops, and slave raids would be far more common. People also have a tendency to actually give a shit about each other when the need arises, apparently. Case in point: In New England, we had a bad hurricane hit a couple years back. A lot of places lost power (including my home town), and several people died. For the space of about a week, we were on our own; the State-level emergency response was still holed up in their bunker. People opened their doors to complete strangers, pulling generators in order to power refrigerators and wells, houses with wood stoves cooked hot meals for the neighborhood, people with tools cleared the downed trees out of the roads, and used personal vehicles to bring injured neighbors to hospitals when the EMT's couldn't get through. We actually had several cases of groups breaking into houses in order to check on the elderly, who had lost power and fallen down in houses with no heat or light.

    Testing or Placeholders?

When they add vehicles that will more than likely go away.
  19. yazar8

    Testing or Placeholders?

Actually let's say they implement cars, this game will eventually get harder one day and when that happens restrictions to the vehicles will come aswell, players will start complaining because they are used to find more vehicles, the community will fireback and the apocalypse at DayZ will be real.
  20. Grundlesmuggler

    Testing or Placeholders?

They are a little bit of both. You have to be understanding to the dev team, they are creating an expansive world from scratch. We are testing the placeholder zombies for them while they are trying to also figure out how many guns/clothes are gonna be in the game. What types of buildings should be added. What color everything should be....the list goes on. Just throwing in vehicles for the heck of it could create more problems than it would solve and lets be honest, people are going to play with or without vehicles. The only thing they would be good for right now is travel time being cut down. With persistence not working properly, the map not really being populated the way it should be, and the limitations on the game state in Alpha they probably think that putting in vehicles would solve the forrest gumpZ issue, but create several new issues/bugs/crashes who knows. That being said I wish they would dedicate people towards making sure a bicycle would not hurt development and put that in for us.
  21. IkaikaKekai

    Testing or Placeholders?

Concerning Vehicles: If they were to import Arma2 vehicles that would just be lazy and take away work from the real system. They'ed also be completely scraped once the new system comes into place. That'd be the Arma 2 Fuel, Parts, Models and behavior that'd just be tossed out after being ported over. With zombies, they're not just using the old models and AI from DayZ mod, they have new models and skeletons in place. The AI and pathfinding can be swapped out with the working versions. I'd also have to say persistence would be an issue as well. It'd take hours if not days of scavenging in the mod to get a vehicle up and running. The same people that demand that they add in the old vehicles will bitch to high heaven when the Skoda they just spent 3 hours hunting down parts and refueling resets on the restart that happens 5 mins after they get it running.
  22. Death By Crowbar

    Testing or Placeholders?

Anyone using an alpha anything is testing it by definition. DayZ is a zombie survival game, not a survival vehicle game. Thus it makes sense to have zombies in some incarnation present and beginning to refine them little by little (navmesh collision update, added variety such as hoppers, respawn changes, etc). As I understand or imagine it must be - for vehicles there's things that are more important or that must come first, such as persistence, engine updates, etc. I'm as excited to fly around on a bicycle as much as the next guy, but it's going to be ready when it's ready. Back in May and also from a roadmap discussed by Dean at Rezzed I thought I heard/saw vehicles slated for Q3, but I've not been keeping up and don't know if that's still on track of behind. My guess is that it's slipped. I always interpret those plans as rough and subject to change depending on a lot of factors.
  23. stinkenheim

    Testing or Placeholders?

We are testing out parts of their programming like the path finding and awareness which will then be used in the new generation of zombies when they are implimented. It's like the engine updates, it'll be done in bits rather than a huge overhaul in one go As for vehicles, they couldn't be implemented until persistence was out in otherwise every four hours you'd lose your vehicle.
