A lot of risk with zero reward.(and snow)

Recommended Posts

Today i thought i should go from Rogovo to Tissy military base. When i reached Tissy MB it was looted but i still managed to get one tactical vest and 2 packs of ammo.

But...it took me two hours to get there, 5 cans of food, 2 refills of water, 5 clips of ammo, 1 broken knife, 1 ruined can opener, half a gun cleaning kit and a whole sewing kit.

The loot is the same in zelenogorsk and that base can be raided far easier and after that you can run south for 7 minutes and raid pavlovo MB..why should anyone bother going up there?

I love taking risks...but for that you would want rewards. No?

Here is an idea:

Everything above nwa should be covered in snow, there should be dangerous animals, frozen ponds and streams, cold as hell. Snow blizzards where you can't see 10 meters ahead.  And both Tissy and Kamensk MB should have better loot, i'm talking SVD, SAW or m60,  double the ammo, smersh vest, winter camo clothes, winter camo tents, different helmets, thick military clothes.

Then people could take that risk and be rewarded. Players who want even more hardcore could choose to set up camps and try to live in that harsh environment.

Been saying this since I realised going to nwaf is pointless if you want gear. Places like that should have its own loot, like heli crashes.

They should have made Nato bases in the south and Eastern bases in the North. You want an AK go to a Eastern base, want an M4 go to a Nato base etc. When I first played dayz I though that is the way it worked but I was wrong. They could even put in Nato zombies on Nato bases.

Glad more like the idea. But helicrashes...umm they are crap. Ran into one earlier today. Blue UN helmet, assault backpack (damaged), SVD and i think a pair of gloves.

That would be cool and also more variations in zombies att military bases. Maybe shirtless, a backpack on, rifle in the shoulder, helmet etc. could vary your encounters much more. It's in the details.

I like your idea there. The police zombies having a holstered pistol or shotgun on shoulder would be cool.

Love it,  say you spot that zombie with a weapon... but he's in a bit if a crowd. Is it worth drawing the attention? Choices...choices

Love the idea of stalking a specific zombie for a weapon or piece of gear.

Exactly. Bohemia can we get this? Another way to salvage gear and have variation in encounters.

The real trick is to get your loot from other players. Let them do the hard work for you and then take it from them. Dont forget it is a pvp game. Its the way the game is meant to play.

There isn't A way to play, there are lots of ways. It's not just a pvp game though it certainly is to some people.

It really is a pvp focused game though. Yes you can play anyway you want but pvp/pve is what the core game is and has been.

Unfortunally it has become a PvP game on xbox.

But i see it more as a pve with rare and few encounters of other players. You are never forced to engage and can always stay away.

Core game is survival, you against nature, wildlife, thirst, hunger etc.

I would agree with this. I tend to play more as a survival pve, with occasional player encounters. I've had as many positive encounters as I've had negative. The survival aspect and the player interaction aspect make this game what it is. I think that people playing it purely for the pvp aspect are missing the point. But each to their own, and I suppose having a few idiots in the server gives the game another facet.

Hmm, they're might be a thread or two that actually discusses that. Could be worth a look.

BI brought in a studio design team to rebuild the Environment 4 years ago ..  They mainly concentrated on TAKING OUT wilderness.  If you used the thread I linked you as a STARTING place, would have found the WHOLE LONG argument about wilderness, rivers, tree-density, blocks of housing, temperature extremes, mountains, roads, military bases, lakes, dams, city/village proliferation, solitude, isolated areas, hideouts, special areas.  All THAT argument and discussion was decided and nailed down 4 years ago. Many players had many comments to make. What you get NOW is the RESULT of that policy design decision.
If you are interested in restarting that discussion, or startting your own without going over the same stuff again  - check out what already happened, what was proposed by players. Notice the decisions BI made, how the map changed - and start the discussion again.
I'm simply giving you a tiny helpful pointer to a few dozen SOLID blocks of information that you might find useful. You maybe missed them the first time round. This whole environment issue has been discussed to death.

Thanks for the link! Been liking reading the original discussions about Dayz. ALOT has changed from the ol' days.. I see why the PC peeps can get frustrated reading the Xbox forums about repeated topics but please remember we are not all like that ;)

no problem dude  ...

if you ask a straight question on this forum - the tradition is someone will give you a good answer..there has been a lot of help passed around for a long time.. the word "nubes" got banned about a century ago (dont know if it got banned or if just nobody ever used it..) .. If you ask how to put a tent up someone will explain it or give you a link. if you want to know anything about guns, ask Gews, ask odin_lowe about photography, (ask Emuthreat about anything at all and see what happens?). there are people around with different skills .. surely some new players with a range of high talents too.

I don't have any negative feeling about console players. < I'm an old PC player.. like them because they are RE -programmable, you can do anything with them.. Man I can play the original Pokemon Red right here on a 4 core, from the GameBoy program.   neat? - (8 bit sound by Junichi Masuda!!) - I just came out like that, not my fault >

Console players  have been exposed to 100% "best sellers"  pretty much, because big companies like to sell megabucks of games... But consoles are everywhere now.. in a while perhaps TVs and consoles (and PCs I hope), hell, the whole house will be more or less one unit. The only thing that can stop that is if the Megacorps manage to keep their 'franchise' in a stranglehold, separate from the communication multiverse.

Consoles started off "for kids", but they've been around long enough now to deal with serious adult, specialist, and minority interests.. They grew up, & plenty of the "kids" grew up .. if Omni Consumer Products can stop pretending it's Walt Disney and realize the way to earn more money is put out special & interesting "not-best-sellers" - things that appeal to plenty of players but not to millions.. then maybe console will come of age in a big way.

I guess the more the console players grow up, the more the content they want will grow up with them, they more they think about stuff, the more they can make their own minds up, the better will be the quality they look for... the better the things they'll get.   Like writing novels.. someone will say, "Hey, this is not a best seller, but 600,000 people think it's GREAT".. so let's DO that..

"scuse me.. got started off on something there..  I've liked DayZ for a long time.  It can change people and change the way they play (even the way they think in the game); that's not bad.

enjoy.

This forum has been really informative and I do really feel a part of the community here. As much help as I get, I try to pass it on to others too. Yes there has been a lot of help passed around for a long time and it's great to see and it's OG guys like yourself and @emuthreat that have been helping us out alot, and helping us catch up with the history and development of this game.

Lol, very neat, definitely jealous of what you guys can do with your rigs. I started my gaming experiences on PC with titles like Wolfenstein 3D and Command and Conquer Red Alert. Wen I first heard of Dayz as an Arma II Mod I rushed out and priced out a PC that could handle it and unfortunately it wasn't in the cards..

I agree console players have been exposed to 100% "best sellers" pretty much since consoles became a thing. When I first started playing Dayz for XBOX I really noticed that "culture shock" playing a game in development. I guess its just the nature of gaming , getting accustomed to always playing finished games. It would explain a lot of the Ranting/Complaining from the console side I guess... all these folk used to playing polished games..

Playing Dayz in development has actually gave me quite the interest in game development that I never had before. It's really fascinating watching it unfold, and hey we actually get to help with that?! YES. I see Developers supporting, talking and replying to players?! YES.  Pretty cool in my books man.

It is changing the ones who will except change and you guys are definitely helping for the better!
