nightsnake13 1 Posted September 1, 2015 I'm hoping that the zombies will return in .59 Does the z in dayz mean zombies or zero? When they do return I'm hoping that there is an increase where needed. By this i mean that i think the zombies should be at a 5 building=1 zombie ratio, that way big cities would have more zombies to worry about, and small towns will only have a few so a new char can find a weapon, before being bum rushed. And hopfully this will cut down on all the sencless bandit attacks. If i just wanted to fight humans i would play call of duty.
star-lord252 83 Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Don't worry this will come back soon depends though would you rather have a decrease of 15 fps and zombies hitting you threw walls I assume no I don't want that there currently tweaking them and stuff like that. Coheed_IV 381 Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Seems like they think they can get 2000. I know they may have said more at some point, but that might have been a while ago too. Recently they say 2000. I was thinking that sounded a bit low compared to the mod. But, if you look at a map and count the towns (very rough 70ish), it looks like that's a decent number. That would be 30ish per town. Small towns around 10, average towns around 30, that would leave cities maybe 50ish +. That's a complete guess, didn't take much time. But, one infected per 5 buildings would be really low and disappointing to me. The mod felt incredibly tough, nothing was easy, you had to be smart to make it, stealth and retreating were a big part of surviving, so large numbers have to happen for me. If I had my choice I would want 2,500. Edited September 1, 2015 by Coheed_IV
scriptfactory 620 Posted September 1, 2015 Does anyone have any information on what the Bratislava team has been working on for the past year? Are they actually still employed at BIS? Has anything been said in a Status Report? When Rocket was still around I had the feeling that they were about to do amazing things with infected and animal AI but I haven't heard anything about them in a while. stinkenheim 249 Posted September 1, 2015 With regards to zeds, don't forget hicks saying they hoped to add in dynamic hordes of zeds much like the heli crashes. Whilst the initial 2k zeds may seem low to some, adding in additional hordes would bump it up and be awesome. They will return, the issue I think was to do with the new tech used for zed ai and how it interacted with the older tech for players (or otherwsy round can't remember exactly) basically as well as there being issues with the resource usage of zeds I'm sure there was an issue with the compatibility of old and new tech

PrincessRobotBubblegum 27 Posted September 1, 2015 I have a love/hate relationship with the zombies. So, I kinda miss them. The funniest thing is to get a few all riled up, temporarily lose them, have them follow me in a building then wait long enough for their aggro to go off me so they stay around my building then wait for other people. The zombies are such snitches, the bastards. xD
liquidcactus 719 Posted September 1, 2015 The never ending zombie debate.. to be honest i just keep telling myself "another 4 months then we will have some interesting zombies" but these 4 month at a time segments keep rolling by for the past 18 months so who knows  .. but it is something that is so important for the game then so be it i spose.. I should check out the mod again actually since its almost been over 2 years since i played it
nightsnake13 1 Posted September 2, 2015 the increased zombies are stable in h1z1 so if a game that just started in jan can do it then so should this game after 3 years
antykain 200 Posted September 2, 2015 the increased zombies are stable in h1z1 so if a game that just started in jan can do it then so should this game after 3 years You are comparing 2 totally different game engines.. H1Z1's game engine was basically carried over from Planetside 2, thus already able to handle the stress of having a large population of players and zombies. DayZ's engine (Enfusion), while it's core was brought over from ARMA (Real Viruality Engine), is being pretty much completely rewritten in every aspect.. Zeds will make a return to DayZ when the devs get the issues they were having with them taken care of. The Zeds were killing the server performance in their current state, along with the many other issues they had.. so removing them until the said issues are fixed was the best option. And I am glad they are gone for now, and will be happy to see them return when the devs to their thing and bring them back. :) Looking forward to that day.. St. Jimmy 1631 Posted September 2, 2015 I guess they need to do the mod thing and de/spawn zombies. Something like 2000 is very low because those are spread in the whole map, in the mod it only meant those places where there were any players.10.000 is closer if you want to feel that the zombies even populate the map.

You only need about 100 zombies per player to give the feeling of a zombie apocalypse. There are enough papers written on performant techniques for dealing with large numbers of AI. I don't think BIS needs more ideas on how to improve performance. I think they just need the manpower/time to accomplish it.
