Don't say friendly!

Recommended Posts

So I was checking out NWAF on experimental for the first time in weeks.  Somehow, I lost my 1911 in the towers between tents and the NW hangars/barracks, I went back to look for it at the towers, and saw two guys coming through the open entrance.  I didn't have a gun in my hands, and my survival instincts kicked in.  I said:  "It's cool, It's cool, I'm just passing through."  They said "Okay dude," and we went our separate ways.

Best interaction I've had in a long time.  Never did find my gun, and two of my three CR75 mags that I left in a bag in a tree were missing. Now I wonder if I should have stopped and aksed them a few questions; from opposite sides of the concrete wall, of course.

I never say "friendly" because it's such a cliché. Everyone says it (unless they already have the drop on you) and it's become totally devalued because around 95% of the people who do say it start shooting about 15 seconds later.

A large proportion of shootings are just twitch/panic reactions, which I try to avoid by saying hi, how you doing, not going to hurt you, anything you need, etc.

Consider you are walking through the woods in real life and suddenly you meet a person yelling "Friendly!" at you. Suspicious, right?

Ingame it's similar - people calling "friendly" or staying completely silent (only writing in chat also counts) do not strike others as being interested in friendly player interaction at all.

If I say "friendly" its because I'm caught off guard and my brain derped. "Friendly" really means, "95% change I'm going to kill you".

If the first thing* someone says to me is that they're friendly, I assume you're not. Majority of the time, I'm right, and they die.

If you're friendly, act like it, don't just claim to be, goes back to the whole "Actions speak louder than words".

Every time anyone says Friendly, its just a matter of time before they start attacking you or trying to bash your brains in. Normal people don't do it.

Saying "Friendly!" upon first meeting someone else in DayZ is much like seeing a cop nearby and instantly saying, "I didn't do it."

When people go "are you friendly ? " latey my response is: "that depends on you actualy".

For some it takes a while to process but i got more "fair enough"s than shots.

Literally just had two guys yesterday run into the fire station with me going "friendly!" only for them to kill my friend after 30 seconds. I even gave them a can of food before they went flying around with axes! I've never mowed people down so quickly in my life! 3 months of not playing and I came back to that, a warm welcome lol. Refreshes my memory on friendly means hostile.

This is why I prefer to yell  "Hostile!  I'm Hostile!"   It's the most honest thing you can say to fellow survivors.

Emu:  If that's the best interaction you've had in a long time then you're missing out.  Maybe you should find a group/clan to roll with.  If you start searching for like minded players on the web, you'll find them.

See, I often consider people who write in chat to be more trustworthy. They have to stop in order to type. I used to type in chat but I find using the mic so much easier, especially if you're trying to get someone to not shoot.

"Get on the fucking ground and become motherfucking traveling buddy, motherfucker" has worked for me before.

I always say "friendly!" in hope that the other guy drops his guard and thus I will be the one that shoots first.

I'm gonna try to start screaming "Reasonable, Reasonable!"  Or maybe "Pizza, pizza."

I've been really busy lately, like only 25 hours in the past two weeks; and most of my old running mates have stopped playing.  I play with a couple dudes I met back on .57 exp, when everybody was picking apples and starving in ten minutes, but all they want to do is Bere/Elektro PVP, and I get bored of that fast.  Honestly, dude told me if we weren't both starving to death, and I had apples on stick, he'd have killed me just like any other stranger.

I actually more enjoy those encounters where we meet an part ways peacefully; like back in early .57 stable when I ran into another solo guy at ZG military coumpound, and told him that we could both walk away, even though I had a Sawn-off shotty in hand and raised when he came around the corner.

That being said, if anybody wants to group up with a reasonable and trustworthy roamer/hoarder with good navigational skills, I'll be trying to log some good hours these next few weeks.  Steam name is same as here, no caps.  I don't have my own TS server, but can use that as well as Skype; Steamchat also seems to be less crappy of late, as well.
