konnor83 0 Posted July 30, 2015 Hey all, I have been playing DayZ for a while but not consistently. Now that I have a machine capable of running it with decent graphics I started playing it more but I am getting killed usually within 30 mins by people even though I have hardly any gear.Is there any advice people can give me? When I'm prepared I can just about hold my own but when I just spawn it takes too long to get decent weapons....
SaveMeJebus 164 Posted July 30, 2015 Don't hang out on the coast .. spawn, search for a rock (so you can make a knife), and start running inland.
hooligun 39 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) the coast attracts 12yr olds, hackers and generally people that just want to kill on sight. stay away from it. head inland and play the game the way its meant to. to me inland pvp is way more fun. high risk, high reward.if you get killed up north, you can't run back in 5min and get all your gear back. vise versa, if you kill you have time to loot. plus, people up north have better loot anyway. Parazight 1599 Posted July 30, 2015 Don't try looting on high pop public servers, in the big cities. You're just asking to get murdered.

konnor83 0 Posted July 31, 2015 Cheers guys, I have to admit I have stayed on the coast line so I will head inland and see how that is.
therandomredstone 432 Posted July 31, 2015 Cheers guys, I have to admit I have stayed on the coast line so I will head inland and see how that is. Keep in mind, that although inland isn't as terrible as the coast, it still is a force to be reckoned with. Typically, anyone you see inland are more experienced than those you see on the coast. Most of the time, people will not hesitate to shoot you but that doesn't mean don't talk. Talking can go a long way.
Bonappetit 117 Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) Yesterday I went to check the coast, there was a huge deathmatch in Electro with around 10 players, some geared some not. Some would die and run back and try again, it was quite sad to be honest. I'll stick to inland again as the coast is cancer. I usually try and deal with squads who kill the fresh spawns but after I get one for example, other two will just camp it out until their friend comes and gets his gear back. Killawife 599 Posted July 31, 2015 Going inland usually means seeing no people until you get to the good spots and then get shot immediately. Good for gearing up but rather boring. What you need to do if you want to meet people and pvp is to avoid other players til you have a loaded gun. I can usually gear up decently in 30 minutes to an hour but its very dependent on the servers lifetime. If the server is recently restarted it goes fast but sometimes theres just nothing. Yesterday I went from Berezino to Elektro and every house along the way was empty. There was really nothing. Getting killed happens. A lot. Theres not much else to do than to hunt other players right now so be prepared to be at the end of it. I have a character die every night at least but it doesn't matter, Its the encounters that make the game what it is. Last week I had to go out for some air after an intense firefight as my heart was ponding so hard. I have never had that in any other game before.
konnor83 0 Posted August 5, 2015 Cheers guys, it has made a huge difference to my game and I have got some serious loot and weapons. Not encountering many people though and oddly I haven't seen a single Zombie?
Mookie (original) 799 Posted August 5, 2015 There are fewer Zs in this patch as the devs are investigating their effect on performance. They are also distributed differently - there are actually more at obscure north western locations than there are in mid-map towns. I'm UK based and usually play lone wolf, but you're very welcome to team up with me inland.

Senodog 96 Posted August 10, 2015 Only loot city like Elektro and Cherno fast and stay hidden if you get shot at just run up north people are more friendly up there. or play on low pop servers.
thatguyoverthar11 47 Posted August 12, 2015 Did an experiment on high pop servers today to see how often i was attacked/killed in player encounters. out of 6 encounters, i was attacked/killed each and every time. one of them being me standing completely still with no gun in hand. said "hey, yea i know what you're going to do." and i was correct. they shot me. no words or anything. This being said, Avoid all players like the plague. they're going to shoot you. Perhaps when weapons and ammo are more scarce bandit activity will die down a bit. Still good fun to be in combat. If you're on the coast, you will be shot. The further inland you are, the less this is so, IME, because people are better geared, playing in a more lone wolf way, and have more to lose in combat situations. QUAZIMOFO 275 Posted August 14, 2015 People will still kos inland, dont be fooled. I always stay off the coast and head inland, and I probably meet 1 friendly out of every 100 players I meet. The rest just start mindlessly shooting as soon as they see you like the mooks they are.
The_Real_MyDingaling 105 Posted August 23, 2015 As others have said, run inland from wherever you start. It won't take long to find food or weapons. There are plenty of each. You must learn the map so you can travel directly without using roads. It's quicker and safer. Until then, use roads and check town names. Use an off-line map (I used an iPad with a map on). To learn the game in terms of survival against the game rather than players, play on lowly populated servers. You'll get more loot quicker and there won't be other players to kill you. That's how I learnt it. When you have more confidence, practice with weapons against zombies form distances and melee fighting with them. Once you're confident with that, join servers with a few players. If you see someone with a weapon holstered, talk to them but with cover nearby. If they have a weapon out, hide or shoot them. That bit is up to you. Above all, practice makes perfect :D If you get lucky, an experienced player(s) will be nice and show you the ropes.
Roxx (DayZ) 0 Posted August 24, 2015 If I die here is what I do first. Normally you spawn in coach. Loot some food, run to Prigorodki, loot 12 burlap sacks, run to near Cap Colova and loot 5 nettings. Make full ghillie suit. First part done. Next run to Mogilevka and take car there. If you have not take in any other place. There is 16 car spawns. You can google them where they are. Drive to lopatino Heli crash. Take AUG and 2 magazines. You will find them pretty fast with server hopping. In this time you have found some cans. This take to me 30-60min. Im fully gear and almost invisible, If you like to kill people go a head and camp in grass. Not my style but someone can like it. You cant use backpack when using full ghillie suit. Best way is to go elektro and loot Smersh vest with backpack attached. There is 3 loot houses in elektro and one house have this set always. Have fun! :)
eno 1049 Posted August 24, 2015 (edited) If I die here is what I do first. Normally you spawn in coach. Loot some food, run to Prigorodki, loot 12 burlap sacks, run to near Cap Colova and loot 5 nettings. Make full ghillie suit. First part done. This is definitely a direct route to getting killed without question... And the ghillie doesn't work at all at ranges over about 100m... which is where most detection occurs. You're just a black blob on a tan surface overlay struggling to see through grass that doesn't actually render past that distance. His whole strategy takes you through some of the most KOS / PVP areas on the entire map so in general I'd disregard the entire post. I agree with most of the others suggesting a jaunt inland to some of those towns and have the crafting wiki in your back pocket. Find a water hole... find a well on one of the maps and go to it. Craft a stone knife so you can get into the abundance of canned food still out there. Try to find something warm so you're not constantly having to run and wear out your energy / hydration or at least learn how you can easily start a fire with some bark (cut off a tree) and a stick (cut off a tree)... There are burlap sacs in those longer wood sheds with the open door- along with rope needed to craft a carrier bag. This can be upgraded to a modified carrier bag with some sticks you can gather with your crafted knife. It's nice and low profile and has enough space to carry a few items. If you see someone with a gun out as mentioned I'd be beating cheeks the other direction. If you don't have anything in your hands you should be able to run just a little bit faster than the guy with the gun. If you're going to carry a weapon I recommend you choose one that you can hide in the pack. A sub gun or a sawed off shottie are popular choices... but the shottie practically needs to be stuck into a persons belly to have any effect. therandomredstone 432 Posted August 25, 2015 (edited) plz don't call someone a "Bandit" if they kill you. A true bandit is when someone actually cares about your life (and loot) enough to talk to you before pointing their gun in your face, and possibly giving you the chance to escape with your life. People on the coast play to be dicks - just for sport. Because once they die they can just keep doing it. As others have said; when you spawn, make an improvised knife and head inland immediately, Find your first town and pick apples until you're energized and hydrated. Loot the town then rinse and repeat. If you come across another survivor, let them know you're no threat and see how it plays out from there. You might die, you might get some good gear, or you might've just had a fantastic experience...but anything's better than being punched out by a bambi playing Mariah Carey.. When I started playing I had a really scary geared guy drop all his kit and let me take what I wanted as a reward for "not being a dick." These guys are out there- but you need you be very, very careful what you assume.
doctorbadsign 645 Posted August 25, 2015 The problem is that people are too coast fixated in DayZ. Everyone knows the coast is where you find people, so those who want to kill other players for fun will head to coastal towns meaning you are way more likely to get shot there. Most people that I have run in to inland have been friendly.
eno 1049 Posted August 25, 2015 Agreed. Bandits and murderers are different. Then again you could engage like a bandit and still have to kill someone.
