How do you greet people in dayz

Recommended Posts

I have a recorded sound bye of frankie saying hello. I usually play that "hey man/buddy" sound clip and go from there. Depending on how their dressed, what direction theyre heading and which way I'm going, I will either say hello or just hide and wait for them to pass. If I do say hello and there is no response and/or if they just take off sprinting, then its time for bullets. Only twice that I can think of did I say hello and just received bullets as an answer. Usually its a quick hello how are you, need anything, you go that way ill go this way type of deal.

PS I learned the hard way that even if someone sounds friendly and you converse for 10 or 15 mins, never ever give them ammo for their empty gun.

I love how you can pretty much gauge the level of sophistication of the player by their response to this thread.

At this point, if I don't just avoid you, I'll put an arrow between your knees to make sure you leave me alone.

Can we just talk about how awful our character's "bow-form" is? I mean....Jesus.

Wrapping your fingers around the bowstring like that is very similar to jerking the trigger on a firearm: it will make the arrow veer off in the opposite direction, due to the string "rolling". You use the pads of your fingers to pull on the string.

Likewise, you lock your bow-arm out straight when bending the bow back. If you don't, you will end up using the wrong muscles (you want to draw a bow with the muscles in your back, not in your arms), and probably hurt yourself.

If I spot someone I will keep a good distance (100 meters or so) and raise my hand as a greeting, I won't have a weapon in my hands. If the other person has a weapon in his hands and doesn't put it away, or has no weapon in his hands but equips it I run away zig zagging.

If all this doesn't happen I will approach carefully and say something like "hey man, I don't want to fight, anything you need?" If I decide to run I always survive (maybe once got killed being shot in the back in 1000+ hours) and if it comes to talking I would say my survival rate is about 70%. I usually die when I run into players unexpectedly and who KOS me without having a chance to defuse the situation (I hardly ever run around with a gun in my hands, even in military installations).

"Hey man, how's it goin?" in a casual friendly tone. I am shocked by how often it results in a positive outcome!

Basically if I have crap gear and I really need to go the direction of someone, I say "Hiya survivor". If I have great gear and see someone, I slip into cover. Sadly it seems clear that some players talk to get you to stop so they can get a head shot from close range. So if I have good gear and hear someone talk it's instant full speed run away from the direction the sound came from with lots of jinking and I break line of site and then change directions 30 degrees and get into cover.

Usually a nervous hello, followed by me backing away a few steps to keep distance. If I'm in a good mood, it'll sound annoyingly sweet.
