hishnik 23 Posted June 13, 2012 YesSound idea is awesome. Visual is okay, as long as is very subtle, something you can see from binoculars perhaps.Persistent... undecided, though leaning towards yes.
i wub pugs 16 Posted June 13, 2012 YESAny subtle addition like this is welcome. I hate all of the icons anyway so this is a step in the right direction.
Powermolch 3 Posted June 13, 2012 YES,IF Youhavetobevery CLOSE. Not like that 50 metres Zombie Cry Sound. More like "Grab that thing off their backpack" Range. My 20 Words. ^^
FieldMedic 7 Posted June 13, 2012 NOWhat if I don't care about their humanity? Sound FX would quickly get irritating if I grouped with them.I think this is a legitimate concern. If say 3 bandits are driving in a car or sitting around a tent or camp fire or whatever, you might not want to constantly hear the audio cue.
Tekk (DayZ) 0 Posted June 13, 2012 This system would work, if the bandit was standing right in front of you. The problem with this system is that if a bandit is hiding then the heartbeat noise would play, giving away the bandit. The idea that you can sort of see what type of person someone is by their looks is a good idea, but it would just be too difficult (I would imagine) to make the system be able to distinguish whether or not the bandit was hidden. This would give survivors an unfair buff over bandits as bandits wouldn't be able to hide as a survivor could just listen for heartbeat noises when aiming at tress, bushes etc.
SLASH-7 27 Posted June 13, 2012 I'll go with yes.To at least test this out and see what it does to the current gameplay cannot hurt at all. But it should be time restricted, having to keep the character in your sights for at least 30 seconds or maybe more to hear the heartbeat sound would be a lot better. That would solve the possibility of accidently hearing a bushes heart beat. (it's just a bush, move along.) This would hardly hinder bandits, it would give players incentive to sneak up and see if they are friendly or not, possibly exposing themselves to the bandit. caddrel 3 Posted June 13, 2012 Awesome idea. Adds tension.Range should be when you can make out a person's face and details of clothing?
rocket 16567 Posted June 13, 2012 Clarifying points:- Line-of-sight is required. You have to be looking at them.- It is for VERY low humanity.- Players will not know their humanity.- Players will not know how their humanity is perceived by others.- Some randomness will be introduced into the process. osme_oxys 9 Posted June 13, 2012 No. It magic. This game shouldn't be based around magic.
wynarator 0 Posted June 13, 2012 YESDONT make it work from 2m, maybe it should depend on time spent watching someone (even through binoculars)?
Swampfox 0 Posted June 13, 2012 YESNot only direct LOS, but withing a certain range as well. 20m let's say?
mikyjax 3 Posted June 13, 2012 Randomness is more awfull than no heartbeat. That option doesn't bring nothing then. You will hear nothing, think the guy is good, try to team up with and then he kills you. Without this at least we try to avoid theim.
Freezern 21 Posted June 13, 2012 Yes.Sounds like a fun mechanic, should at least be tested.
demazi99 1 Posted June 13, 2012 Yes.Subtle, sometimes you can just feel that something is really wrong with someone. This adds it.
hishnik 23 Posted June 13, 2012 /snipFirst of all, you got long 20 words, bud.As for suggestion, I don't like your approach. It penalizes you for playing specific way, and promotes carebear lifestyle . While constant DM is frustrating, you are playing an FPS.Psychopaths probably have no problem sleeping at night, as they do not possess same feelings as most of us do. Let the game be as is, no need to be separatist. ;)
MrSparkle (DayZ) 0 Posted June 13, 2012 YesThis is not to identify someone snipeing from 500 yards away. This is to help players decide when they stumble across one another. Right now, it's shoot or run. With some kind of "intuition" system maybe not everyone will shot each other on sight. What bothers me the most is a player helping another player in trouble and getting shot for his trouble. Normal rescued people don't repay a kindness with a bullet to the brainz. Though after reading many posts here, I'm sure there are many who would. :)This might not be the answer Rocket, but it seems like you get what the issues are and will figure it out.Cool game man, it's the most emotional game I have ever played. worst2first 71 Posted June 13, 2012 YESIt's an attempt to mimic human perception. I once knew a guy that NO dogs liked. I too thought he was a little off. He turned out to be a criminal.
Squatthrust 3 Posted June 13, 2012 YES,I don't think it'll make a difference with the DM problem, but I'd like to be proven wrong. This is an experiment after all.
