    Guitar Melee weapons.

 Definitely. (But you could also have added that idea to the already started thread in suggestions. The search function is very easy to use and is your friend!) http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/207497-guitar-melee-weapons/?hl=guitar

    Guitar Melee weapons.

I would add musical instruments. Or at least Guitars. Would be a nice Melee weapon and be even more awesome if you could actually play it somehow. For example when it's in your hands you can use it to bash on Zombies but it will get ruined eventually. BUT, you could scroll wheel and get the option to play. You then get in "play position" and use the "NumPad" as the playing keys. So each key is a Chord/Note on the Guitar so you can play songs. It would bring a lot of colour to some communities such as RP and of course I understand some say "Would you play Guitar during a Zombie outbreak?" I say, "Yeah, yeah I would eventually." Nothing wrong when you're sitting with your friends in a safe secluded place away from the dead, pop out the guitar and forget the crap storm around you for an instant while sipping on a hot pee warm beer you found at the pub.

    DayZ 2.0 - The Sequel

Oooh how about a Guitar Hero Version? DayZzTop!! lol
  4. happiness wears many hats..... sounds like you just need to focus and manage your time better (or some at least). i use DayZ as an "escape" from real life, not a substitute for real life. due to being a bit more established and a very understanding wife (really, she knows she has no choice in the matter) i can pretty much play it whenever i want. i work my 45-50 hours a week, and "play" at least that much--not always DayZ though--not always a game...also play guitar/bass, do home recording, and in the fall i live high school football...literally. now that i am talking about it, i think i could use better time management/focus...there is alot of shit to do around the house....fuck...thanks guy, now i'll feel all guilted out if i play tonite :D take care of whats important and everything else will take care of itself....

    Music?

So I think guitars or some sort of acoustic instrument should be implemented. Here are some reasons: -Scary encounters: you see a guy walking in the street with a mask stringing three different cords walking towards you. Pretty scary, especially when he starts running -LETS SING A CAMPFIRE SONG!: Lets say you have a little group, you guys could play the guitar, and.. well.. sing! how fun! -Loneliness sustained: You could be in an abandoned hospital playing the guitar and getting emotional because the world has ended and all. #apocalypse -Don't DO THIS TO ME!: A group of laughable bandits could of kidnapped you and started playing you guitar songs for whatever reason whilst swaying back and forth. Sounds pretty fun don't ya think!? This is how you would use it: You would equip your guitar and click F or your "use" button, then select "play guitar". When you are "playing guitar, a curtain row of keys would be used for stringing, and your mouse or something would be used to "put your fingers" on the handle string part for high/low pitch. Or some other way of using it.. Doesn't really matter..

    Music?

No, just no. How would you even implement encounter based atmosphere music? That would not work and take any kind of surprise away. But the idea of a guitar is good.

Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?

The only time i was killed after communicating with someone was when i was sitting in elektro church, singing "beautiful" by james blunt accompanied by guitar. He came up to me and killed me with his shotgun. Instant karma, i guess.

    Loot on zombies

Indeed.. you should have to search 15+ zombie bodies to find something that is the least amount usefull. For the most part it could be crap like bubble gum or a guitar pick

    Emotions-Possible KOS Deterrent

At that point it would feel more like I'm looking after some Tamagotchi. The game shouldn't give you fake emotions. And if they ever forced me to wiggle around with freshpawns and play guitar by a campfire just so my character didn't automatically commit suicide you can be damn sure I'd uninstall and wait for someone to mod that shit out

    bridge spawn thingie

Happened to me on tuesday, playing on a 40/40 HC server. Must be one hell of an exploit if its not in fact a hack. One guy had a guitar and a song ready to go, plus someone to run his char around pretty sure he was the hacker/exploiter.

    Guitar Melee weapons.

I would love the ability to play the guitar, but its really an awful melee weapon. Its like a hollow, semi large wooden stick. If it IS going to be a melee weapon, it should be low damage and low durability.
  12. Azzerrrr

    Guitar Melee weapons.

I'm not gonna lie I've had my fair share of that feeling when you're done with a sick ass song and you just wanna break something, and with my last bass I literally destroyed it against my wooden wall, but what surprised me was that the guitar put a hole in the wall before the guitar took physical damage, other than scratches of course and then 4 hits after that, the neck snapped. So what you say may be true, but it all depends. ;)
  13. Evil Minion

    Guitar Melee weapons.

Crowbar and Beseball Bat are quite effective melee weapons in real life - their strength in DayZ is seriously underrepresented. A guitar one the other side... is not. It simply lacks the weight (distribution) is clumsy to wield and might even break if hitting the target. However, it might make noises while doing so. I still like it - but it should be failry weak.
  14. Karmaterror

    Guitar Melee weapons.

YES! We need more makeshift weapons. If you were fighting for your life you would grab whatever was to hand to defend yourself. An electric guitar could do a hell of a lot of damage. Ok so it dosent have a nice sharp edge to focus all the swing force, but it has much more weight. Imagine the inertia it would build on a swing, and the blunt force trauma on impact. Made me think of all the stuff you can do to zeds in dead rising 2 ....while some of it wouldn't fit, I think they could use that sort of mentality for dayz....anything can be a weapon...just some break quicker than others. An acoustic guitar could break after 5 or less swings. Maybe im dreaming but the old slamming it onto a zeds head and watching him wrun round disorientated like dead rising would be awesome :)
  15. Chaingunfighter

    Guitar Melee weapons.

I really doubt a guitar is going to do "15% more damage" than a crowbar, or even a baseball bat. They're fairly hollow and usually aren't meant to be smashed up repeatedly. I mean, some guitars can be, but they're not commonplace. Typical acoustic guitars that you may find in Chernarus would be poor melee weapons, but I'm not completely opposed to the idea of having a guitar (no need for 3-4 different variants). A crowbar is absolutely going to hit a lot harder than most guitars, and I'd reckon a baseball bat that was made for hitting hard objects would probably be more efficient, too. But yes, expanding on the melee weapons would be awesome.

I dont understand why there is no AUTO RUN KEY!!!

I stick a guitar pick between the 2 and 3 keys from the bottom so that it hold the W key down.

    Too difficult/frustrating in the beginning?

I climb (currently E6/7 Trad or averaging a 5.13b for the US folks). Its dangerous, difficult, scary, exhausting, painful and a whole lot of fun. The barrier to entry is high and its not for everyone, and more importantly "shouldn't be." My regular buddies generally aren't interested, some of them expressed an interest and i took them to a few easier local pitches (a few VS crack climbs or 5.6ish in YDS) They hated it, couldn't understand putting yourself through the pain, trusting your life to "little bits of aluminium" and overcoming the fear of your ass hanging in the breeze, and the physical exertion involved in simply clinging on for dear life :) In essence they don't have the prerequisite discipline to gain any real enjoyment from it. Some things are NOT for everyone, and that's not being elitist, its simply stating a fact. I suck entirely at playing the Guitar, its hard, i get fed up with lack of progress and just don't "get it." I don't however complain that it should be made easier on my or others behalf. That's just life. I get to see views few other people ever see, simply because the barrier to the reward is HIGH, and i imagine that people who can wail on a guitar experience similar rewards that i will likely never achieve. Difficulty to me is a positive, the rewards for enduring are greater. In terms of climbing, i could crank up a pitch, place gear and attach ladders to allow my regular buddies to experience the same mind-blowing visages, but i know that they wouldn't appreciate them as much as i would, having not put the work in and not faced the same terrifying risk of failure (you don't EVER trust your gear placements, you trust yourself, if you let go there's no guarantee that the rock will hold or that that cam or nut will not fail) the risks make the reward. The same is true of DayZ, sure the cost of entry is initially high, but the rewards for success are amplified by those risks, when it goes right, it feels feels amazing, when it goes wrong you suffer. And that, as in many walks of life is exactly as it should be ;) Don't misunderstand, this is not a "Haha yuo are teh sux" post, im simply suggesting that things should be difficult in order to grant a sense of achievement, as with many things in life. If you cannot overcome those difficulties, either change up and improve or find something else suited more to your tastes. But asking for things to be made easier, i take a dim view on it...

    Guitars,Smoking,Drinking

YES PLEASE, go play a game like LotRO were you can sit around smoking your pipe and get ingame instruments and either play them by hand with the corresponding keys or use abc files to play pretty much anything. I would love to sit round a fire in this playing a guitar with friends.

  22. This thread contains my hopes for what DayZ will eventually become by release. This is not a thread complaining and ranting about things I want now, it is a thread about what I hope the game becomes by the time it is fully released. I do not expect anything that I talk about in this thread to be added in immediately, or during the alpha, or during the beta. This is a thread about what I want the game to become, not about what I want the next update to make the game into- This is about my long-term dreams for the title. By release, I hope DayZ will be the most harsh survival game on the market. I want this game to become a game where you are constantly worrying about things, and where getting to the point where your stomach is full and you have bullets to spare should be incredibly difficult and should not last for long. This thread will be in sections. Food, Water, Starvation, and Sickness Food should be something you are CONSTANTLY looking for, but to balance this out the time you can survive without food after spawning in needs to be increased. It takes around 30 - 40 in game minutes to basically die of starvation, and that is ridiculous. In real life, you can survive weeks without food, depending on what you are doing. If you are moving, you will not last as long, if you are resting, you will last longer. If you are hydrated, you will last longer, if you aren't you will die a lot quicker. Plus, starvation should make your character malnourished. It should weaken your character, instead of immediately killing it. What I am proposing is that food is a rare commodity and is one of your main concerns but it should not be a short-fused stick of dynamite, but a stick of dynamite with a fuse a mile long, and as the fuse gets shorter and shorter, your character gets weaker and weaker. How do you make it so everyone doesn't slowly starve to death and rage about it here on the forums? We now have hunting, in Experimental. You make it so that the best way to get food is to hunt or forage. Canned goods should be rare- Maybe one or two cans a town, three or so in a city. Finding berries, setting up traps, and hunting big game should be a good, effective alternative to hoping for a can of beans in the town ahead. Basically, hunting should be essential due to a decrease of food that can be scavenged. Water should be easier to find, but should be tedious to purify. You'll either have to boil it, or perhaps find some purification pills. If you don't use one of these methods, you should have a chance to get sick. Plenty of diseases can be implemented into the game that spread through water, and plenty of them should be added, so its hard to diagnose what you have caught and thus harder to cure. Since being hydrated will be essential to surviving starvation, players will have to make sure they have a safe, clean source of water so that they don't succumb to starvation faster then usual due to being dehydrated. Sickness should be devastating if not treated. Antibiotics and medicine from hospitals should be a godsend, just like most things should be in game. Rest, water, and food should help against sickness, but medicine should be the top dog when it comes to curing ailments. Plus, with a lot of diseases, you can have a lot of medicines, meaning self diagnosis can be deadly if it isn't done correctly. Guns, Ammunition, and Weaponry By the time DayZ is released, I hope that bullets are like solid blocks of gold. Ammunition should be one of the most rarest things in game, right next to food. The 75 drum mag for the AKM Should be a total joke. It'll be there, but it should never spawn full, and filling the thing up should take a lot of work, and a lot of luck. Magazines should always be less then half full when they spawn, but to balance this empty magazines should spawn in rifles and pistols that utilize them. Ammo should be rare, though, and most of the time you won't have a magazine on standy. You'll have to make your bullets count, as you will have very little. Since ammo will be so rare it will be like finding a $100 bill in a Walmart parking lot, dispersion needs to be removed. Sway and keeping the gun steady should be the way to portray inaccuracy, and should be able to be controlled. Without dispersion, people will be able to use their shots wisely, without a dice roll. Plus, dispersion is generally unrealistic, and is a crutch for 'balance' in a lot of FPS games, but this is supposed to be an authentic survival game, not a balanced FPS title. The lack of ammunition will increase player interactions, as why waste a bullet if you think you can mug this guy just by having your gun pointed at him, which will make the game a lot more unique and fun to play, as there will be less spray fire at everyone, as you won't be able to afford it. Ammo needs to be as valuable as gold. Now, the guns can be common, as long as they spawn empty and there is a huge variety of them by release. We need more ammo types, too, so finding the bullets for your rifle or pistol or the shells for your shotgun is a lot more difficult. Finding ammunition should be hard, let alone finding a specific type! Also, kinetic knockdown I will hope makes it in game. By this I mean players being knocked down when shot - Not knocked unconcious, just knocked down. Even if the bullet doesn't make it past your kevlar or plating, you should still be knocked down, and stunned. In real life, when a bullet hits you, especially in your legs or torso, you are probably going to fall down, or be knocked back, even if you are wearing protection. Melee I hope will be smoother and more responsive. It should also be a bit more in depth, and have a knockdown / stun system against zombies and players. Zombies With the navmesh on the way, the future for zeds look bright. Now all that is needed are hordes, lots of hordes. I don't know what else I can put in that I hope makes it to release, other then hordes, a competent and in depth stealth system, and better hit registration. Base Building I hope base building requires lots of resources, and is mostly focused on barricading and making small camps or crude walls. If inspiration is taken from Zomboid, I'll be a very happy camper. The Map, Atmosphere, and Little Things Chernarus isn't scary. It just isn't scary. Its a bright countryside full of buildings with a few blood stains and some car wrecks, that is about it. The atmosphere is there, but it doesn't look or seem apocalyptic. There isn't much destruction, and the game doesn't feel desolate. The cities look empty, not abandoned, as if everyone just disappeared. The abandoned cars are nice, but, there is not that many small details, and the blood stains they have added to certain buildings and overturned stuff just doesn't do it for me. Some of the newer buildings they are working on are more fitting, but Chernarus needs its cherry summer countryside aspect taken away. It feels like I'm on vacation in rural Europe. I hope for a more desolate, apocalyptic map, basically. I hope for atmosphere, too. There is atmosphere in DayZ, and I especially feel it when I'm sitting around the new campfires or walking near a place lit by a roadflare, or when you are walking through the woods or a town as night falls, but other then that, the map is a quiet, peaceful countryside full of armed people, a few zombies, and a lot of bullets whizzing through the air. I also want hope we get a few little things specifically for the game's atmosphere. Instruments such as guitars would be just plain awesome. Sitting around a campfire in a barricaded complex with your thin, malnourished buddies and playing some tunes on a guitar would be spectacular. It may be something little, and I don't want it now, I just want it by release. It shouldn't be a priority, it should be a nice, final touch when they have nothing else to do. Board games too, another low priority thing I hope we get. Challenge your opponents to a game of chess or gamble bullets and food at a game of poker. You could add a ton of stuff for players to do once they make bases or colonies around the map, and since ammunition will be rare, the chances of one guy coming in and killing everyone would be slim. There could be organized raids, of course, but both the community trying to survive in the place they call home and those there to take it from them will be in a war where every shot have to count. Of course, these are little things I don't want to be prioritized. They are just little touches I hope to see. People will need things to do in the apocalypse, once they've settled down. They'll be always worrying about supplies and passerby and zombies and disease, but whats a better way to kill stress then some campfire songs or a game of chess? Conclusion I will repeat this once again, this is what I hope makes it into the game by release. I want a harsh, unforgiving survival game where you never stop worrying about things. Oh, also, on a side note - Cannibalism, with some sort of negative effect - would be great as it would cause players to hunt others not only for supplies. Thank you for reading, and there is no TL;DR. I wrote this at 1:30 AM, go me.

    Some RP items and 'minigames'

In a real zombie apocalypse after the dust settled and only the immune were left the biggest problem they would face after food, water & shelter would be loneliness, depression and (worse of all) mind crushing boredom. Now i'm not suggesting Dayz tries to replicate this by making the game mind crushingly boring but i do think it should offer players other things to do than kill each other, or find the tools to kill each other, or repair the vehicles used to run away/too people trying to kill each other, or build the bases to stop people killing each other. I'm suggesting things that have no survival functionality other than too make surviving worth it. I'm talking about trying to put a little fun and comfort back into a life in the zombie apocalypse: For instance: Chess Board Pack of cards Guitar Harmonica Tea Bags Instant Coffee Cigarettes Pipe Vodka (The books are a great start) I won't bore you with the details of how i think they should be implemented as the devs could likely do it better and you can probably imagine how they might work. Playing cards would probably be the hardest to implement but it would just be so great to be able to pass the night round a fire playing a few rounds of poker while passing round the vodka bottle. If you've played Stalker and seen the groups of survivors chatting around barrel fires then you know what i mean, the RP potential of these items is huge. I guess none of this would be implemented before Beta stage but it would greatly enrich the final game IMHO.
