Yeah I can see private shards being worth while for large communitys ect but for smaller ones its not much use really. Unless ofc you are using it to build a community or play as a group in a certain way. Must be more of that around than I thought. I like the way it is at present, thats life you dont always like everyone or get along ect and theres different types of players/people to encounter. Thats been the big attraction of the game for me personally. This way of doing it seems to me like it will just split the community up completely. Half the community will play on private shards doing role play or just farming for loot that they can only use in that server ? The way it worked in WarZ was how I said, you could rent a private server with a password, get looted up in your own group then go PVP together ect. Whats the point in say a clan renting a private shard, with no password no one would join cos the loot will be all gone and theres a clan in there waiting to kill you, other clans cant even join to fight you as they cant bring their own stuff they need to gear up on your server 1st which is going to be impossible cos the clan who own the server have looted it already ? I see the ghosting thing then being an issue but thats easily worked around surley, in WarZ if you log out in the middle of a city/town for example then switch server it spanws you back in on the outskirts of the said city/town. And also maybe an exit timer so you cant just combat log or your character will be stood there for 30 seconds, you have to log out safely... Just seems that option has not even been thought of and would of been nice, people who play for PVP mainly will just play the way we have been on this game all along now as private shards are useless to them...

I'll try On the Public hive all characters are connected to one database (well, two actually, 1st person only and 3rd person enabled servers). Though things like tents, vehicles and bases will only save on one server and not cross over. The greater choice of servers means that if your server goes down or is just having a bad day you can easily swap to another server and not have to start as a fresh spawn, It also makes it easy for friends from different parts of the world to find a low ping server that they can all play on. On a Private shard your character will only save on that one server, this is good in that it prevents issues like server hopping and ghosting. There will eventually be a global loot system that will monitor loot across all the servers and limit which kind of loot spawns accordingly, allowing them to make certain items extremely rare, such as high powered weapons, nvg's, helicopter parts, and medicine. I think this will be a really interesting mechanic on the Public hive, promoting high value trading between strangers and large scale rivalries between groups on different servers. Not even sure if Private hives will have the same system and even if they do it will be severely smaller in scale just due to it being limited to one server. Server admins have very little power when running a Public server, this is to prevent abuse such as locking a server and farming for gear then going over to another server on the hive. Basically they can only kick players and only with good reason, and because they have no access to logs it is very difficult for them to prove when someone is cheating, eventually the Devs will be releasing anticheat software that will help, but could be a while off. Private server admins can kick, ban and lock as much as their heart desires as it only affects the players on that server, also they can set rules for their server such as no pvp, roleplay only, etc. initially they wont have access to logs or the ability to add mods either but that will change when the overall security of the game has improved. My personal opinion is that Private shards are great for people who want to be part of a close community and do provide better protection from cheaters, But in my experience from the mod they tend to get stale after a short while, due to seeing the same names everytime you log on. The Public hive has a much greater sense of scale making it more unpredictable and for me, far more immersive, and if you play on official servers run by Bohemia you can completely avoid the chance of admin abuse. I'll be more interested in Private shards when modding is allowed, though history tells me that the majority of modded servers will just break the whole concept of the game, there should be a few that shine through.

No need for disappearing houses. They just need to add a substantial skill gate to get through locks. My wishlist: Walls should be invulnerable.Door locks should take between a minute and a an hour to open, depending on shard settings and items used.Breaking/picking locks should also make a variable amount of noise. Lockpicks being quieter and taking more time to use. Crowbars being louder and faster.Optional: Flag houses with locks on them so they stop spawning loot and to prevent ghosting.Optional: Increase zombie respawn in areas where locks are being broken. By increasing the zombie spawn rate around a lock being opened social interaction might be needed to break through locks.

Ham sandwich I'm sorry but this game cannot cater to people who only play an hour a week .. If you don't want your base to be raided choose a low pop server , eventually I'm sure the ghosting problem will be solved by having it so people can't spawn into barricaded or player built structures they would instead spawn directly outside of it ... Not too bad of an answer sure it breaks realism a little bit but it's much better than people losing all of their hard earned work to someone that has more interest in playing !

Sadly all those ideas are deadly for the gameplay experience and should absolutely not be in game. Especially the first and last ones propagate extremely unauthentic and static gameplay and screw over any kind of dynamics and the perma-death feature. Owenership should only be measured the same way it is in real life: by cultural aspects. Now cultural aspects should not be hardcoded - otherwise they cease to be cultural and start being a magical function that screws over the players and emphasizes rules-lawyer gameplay. Now an AI might work in some ways: Having a companion animal watching your stuff for example. Human AI would not work properly and most likely contradict the game aspect of (non-zombie) humans always having the same capacities as other (non-zombie) humans. Also note that "your animal companion" is not an ownership relation but rather a consequence from the animal AI. If you neglect your dog I would totally like it if someone could "steal" its affection. So how to make barricading useful? First by cooperation - more people sharing one base means a higher probability of someone guarding it. Then by making barricades sufficiently advanced they would end up as an "end game feature" requiring another "end game feature" to get past. So they still work against anyone not in possession of the right tools. And in the end making those tools harder to get and to use than in reality might compensate for offline hours. It should always be possible to raid barricades - but the effort and risk involved should roughly match the effort and risk of building them. Also ghosting should be prevented by adding a "safe zone" on a zone sufficiently barricaded (like a house with all entrances locked) - to log in inside a safe zone you would need to log out there first leaving some signature (not ownership either as everyone inside should be able to do it). Everyone else gets moved outside when attempting to spawn there.

- Completly edit that server hop timer. ( If you quit server, for example you got stuck in place, and then join SAME server back, there should not be timer. When you quit server, and join anthoner one and then go back to first server time should be drastically increased like 150 seconds, thats the way to stop ghosting. If you quit server just in time after your character spawned or 5 seconds after that, you should be able to join to anthoner server without timer ) - Ability to dig worms out of dirt with bare hands.( Farming hoes should be used to plant and maintain plants, even a 7 years old kid can dig up with hands ) - Ability to roll up sleeves on certain clothing ( Shirts, Tactical Jackets, TTKSO Jacket, Gorka jacket ) I know, this isnt primary objective, but it should be cool and badass looking. - Ability to combine vitamins and matches. ( Just like rags system work ) - Ability to search cupboards and fridges in apartment buildings and houses. This would add a lot of lag on server and all, if you are thinking to make cupboard searching system like opening door and checking inventory of victinity for items. No, to decrease lag, you guys should make an animation about searching ( like 3 seconds ) and when it finishes it should open a window and you can take everything that you want. ( Video : )- Ability to use both handmade and crossbow arrows and shoot them. - Add animation to deploy bipod while on ground. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMOLsm3Qxpc#t=22 ) This would work on prone or when crouched near low object. - While in first person, add some advantage and some bad sides when using sunglasses. For example, in daylight, make sun look not so bright. In night, it adds more darker screen and players will have to remove them to see. - Add black tourist mountain backpack, or something else. Its really frustating to carry green backpack when you are full black. - Make gloves help you handle gun a BIT more easier. - Just like heli crashes, add random camp places where you can find already deployed tents and campfires. - Add more customization for character. Instead of skins, add skin colors, hair, beard, eye color, running animation ( everyone shall run with same speed ) and etc. - Add jerry can where you can put water or gas ( if you guys gonna add cars ). They should take like 3 ( height )x4 inventory slots, but they would add huge amount of water resource. - Make us able to actually get sick of drinking water from lakes and etc, so players will struggle to find purify tablets. - Add some new map constructions like caves, rivers, big dams, mountains or further expand map. - Add better textures for paper pages. There should be no Note sign and lines and all that. Just a peice of yellow paper. If it is ripped off from a book, if you click inspect and rotate page there should be some unzoomed words and texts. - Make fireplaces have limited fire time, so make players struggle to find some fuel for fire like sticks, logs, paper and etc. - Add diffrent textures for meat. I dont want them to be so diffrent, just like texture of meat, should not be texture meat for every animal, I think we should add 3 textures of meat and they come from same animal and they get combined like ( 2 meat peices from texture 1, 1 peice of texture 3 and etc. ) EDITED ( MORE SUGGESTIONS ADDED ) - LIST IS GOING TO BE UPDATED FREQUENTLY : ( 10/12/2014 ) - Add more effects in game. I mean, we should get a raindrops on our screen when its raining. If we get snow in updates ( AWESOMELY LOOKING FOWARD! ), we should see a bit of frozen parts of screen in corners if our character is getting cold. Battlefield 4s effect are really good looking! Sunrays, that dusty bubbles on screen ( If you played SC Blacklist you probably know what I mean ), water reflections etc. - I dont know does Arma 2 engine allow us this, but, I think we should be able to shoot through thin surfaces ( doors, windows ( probably biggest pain in ass while outside barracks ), wooden walls, etc. - Make night effects more realistic. We should somehow stop using gamma and brightness to fix our problems and give us advantage. I think we should not be able to change those settings if playing on night server. - Pain in ass probably, but I am strictly against clan servers. People from there gather up their shit, go around trolling and then come fully geared and kill bambies and other people.... I think we should disable them. - To help developers, we should be able to translate DayZ in other languages. I think I got few comrades ready to translate in Russian. ( Not me! :D )

Indeed it is. Having no spawn in noise only seems to benefit players trying to exploit it for ghosting or camping purposes. Maybe the weapon reloading sound is not the right sound, but surely some kind of distinct noise within say a 100ft radius would be appropriate? It doesn't have be loud, not asking for a klaxon or anything, (WARNING WARNING, PLAYER SPAWNING) maybe a subtle noise that could be missed if you're not concentrating enough, but something would be good. I don't think a map wide noise is needed, but the loss of any noise has already changed the game in the wrong direction for me. I'm aware of the delay from spawning in to actually being in control of your character, so any noise should occur when you actually get control to avoid any 'ringing the diner bell' criticism. Far from encouraging player interaction, the lack of spawning noise seems to be encouraging campers and ghosting. Fine if all you want to do is kos, less fine if you want a little more from the game. Been killed twice now after clearing a building only to have someone magically and silently appear inside. As if there's not enough to be paranoid about, now we have to worry about murderous geared wizards with ak's too. Hardly a positive feature of a zombie apocalypse survival game...

I fell victom to it. Its is a more common practice in the game, then many would like. It makes it vary hard to hold ground for more for more then a few minutes on a packed server. I think if there is going to be baricades added....base building and the like. This ghosting issue needs to be addressed first. With it in game now it changes the dynamics of what most military minded people would consider tactical. I have learned to adapt for the time being, and just know people will do that and simply not stay in one area for too long...until it is fixed or if it gets fixed. Just last night I was running with a group....then logged out left my TS on and still was talking to people. They saw several glitching hackers and were forced to log off there servers. Thats another thing I learned to adapt too...If I hear an unreasonable amount of gun fire...like more then someone can carry. Or a map glitcher....I log off ASAP. But I think they are rare...but not rare enough. These issues are in the game, and have been there since I been playing the SA. I learned to adapt to it, and strangly it has become just something I have to deal with while playing. In regards to a guide, I think it needs to be something people should be really aware of. You can't counter it, but with knowlege you can avoid it and cut down on your chances falling victim of it. Regardless DayZ is still a really interesting fun game, and its alpha. I love it sometimes. Sometimes So I have to keep reminding my self...this isn't finished and it will be really cool when it is.

Using multiple servers to navigate your way around high population areas is known as ghosting and is considered an exploit, not a legitimate tactic. It's the main reason that I always preferred private hives in the mod TBH.
-
In real life yes but in DayZ not so much. There's too many bambis running around whacking you with the first thing they find or snipers camping hills shooting anything that moves along with the clan ghosting. Really the only tactics you need to know in DayZ is in order to be kosed you must be seen. stay in the shadows, move slowly and carefully, that can of beans isn't worth everything you just ran around searching for. Obviously I know clans need to coordinate and be able to move and whatnot without being idiots but, it seems like most clans have at least one person with some sort of military experience who helps with that sort of stuff.

No no, you guys don't get the concept, i'm saying once you log off the SPECIFIC server as soon as you try to connect it would say something like "Confirmation of changes: you have 29min 50sec before you can rejoin this server", obviously if you need 30 minutes to loot then I don't know what your doing but you get the concept (You would be able to play other servers in the mean time just not that one SPECIFIC server). And no he didn't get the drop on me and my two friends. I'm going to say EXACTLY what happened so you guys know. My friend was at the bottom of the tower looting and suddenly a guy with an AK spawned right next to him under the stairs he miraculously took the guy out. We all took a deep breath and said good job man. I went back upstairs to loot a bit more after checking the enemy's body, we didn't loot it just yet. My friend was applying morphine as another guy with an AK spawned under the stairs and shot him dead. I ran to the very top of the tower and hid there waiting for him to come up the ladder. My other friend had just reached the tower and was waiting outside (The only other exit) and I suddenly saw the enemy outside, I shot him with my makarov and hit him atleast three times so I said "He's lit wait out there and see if he moves" I then heard someone moving up the ladder and by the time my friend could check he was already up. So we knew he was in the tower so after 5 minutes we heard his inaudible talking so I didn't respond. I then proceeded to clear the top floor while my friend cleared the bottom and we met in the middle. He wasn't there and obviously combat logged. So we proceeded to loot but my leg was broken because I climbed down the ladder so that's why it took so long for us by the way. So whilst I was waiting for my friend to make a splint I was looting a bit and I got shot in the back. My friend searched ALL of balota and around it and didn't see anyone. He went to go grab some essential stuff and not 30 seconds into looting a guy spawned under the stairs and sprayed him down. So now you all know exactly what happened and how this suggestion could really benefit DayZ and stop people "Ghosting".
-
the community does. There is a reason why people flooded to private hives in the mod. Private hives simply do not suffer from the horrible issues that public hives bring forth due to character sharing. - Less combat logging - Zero ghosting
-
This. it eliminates so many problems too, the worst being server hopping and ghosting. Thank you for that quote boneboys, hopefully we get some news on private shards for next weeks post. This is all that im looking forward to, vehicles and new guns arent very exciting when there is no communities to enjoy them with.

The term is ghosting, the countdown timer is enough already I believe at this stage of development.

DayZ Epoch Chernarus (Roleplay Server) ~AdminEvents~ Started by Blades
Unknown_User posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Welcome To Blades DayZ Epoch Chernarus (Roleplay Server) Server: 71.203.232.52:2302 OR Blades DayZ (Search in filter) ~We would love to hear feedback and recommendations //Features Our main focus was to make this feel like a real zombie apocalypse. We have added many scripts and map addons to our server such as, Self Bloodbag, Auto Refuel, Mission System, Roaming AI , custom Epoch traders, snap building, indestructible bases, more vehicles, tow and heli lifting script, taming dogs, gender selection, service station, more locations(camps/cities) and a lot of cool other server functions. (Custom loadout system, anti backpack theft, safezoneTrader, ETC (TOO MANY TO LIST)) Mostly, every day we do an event, ran by admins. (we sometimes take players to 'quarintine zone' or a camp, and we will try not to let people die) WE DO NOT USE BATTLE EYE, We use a better anti hack for Epoch. (battle eye is too glitchy with the scripts we added) //Admin Events Admin Events happen mostly every day, the events will be put in global chat (by admin) and there will be a meetup point. If you are there to kill us- you will be kicked, then banned. The events end with player getting loot, you most likely will not die in the events, and the events are all roleplay based. //Rules No cheating with scripts or mods No KOS (kill on sight). you can kill once you made contact, you may not kill the victim if they are complying to a robbery. New Life Rule(NLR). Once you die, you may not remember where your body was and you cannot tell your friends on teamspeak or anything like that about your killers location and their intentions. Roleplay. Don't change your back story after you already told someone. But always try to stay in character. No combat logging or ghosting If you have any trouble connecting to the server use the ArmA 2 in game server list, or if you need the IP to connect, I will add on to the post. The Server is still in development Hope to see everyone on! Bye-Bye! // If this is in the wrong section, please tell me I will move it :) :beans: -
Wow, nice footage of that ghosting muthaf'er... right thru the wall and robbed you... some people are so pathetic they have to resort to hacks. And, that is one chaotic teamspeak you have going on there lol, people running all over shooting eachother, good stuff lol.
-
combat logging and ghosting makes baby jesus cry
-
And if you are a sniper up there, beware of people ghosting up to get you. They always log if you miss and magically appear up in the hallway one floor below the roof. I mean, so I've heard. From a friend.
-
How is this an opinion? Did they or did they not implement spawn timers when leaving and joining a server due to combat logging and ghosting?
-
That my friend, is your opinion and like ass holes, everyone has one. With that said, just because you think there's no right or wrong way to play DayZ doesn't make it fact. What is fact though is there was a log in and a log out timer implemented due to combat logging and ghosting, therefore ghosting or in this particular case, combat logging is wrong.
-
So...you essentially admit to Ghosting? That is, log out when shot at, move to a better position, then attack and kill the now-essentially-clueless enemy? And you think this is a good and admirable way to play?! Shit, kids these days. Not an ounce of "honor" among them. At least live up to your death, make it worthy of song. Make them fight and bleed for your loot, not cheat at the game and talk trash on the Internet.
-
This single suggestion would be fantastic but unfortunately several things must happen before it could become feasible. 1. Base building needs to be added . 2. Barricading needs to be added. 3. No hive spawn system one character per server. With these two things being added then it would not only make sense it would improve the gameplay ten fold. While you may not see the benefits to gameplay immediately a sleep system in the game would have the same positive effects that it did in Rust. 1. People will not kill on sight nearly as much as they do in dayz due to having a static location where they must rest. 2. Alliances will form due to the increased versatility and safety in numbers, groups will watch each others backs when they are sleeping and not in game. 3. Combat logging immediately disappears. 4. No ghosting or server hopping is possible. 5. No silly popping into existence. If the game truly wishes to be a good survival game it needs sleeping when you log off and your character needs to stay sleeping in game when you are not logged in. Yea but ask yourself what is more realistic ? Not sleeping in game and having your character magically materialize out of thin air allowing for far greater exploits or your character sleeping in game trying to hide from not only the environment but other players ?

I've been ghosted by people well away from any sort of high-profile locations. One time I was running along the eastern railway tracks and some dude spawned in 50 feet in front of me. Besides, you make it sound like these guys are ninjas who only give their presence away by giving you the dread black screen of death. You hear footsteps, doors opening, etc. Even if the dude literally spawns in 3 feet behind you, he still has to notice you, get his weapon out, aim and shoot. If you didn't notice him in that time, you deserved to die. Be aware of your surroundings, all the time, ESPECIALLY in the places you describe. You know people are always ghosting and server hopping in those places, so take precautions. Close doors behind you, watch the corners, and listen carefully. At firsts, ghosts busted me, now I bust ghosts without mercy. You spawn in right next to me, you're eating a bullet sandwich. It's the only situation in which I KOS.
-
Nah, it would just reduce the meaning of death even further if applied to respawns and cause reinforcements to appear way too soon when applied to spawns. For respawns I think going exactly the opposite way (bad spawns for everyone) is a better solution as it makes death having some impact without keeping you away from the game for too long. Though there was an interesting idea about a "cure zombie" feature that might allow for a friend to respawn next to you. For spawns I really think you should just keep spawning where you logged out with some special interactions when players are nearby (to avoid ghosting/combat logging and the likes). Everything else might disrupt the gameplay by too much (people suddenly popping up near other people should be kept at the absolute minimum).

Most game breaking bug... Please fix asap
Chaingunfighter replied to supafly's topic in General Discussion
It's not really combat logging if your character is rendered completely incapable of doing anything and you log out to fix it. Plus, you're still logging back into the same location, not ghosting, so the other people have nothing to stand by (And really, who gives a shit anyway?)
