I like your ideas, OP, I hope they all get read and implemented. I'm no hunter in RL but I love the outdoorsman style in Dayz. You made me hit the woods again, so far I've been focused on all things related to vehicles. Time to cross the Northern highway and go inland... You talk a lot about tracking and hunting, what about resources you get from animals? How would you see it progress with the lard, pelts, bones, etc.? I wonder how many more applications they have, I like the idea of being completely on your own and never having to rely on anything looted from towns. I hope the devs think more about food and cooking, so that a devoted hunter is so much better nourished than a guy who grabs an occasional can and immediately runs to the NWAF. And yes, I'm one of the players who might as well think to themselves "aww, sorry, baby elk, but I need to live", despite knowing it's it's just a game (probably this means I'm insane, but I like to pretend it's for reals when I play). It's quite obvious what you said and I hardly believe the topic got derailed so fast and for such a reason. I guess some people just really want to say something on the Internet.

Yes. Items, particularly persistent items relating to vehicles, have a sharp effect on localized performance. Try parking four vehicles right next to each other, and then attempt to speed past them all in a Lada. The results will be terrifying. Add a couple dozen wheels to the area, and compare.

@Yazar8 Yes, I saw that. It's on this very page. That's why I commented. I saw elsewhere in the forums someone saying it was 4 each for the new vehicles. I imagine both of these are estimates. I was wondering if anyone has looked into the game files or something and confirmed it? (I probably should have made that clearer) EDIT: Just realised that Pilgrim's source* is WOBO. That's confirmation enough for me. :P *woops. Fixed. haha -

Has anyone confirmed how many of each type of vehicle spawns? I have heard different numbers from different people. Also I have noticed that the new vehicles (offroad,sedan,bus) all have static spawns at the moment. And when they despawn they return to their original static spawn. Can't confirm that though as I only experienced it once. A offroad respawned to the spawn I originally picked it up from after it got stuck on a small concrete block on the corner of a road. -

I might be willing to give you an escort to the coast. And if you prove trustworthy and reliable in securing the usage of new vehicles, I would then be willing to give you occasional rides places. Can't really get behind giving a man a fish... My steam name is same as forum name.

It was only a topic for that failed hotfix that basically made everything worse ^^ There was no real difference between it and the current stable, imho (except the stable works better). So perhaps there will be another hotfix soon, because we all know 0.59 needs it (cars you can't drive, magazines that disappear, stairs that kill you...) I expect we'll see at least two more hotfixes, before another experimental arrives. There are quite a few issues that have been adressed in the thread, and I wouldn't say adding the bike and enduro actually warrants a 0.60 update. I'd also appreciate it if weather was brought back and the animal population upscaled. I'm guessing in 0.60 we'll see updated renderer/particles, infected AI + custom infected, weather + health updates and possibly the first iteration of the new character controller (why is that taking so long, btw. Human IK is not that difficult to implement, unless they come out with a new UI aswell). So don't start saying your goodbyes to 0.59 too soon ;) I wouldn't expect the arrival of 0.60 anywhere before Mid/End-February and the team should concentrate on getting some of the serious problems with vehicles fixed, before taking giant leaps ahead. Sometimes I fear they'll just leave everything broken anyway, so they can meet their beta-release date. If so, it's probably not their fault, but a matter of having to deliver the product. The problem with that is: if the Beta is flawed they will achieve the opposite effect of not selling more copies. I hope they are aware of that and do the fixes, pronto.

Standard camo netting..; it is a normal military item - can cover vehicles, barrels, tents, or make a hide with a tripod or a couple of sticks. This can spawn in-game or can be crafted from fishing net - both in fact. Reduces visibility greatly. Cut smaller pieces from the military camo netting it to craft your ghillie stuff, or join together several pieces of fishing net to craft one large vehicle/tent size camo net Second option = stain or spray the tents (and stash-barrels) - why not spay-paint a barrel green, black or camo combination, is that a problem? Also, most real tents will take 2 or 3 diagonal stripes of black or green without falling to pieces.. same principle = this breaks up the outline (crafting again) Pile a few green pine branches against a tent (or pile branches against barrels) - three or four green pine branches will break the outline and the color of a tent to make a big difference (Note: this has to be programmed into the tent color, as 'crafting' or else from a distance pine branches will look like bare sticks. IRL - myself, wearing a mountain pack with a bright colored stripe down the back , I would FIRSTLY rub dirt in it, AND if noit effective, then spraypaint a couple of green zags across the bright color it (this will not ruin the backpack at all, I swear) and add some dirt in the paint, OR just hang or tie a spray of green pine branch over the back of it. Tie a bit of netting over the top and thread in a handful of foliage. Netting - as well as tents or barrels, you can cover helmets and headgear, and add greenery - you can wear a simple hang of netting over your head - held in place under any hat - just for face-shadow and to break the outline, or you can also add green plants, grasses, whatever. Note - there is no reason for creating full ghillie suit (unless you really want that degree of invisibility). To become less visible you need some netting over your face or head, and ideally a piece of netting across your backpack..thread in a few or strands of long grass or weed. Same for tents.= some sticks or rope and some greenery to weave in. Also - drab tents.. green tents, stone colored tents - you may have noticed, all the permanent military tents in the game are NOT bright blue. Where does the military get that stuff from? Hey, take a knife and cut the side out of a military tent, roll it up and take it away - or find tarpaulins on building sites or on the backs of trucks, Or use a couple of neutral colored blankets from civilian houses. (I have a problem about blankets - can't understood why there are NO Blankets in Chernarus - you can do so many things with a blanket and every house must have at least ONE, right?.. it's the thing you can guarantee to find. They are good for shelters, can be converted into ponchos, carrying stuff, hiding ground-stashes, making headbands, moving unconscious players, cutting strips for camo, covering barrels, making slings for wounds,or keeping you warm, .. ya know? A while ago there were threads on constructing shelters here on the Forum, with many design suggestions. Each crafted shelter is in fact a stash of one kind or another. At least half those suggestions could use a tent as a base for the structure. Tents should also be permitted under tree cover (under low branches) with only the front 2 feet (clear) forced to remain on bare ground.( - if at all technically possible - but not under water or in walls or rocks, ok?) * The rendering problem. if it is too difficult to change the color, shape, visibility, by crafting solutions, then yes, make them not render beyond a fixed distance, But this is a messy alternative IMO and will lead to all kinds of problems (firstly - this would definitely not be implemented before the new rendering engine IMO, and then might turn up unforeseen problems) xx pilgrim

TEA PARTY | Epoch 1.0.5.1|Origins 1.7.9.5|Lingor 2.3.1 | VETERAN (No Crossair) Search for TEA PARTY in DayZ Launcher. Looking for hardcore clans who like to start with nothing and build their way up. There's no auto refuel, towing or bloodbag etc. No pay to win either. We do have an achievement system though that rewards bandits/heros at certain levels, with special access to VIP areas etc. You even get a badge to show off your ranking. All the same though, this server is not for people who like to start a new life with gear, or have access to easy-life scripts iike tow-lift, auto-refuel, self bloodbag etc. There are traders scattered throughout the map that will gladly sell you most items, but it's not going to be easy. There are no safe zones, anywhere. So be vigilant at all times. Talking of staying safe, Zombies are a real threat on this server, they are everywhere and in larger numbers than your average server. Even at AI missions, they are a real pain. Oh and they only die with headshots. Ah and that brings me to the last point that might make or break your decision to join, there is no crossair..... Recently added to the server is: Eyescanner keycode for vehicles (only you can locate your vehicle with a GPS and unlock it without a key). Eyescanner door access with friend management including plot management too. We've added snap and vector building, this is more for the PVE and role players (like myself). There's a lot more to discover, but we must stress that we've tried to keep the scripts to a minimum and only added stuff that we feel balances out the PVE vs PVP and roleplay element. As a side note: All vehicle traders sell and buy the same vehicels, so no going to one trader only to find he doesn't sell SUV's etc.. Of course Armed vehicles are still only available through hero and bandit trader. We've got the origin vehicles too and not to mention Origin houses, forts and pyramids. It's all there, you just need to get the rank for it. So if you think your clan is up for the challenge, come and join us.

Hello, I am currently very interested in hosting my own Dayz Vanilla server. I have looked into a lot of tutorials, but I haven't found a full tutorial that will include everything, with full detail. I would be very happy if someone can guide me into making my own server on a VDS. Most of the tutorials I've seen usually give me links to shady websites that I am not willing to visit. I am also not really interested in Dayz control center. I just want to host a server that has vehicles, and is fully vanilla, and vehicles respawn on server restart whenever it's destroyed. Thank you!

I swear to God it was no accident, no crash, no mistake or glitch, nothing. I was just driving up that road to the left, in the first gear. And I was doing my best to continue just that. :D Apparently, there is a small black hole in Nagornoe. Yeah, I know it's alpha, I'm just pointing out that you recommended shooting cars with a bow. ;) I understand many people who don't have this kind of patience. Some people who play DayZ SA in alpha don't have the patience to deal with broken mechanics? I haven't tried using the in-game maps with the new UI. I think you might just be part of the crowd that plays the game as if it weren't in alpha. I keep driving vehicles because they are broken, not despite their brokenness. I am very close to understanding the random spin-outs and flipping behaviors well-enough to submit a cogent bug report on the matter. Last night, we "wore out" a Lada; we could still drive, and use the gears, but it had no purchase. Eventually it was unable to accelerate beyond 8 or 10 kmph. It seemed to resemble a clutch failing to fully engage. Eventually, even I was convinced that the vehicle must be destroyed. That is an entirely new behavior, and I never would have discovered it if I had given up on using vehicles because it was inconvenient. Edit: I should mention that I am nearly burnt out on submitting bug reports for the time being. I have done quite a few of them with video documentation the past few weeks, and many of them still have the new status. I might just go back to playing the game like other people soon. Putting a lot of work into chasing bugs so we can have working vehicles faster feels kinda stupid when apparently nobody is even looking at the bug reports. -

One thing about the new UI - can you access the in-game map with it? I couldn't figure it out and if it's not possible, then I'm just saying 'no thanks'. As for the vehicles - I don't think the main beef is that they are worthless worthless. It's just they don't feel like vehicles (I'm talking about the general feel of authenticity, not hardcore realism). If your imaginary object experiences any kind of issues going uphill, then you can't seriously make me pretend to believe that's a motor vehicle. You don't see real drivers boast that they mastered the fourth gear. And I don't care how shitty roads in Chernarus are, they don't work like catapults. The point is not that you can get used to this piss-poor performance, the point is that you shouldn't have to. Which means, you can do like many players and just wait until the cars actually work. Yes, I share your love to vehicles and I got pretty decent at driving them as well, but they're still "overloaded shopping carts on an earthquake-struck ice rink", no matter how good you are with them. This happened to me just a week ago: I swear to God it was no accident, no crash, no mistake or glitch, nothing. I was just driving up that road to the left, in the first gear. And I was doing my best to continue just that. :D Apparently, there is a small black hole in Nagornoe. Yeah, I know it's alpha, I'm just pointing out that you recommended shooting cars with a bow. ;) I understand many people who don't have this kind of patience. -
While I agree that you don't normally see people in Pulkovo, I also agree with the OP that we lack decent wilderness area for (relatively) safe camps. I know some people believe their vehicle is safe if parked somewhere in Topolniki, but somehow this doesn't cut it for me. Remember that the map has just contracted more or less five times just by the sheer existence of cars. This will only continue with more reliable vehicles and eventually the chopper. And the North is only getting deforested, too (I hear Tisy is finally coming soon). I'd like to get some areas hard to access, or at the very least denser woods as suggested above. Yes, huge swaths of the map are unused but it's not like you can kick back and have a bonfire anywhere you want. Or leave your car. Barring additional space, it frustrates the hell out of me that we can't paint or put any kind of camo on our cars/tents/barrels. Right now I would welcome it more than further improvements to the driving performance.

Cars get hoovered up quickly by the people in-the-know. I've destroyed/lost at least a half-dozen vehicles on stable, and always go looking for a new one right away. My preference is to have a couple buses well-hidden for special occasions, a sedans for cruisers, two or three Ladas spread about for helicopter hunting or taxi missions, and a couple of workhorse V3Ss for hauling jobs. Interesting side-note that I discovered with Cold Atrophy, while trying to set up a few tire warehouses: If you don't put your tires in tents, having too many in the same place will do terrible things to the server. Our network of tire stockpiles is nearly complete. If anyone has a server in mind that we should test this on, we would be interested to see how many tires in the same place it would require to crash a server or client. Between the two of us, we have used up dozens of tires this patch; as well as flipped, stuck, run-dry, and all other manner of rendering vehicles inoperable, and then recovered a fair amount them. I killed myself the other day, just so I could get to the coast quickly without having to worry about keeping a vehicle running the whole trip to the coast and back. There are still lots of problems with the vehicles. Random vehicle tips: Use the new UI--it makes things so much easier. You can sometimes repair pristine tires to maximize your traction. If all tires are fully pristine condition, and your rig still drives like shit, rotate the tires. If you flip over, or get stuck on a rock wall, you can use an improvised bow to jostle the car back into a driveable postion; make sure to remove all the wheels and doors first, and replace and remove one wheel between each shot--the impact often will not register until you interact with the vehicle; so shooting a bunch of arrows at the car, only to see it go up in flames and right itself upon replacing the first tire, is not the recommended course of action. Manual transmission guide: Lots of people have been calling the trucks and bus worthless. They are flat wrong. Those vehicles are just more difficult to learn how to drive. I will provide a recommended amount of time to accelerate through each gear on flat pavement, formatted in ascending order, as follows: Car name--time spent in each gear, in seconds (1st, 2nd, 3dr, 4th) Sedan--(1.5,2,2,X) Offroad--(1,1,1.5,X) Bus--(2.5,2,5,X) V3S--(1.5,1.5,6,X) The rule of thumb for each vehicle is to generally get into fourth gear, and stay there for as long as possible, even while decelerating for turns. The exceptions are on hills, as you will slide if you top out the gear you are in, and failed to downshift at the proper time. Some slopes and surfaces simply cannot be navigated, and you must learn the individual capabilities of each vehicle. The Offroad has practically useless first and second gears on pavement, but you will mostly need only the second gear for navigating steep, wooded terrain. The sedan becomes unstable at high speeds, and cannot maintain traction on surfaces that are mottled grassy/dirt-rocks combination fields. The bus appears to only have one drive wheel, and will quickly lose momentum on undulating uneven surfaces. Momentum is everything; I take the bus through flat-ish fields and woods to avoid slowing down for corners or roadblocks. The V3S has ridiculously short first and second gears, given the noises the engine makes. Try to shift between 1500 and 2000 RPMs, use the tachometer on the dash from 1pp. There is also two sets of graduated bars along the left edge of the speedometer, which seem to indicate when a gear is at efficient operating speed. Do not try to start the truck moving up any sort of incline, you need to be going at least 40 kMph in fourth, then smartly shift to third gear to get up hills in the V3S. -

Thanks for the info, S3V3N, although this sure is bad news. I myself totalled many cars due to the 4th gear or the mysteriously strong gravitational pull of hill slopes and it's a pity that such vehicles don't return to the pool. I may try to grenade them a bit. I'm not that sure about no damage to body. At first I thought the same, but then I found a Volga badly crashed by somebody else, I replaced the tires but couldn't start her. Granted, I think the battery and plug were ruined but I'm positive that in this patch, the condition of neither matters. So I guess it had something to do with the body. As for the trucks - I believe this is the vehicle claimed the least by players so you were just unlucky finding one. When I'm going to a vehicle hunt, I don't shy from even the most remote spawn points as these are places where you can fix a car in peace. However, once I saw a truck in Topolniki which just stood there for at least four days! People would try to fix it, but with damaged 2wheels it probably wouldn't even move. Eventually, I got around to find four pristine 2wheels and snatched it, only to lose it immediately to the North-direction bug. This reminds me - where do you find your car tents? One more funny thing - for dark green trucks, you can find places in the woods which look like literally planted by the devs in order to serve as some sort of a tree garage. Check it out: -
I think booby-traps might be part of the answer to camp security (as well as being able to craft foliage camo, as suggested before). If you've got, say, 4 barrels at your camp and you store stuff in one of them with the other 3 wired to some improvised explosives, if someone, even a group, did find your stash, they're less likely to actually rob you. Other than that, reducing player speed would make a big difference. If it takes a long time to traverse the map without a vehicle, people aren't going to find stuff like camps so easily. And people that are in vehicles aren't going to spot them easily anyway. I'd favour the default, most energy (and therefore time) efficient movement speed over longer distances to be walking, once stamina is functioning properly and the survival mechanics are more fleshed out. If long journeys require preparation and time to complete without seriously damaging the health of your character, it will make the map feel much larger and wilderness areas more perilous to cross without the appropriate kit.

1. how is the team/ group play nowadays? Is there any game mechanics that encourage something like that? I remember there has been some ideas/ projects to establish player controlled savezones (for trading and the like), clan camps, paramedics, bandit hunting and so on...are things working out like that or is it still mostly people lonewolfing and killing bambis out of boredom? This is a good idea. But will most likely not work on a public server. But it works out of the box for ARMA3 - Exile (the maps Chernarus, Eseeker exists also). 2. are vehicles (cars, choppers) introduced yet? As previous answered, yes. But beware: First you have to find a car etc. Then you have to find tires (correct ones, car, bus, truck or offroad), sparkplug (for a car) glowplugs (for bus, truck) battery (truck or car battery) and also headlights. In my opinion it´s to much focus to just get the f-ing car to work. And when you finally get them to work; slow and sluggish. And can get stuck far to easy, starts to bounce even tough no one is in the car...if or when they introduce the chopper...aren´t there enough of heliwrecks...or will it be the same hustle, find rotorblades, find manual to learn flying... 3. how is the graphic optimization going? As previous answered, no. But does anyone know when it´s planned? 4. I know it's still alpha but I wonder how much fatal bugs are left? Walking in stairs at police stations can just kill you, walking outside a garage can just kill you (on a empty server eg not killed by player). Btw how hard would it be to add that, killed by world, killed by player. At least then you know. Also , if you paint your weapon (Mosin) while loaded it won´t shoot even tough you can empty the mag. This can also happen while logging off and come back. And the usual, paint the hand guard black for the AK otherwise you can´t attach the bi pod, just in the real world.... -

Yeah the whole ammo system, gun system is broken right now. The more they work on that the more that will be fixed. Finding no ammo for guns, in use around the map is dull. Finding infected around the map, and only able to use is an axe is dull. fighting pvp with an axe is dull. So lets play house and build some? dull. Hopefully the dull wears off and the guns return to normal, and the game actually starts getting finished. These tests have already been done enough... before it becomes dull in the end. Its playable, add in the features that we have already alpha tested and let us play the game. If you add vehicles then so be it. Half of the items spawning are not spawning and half have already been added to the game. If you want 100 people all searching for that 1 axe in the firehouse....... dull simply put. -
You spawn objects / vehicles by calling pMain(instance). Now, your instance-id is set in your missionfile in the init.sqf. This has to correspond with the exact number being called in the pMain function in the database. For example, if your instance-id is "1337" (as per default) you will have to execute "pMain(1337)" on your SQL-Server.
