Evil Minion 943 Posted August 12, 2015 Well, too bad boring people are running around shooting everyone because guns (aka tools that allow you to greatly influence the gamplay choices of other players) and ammo (aka the resource that allows you to use those powerful tools) are extremely easy to find and there is not much else to worry about. It does not help that there are quite a few design choices that make combat much easier. The game (currently) does not offer very much in terms of PvE (fighting NPCs or just trying to survive in a hostile environment), non-combat interaction and general artistic expression (I would put things "base building" in this category as well) - things I would consider vital in a multiplayer survival sandbox game. PvP is a good thing - but not if it takes over gamplay completely.
Chaingunfighter 917 Posted August 12, 2015 Well, PvP is just the concept of you, the player, in competition with other players to complete the goal of the game, which in the case of DayZ is to survive as long as possible. So long as there are limited resources and players can deal damage to each other, PvP will be a thing. Generally most people associate it with the "shoot everyone you see, organize clan deathmatches in Elektro, etc" crowd - I'm not too fond of that specifically (though if that's how people want to play then so be it, there's really not much that can be done to limit it other than reduce resources anyway.) However, the concept of players generally being the main threat to your survival is absolutely something I support.
dayzZzZzZ 4 Posted August 13, 2015 I really like observing people and following them around for a while. I also like carrying multiple weapons, circling around a bunch of guys and firing everything I have from cover. Not with the intention of killing anyone, but just to pretend there is more than me out there. Spreading chaos and watching it unfold is my mission in Dayz :) I don't like close quarters fighting in towns, because I'm missing the zombies. It's too easy to sit on some roof and just pour down led. It's not how I play, but I've been killed that way a couple of times. PvP can be fun when you meet someone with the same weapon. It either ends in one or both running out of ammo and having a laugh or just splitting up again. I've had a guy walk up to me and ask for an axe battle, which we then performed and both had fun doing. I wish I could cause more mayhem in Dayz, but without infected the game doesn't allow for a lot of experiments. PvP is okay, but most of the time, I just wanna run around and explore. Especially, if I missed a few patches and there are new mechanics to try out. i call bullshit on this stupid, unrealistic tactic of yours. keep dreaming.you don't like CQB because you're bad, not because of zombies. dayzZzZzZ 4 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) I don't like pvp but do like that other players can pose a threat. What I see the die hard pvpers complaining about for the most part is that this game isn't just like many other games that already cater to gear, kill, die, repeat which has nothing to do with survival, they don't value their's or anyone else's characters lives any farther than a tally. I prefer my interactions to be meeting someone in passing, aiding them if they need it, letting them know I'm fine if they offer, exchanging some info on what we've seen and going on with our respective dayz. I don't doubt there'd be a bunch of kill em all assholes at the onset of something like this but it's not a sustainable lifestyle and in reality they'd kill each other off in short order. If it wasn't for bugs I'd be all for a 12hr lockout after you died to think about what you did wrong and not repeat it in your next "life". please go try a game called elder scrolls and don't bash the pvper's cause youre incapable of aiming and reacting quick.better yet, try cabelas hunting game since all you do is run around and shoot retarded fuckin deer.thanks Edited August 13, 2015 by dayzZzZzZ

S3V3N 1402 Posted August 13, 2015 (edited) i call bullshit on this stupid, unrealistic tactic of yours. keep dreaming.you don't like CQB because you're bad, not because of zombies.I don't play like that often, but I tried out many things you can't even dream of. I've been practically playing the Mod from day one, as someone busted into my Chernarus Life session and said "hey, that zombie mod has been released today!". As everone went off, I checked it out and my Dayz love was born. You should try it outfor yourself! You don't even have to look exactly like someone else and you have to make sure they are on direct talk and not on Skype or off-game. If you as much as wear a cowboy hat and the right jacket and mix with a small group in a town (where they split up to loot and then get back together, they will not instantly know what to do with you and sometimes don't even notice. I stood right next to guys and yelled that I saw someone in the police station and they all rushed off to check. Mimikry is the way :) People in this game are much too preoccupied with getting shot, but instead of running away or shooting first, most never consider they can also just blend in. You just make yourself a target, if you behave like one. But you need a bit of luck and a populated server to try this. I'm sorry, if you feel the best thing to do in this game is to shoot everyone. Westyn9156 1 Posted August 13, 2015 PvP is probably the main reason i play this. I really enjoy it, used to be a hero, but seems like a hard thing to do anymore.

TheScruffyBandit 382 Posted August 13, 2015 I like PvP as a concept and it's a required part of the DayZ experience so long as it is framed within a context of hardship and scarcity, however I don't like the current factors that make PvP in this game extremely unrewarding as an experience. There seems to be an idea within the DayZ dev team that DayZ should move away from its ARMA roots and establish itself as something different, however they're often throwing the baby out with the bath water while doing it and losing the satisfying mechanics & realism that made ARMA an enjoyable experience. The-MCV- 149 Posted August 14, 2015 Sometimes, but when I do, I try to make it as much of an ambush or troll kill as possible.
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted August 14, 2015 My pvp skills are that of a wet cat trying attempting to appear fluffy. I don't pvp, but I enjoy spectating others in silence.
Killawife 599 Posted August 14, 2015 The reason I play this game is for those moments when someone is nearby trying to kill you and you play cat and mouse trying to outsmart eachother. Not shooting like crazy but rather getting the drop on the other person. These moments are great fun, it doesnt matter if its in a squad or alone against one or multiple opponents and actually I dont usually care wether i live or die, its that exciting feeling you get at these moments that are the reason I play. I' ve never had this feeling while playing Battlefield or any pure Shooter. The reason I prefer the gearing up process much more than "fully geared" is that things get much more exciting when you only have a shotty and 6 bullets than when you have Ak, mp5, cr and fnx and three mags for each. The gearing up part of the game is for me much more a shaping of the character than the pure survival that some of the hardcore "Bear-gryllers" seem to want from this game. Right now its almost silly how fast you go from Bambi to fully geared and it ruins the gameplay.

Reg Park 160 Posted August 14, 2015 I will finally share my opinion, so the beginning of my "career" in SA - didn't really care about PVP but I still felt it was an essential part of the game. But after many hours, finally ventured out purposely for combat interaction to improve my skills. After nearly 2000 hours, it's pretty much the only aspect of the game I actually look forward to anymore. It's what gives me that adrenaline rush high that I'm eagerly after, and it's not to say gearing up or exploring isn't fun to me, I still enjoy that part but it's not going to get me high like fighting does, and no other game comes close to that. It's a big part of this post apocalyptic world that should always have its place. For those who want nothing to do with combat, I understand and respect that. I just hope after the rest of the development of the game, there is still room for both parties to enjoy their time.
