Bonersaurus Rex 0 Posted December 15, 2015 I want a survival game. In your honest, whole-hearted opinions excluding bias. Does DayZ deliver the tense, jittery feeling of a survival simulator?I'd like to make sure what I invest is in a good purchase, I' am well aware the game is in Alpha and has a slow development process. Also, if you could list pros and cons of the game from your own experiences, that would be absolutely helpful.I'm actually looking forward to this game, but I'm on a budget, so I need to make sure the $40 I spend will be a worthwhile. ColdAtrophy 1850 Posted December 15, 2015 Tense and jittery? It can be. Is it a survival sim? Not yet, no. The framework is there. Do your research and make an informed purchase. This is an alpha first and foremost. Please be sure you understand what that means before you buy.
eno 1049 Posted December 15, 2015 Also, if you could list pros and cons of the game from your own experiences, that would be absolutely helpful. C'mon man- read. There are thousands of posts... start at 5 pages back in "how was your dayz" in this forum and work down from there. If you're one who likes to be spoonfed everything then this game is not for you. Or, better yet, you're not for it.

ScipioII 176 Posted December 15, 2015 The game is what you make of it. If you are the type that focus in the faults and glitches, don't waste money. If you are the type that can roll with the punches and take glitches in your stride, Dayz will be fun Every iteration of the game brings new challenges and new things to explore. Start by playing on a full night time server, dim the IRL lights and enjoy.
pilgrim* 3514 Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) YES All DayZ can offer you is blood, sweat, tears, frustration, fear, anger, confusion, panic, boredom, horror, unfairness, stress, adrenaline and death if you like a game to make sense, if you want to level, if you like to gain points, if you expect fair play, if you must have an objective, if you need to know "what the Hell just happened?", if you expect anything to be rational, if you expect the expected, if you like to know when you are winning, if you must have incentives, if you want second chances, if you want a scoreboard, if you expect anything at all sane from any other player, if you want to avoid madness, treachery and cannibalism, if you want a game you can complete, if you expect a reward for playing, if you expect even to stay alive... then this game is maybe not for you you join DayZ to DieDayZ will put you where you Can do exactly that there is only ONE game like this - take it or leave it, there will never be another (seriously = what other game do you know where the player can blow his own head off when he can't face it any more ?- and that was added by Popular Demand, I swear) It's the only game where if I don't play for a week or so, when I open it up again I'm AFRAID to log in. xx Edited December 17, 2015 by pilgrim
IMT 3190 Posted December 15, 2015 In my honest opinion, yes. I never really liked survival games/post-apocalyptic games until I played DayZ. Since March/April I have played the game 700 hours which is a lot to be honest. Even though it's an alpha the game is worth every penny of it and it isn't even finished. Now I can talk about the adrenaline rush you get when you see a player or get in a gunfight with a player but that is pointless. That is something you need to experience first hand and believe me, it makes you hunger for more. At the moment it isn't really a survival game yet but when the game is released it will be. Even if it is not the case, some modder will make the game a survival simulator. As you already said, you know that it is an alpha game. Sometimes that brings frustration, expect to die for no reason, experience weird bugs, sudden game crashes or other weird stuff. Another thing what bugs me is the "Call of Duty"-audience which only play to gear-up and go bezerk in a coastal town. Of course it is one of the many playstyles but the big majority plays like this and it's not the sole purpose of the game. Now I have to be honest, after 700 hours it gets a bit stale but the developers are trying and working hard to make the game better and better each time. I honestly think that even after I played 700 hours already there will be at least another 1.000 after the release. TLDR: Buy DayZ, it's worth your money even for an alpha game.
battlerhd 116 Posted December 22, 2015 If you enjoy piss poor performance and completely unreliable game mechanics then go for it, I suggest play with some friends to liven the experience
Killawife 599 Posted December 23, 2015 I love this game. I've never had the kind of experience playing a game like I'v e had in this one before. However, I can pick and choose any game I want. If I was on a budget I would consider other options. Not because this is a bad investment but its important to note that the game is far from finished. Performance is mediocre even with a beast of a computer and some bugs will make you tear out your hair when they happen. The survivalist part of the game isn't that good yet either. The basics of it is there but its way too easy to find what you need so you rarely even need to hunt or forage. I wasn't really a big fan of the "famine" patch of 0.55 but it sure made me see how hard this game could really be. As it is now the game is mostly centrered on PVP. And if that is what one wants there are far better alternatives. When its finished it will no doubt be awesome and the alternatives that exist supporting the type of gameplay that Dayz provides aren't that great. If you want survival ARK is probably the best alternative, along with Rust, which I personally can't stand. H1Z1 is more of a Dayz mod light PVP game than survival and I hear it got an even bigger problem with hackers than Dayz. There are also quite a few single player games that are simply brilliant but still only single player, which is sad. If you don't mind being annoyed quite a lot at things you can't control, while having rare moments of pure excellense, then get Dayz. You need to be aware of what you are byuing though so you won't become one of the whiners.
