Can you sneak/make no sound when walking?

Recommended Posts

I wondered alot of when people can hear me and if there is a way to sneak up on people without they being able to hear my steps.

Rolling currently doesn't create any sound at all (unless they fixed it and I didn't notice)... Looks ridiculous but it's whisper quiet.

there was status report where they mentioned footwear was gonna have a difference on stealth at least with zeds. but hell if they can get footsteps to play as loud as a mouse fart stealth wise, some asshat with his super powered headphones made by nasa to hear life on other planets will hear you so in all you'll never be as quite as one would want.

I think they added rolling rounds.  Silent roll is Arma.

Crawling on your belly while toggling walk instead of run is iirc the quietest approach method.

Rolling is incredibly loud. I tried and learned the hard way.

Hmmm going to have to go check that out again... Must have been one of the many things they've fixed. Glad to "hear it," pardon the pun... I can stop looking over my shoulder expecting to see three dudes quietly logrolling up on me in ambush.

Yeah rolling makes a lot of noise for yourself at least.  Haven't tested if other players hear it, but I'd assume so.

In the mod that was the way to go though.

I'll be curious to see where this discussion goes. Will the people who want 3pp killed turn around and support silent footsteps? It's one thing to have "quieter" footsteps, it's another to approach someone in complete silence. I would find quiet footsteps ok, but not silent ones.

crouch and just keep tabbing "W" just for a nanosecond - it wont make a sound at all but you may look ridiculous. Also it's very slow.

There was a sound added to rolling some time ago, but it may have just been a first person sound. Not really sure.

I did try it out in 3pp and there is sound added to that. What I haven't tried out or at least noticed is if someone else is rolling if it makes a sound for you. I'm assuming so but... Going to have to try it tonight.

This is the best method I know of. Not really a viable method of sneaking around a whole house, but if you're in a room and need to silently get into a better position in the same room, it's a good idea.

I did this a few times when I think I'm alone in a town, but then see or hear someone outside. Hump my way behind a couch, gun up, catch the guy coming in, and initiate a "Hey hey, it's okay, I'm friendly" declaration. With me at the advantage.

Easiest way is to crouch and only move when they move. If they're unaware of you their own movement will cover your sounds.

The fastest way I know to sneak is...

Go to "crouch" position, press the "fast forward" key a nanosecond. Works fine.

yeah it really annoys me that there isn't a silent walk button or something mainly because i walk silently irl all the time. i practiced a walk that you kinda step on your heel and roll the rest of the foot down in a circle kinda way and it makes so little sound that the wind blowing covers it up. i walk up to people at work and ask them a question and they always get spooked and say i sneaked up on them but i just casually walked up to them. i have practiced the walk so much that's just how i walk, and i can walk pretty fast doing it now.
