Exp Update: 0.58 + Hot Fix.

Recommended Posts

DayZers must be kinder than I thought.

I was playing on one of the EXP servers earlier when one of my builders came and knocked on the door.  I got up, talked to him for about 15 minutes, then decided to walk the dogs.  A couple of miles later, I'm back, gonna feed the dogs.  Fed, kenneled, I decided to shower and go run some errands.  Came in here to my office to get my keys, and see DayZ is still up and I'm sitting in the street near the police station in Severograd.

Had to have been around 40-50 minutes, at least.  I'm alive and well.

Has anyone else noticed a change, with this very last update, regarding mouse acceleration?

Yes, it seemed a lot lower once when spawning but then seemed to fix itself. I thought it was just me.

Found an MP5 butt stock in a police car, nice to see you again...

Fore grips for AK's and MP5 still bugged, even if you manage to get a fore grip on to an AK74 by painting the original black to remove it you still can't put anything on it.

First aid kit and Ammo cans still bugged to 2x2 slots inside.

I don't think lootsplosions are done yet, give it a few restarts to see what's what with that.

Funny thing about this one... there was also a teddy bear very close to this mine with a piece of paper in it.  I thought no way, did someone actually leave a note, or warning?  Nah, just blank piece of paper and I didn't have a pen either..meh.

What on earth is fun about planting a landmine someplace and then logging out?  You have to overwatch the damn thing to derive any pleasure from it whatsoever.  Same when you poison food or water.  Not that I would ever do anything like that...

So are armed mines and bear traps persistent now or if nobody trips it in the 4 hours between restarts do they go poof?

Who wants to be the one to volunteer to step on every mine and trap they see?  :lol:

Look what we found!

EDIT:

Also, @Tux - I finally got a pair of walkie talkies together and Biohaze and I tested them out like you had asked me to last week. They seem to work pretty well, for what it's worth.

Not me, I try and jump up on a chair like the housewife in the old cartoons when she sees a mouse every time I see something round on the ground now.

Seriously is there any safe way to disarm or detonate mines from a distance?

For science yesterday I tried to see if you could hide a barrel in a swamp and if you manage to place it at swimming depth it de-spawns immediately.

The server we're on has restarted 3 or 4 times in the last 1.5 hours....

Some announced, some unannounced.

We probably lost our tentception.  *sigh*

I'm not sure what the trigger radius is for mines or traps, but I would assume that careful sneaking would allow you to get close enough to disarm. But is there even an option to disarm? Is anyone brave enough to find out? Bomb squad, assemble!

I don't think you can shoot them either, but to me it would make sense if you could.

I found a pair earlier, but they along with my single battery were swallowed by a drum. How is the range?

First non-friendly contact - had a couple of pot shots taken at me as I left a crash site near lapotino (could've been vavilovo infact not 100% sure) - also close to an overturned v3s on uk0-5. I'll be hunting you down when the server has restarted buddy.

We didn't test range of the walkies themselves, we just walked until direct chat faded away and then switched to walkies.

Your voice is played back through a radio filter, which is neat.

It's unlikely our tentception survived all the restarts, so the walkies are probably gone.

I would be interested to see if they will broadcast when switched on and placed on the ground.

You could use this to lure zombies or people away from an area and swoop in while they investigate.

When first introduced, land mines were pretty unstable when arming, so I haven't risked trying to disarm one for science. I have unintentionally gotten pretty close to several of them and I have received prompts to arm them. I've never seen a prompt to disarm. Perhaps I've just never had a close encounter with an armed mine? YMMV

That video I post a page back was me in front and my daughter in 3pp recording it. I was close enough I would have see the arming prompt and I crouch at the last second when I realize it's not duct tape with the hopes of getting a disarm prompt, all I got was "you are dead".

That is one of the things that I liked about State of Decay, which is sadly missing in this game - noise maker based distractions. They had loot items such as: a string of firecrackers, a mechanical alarm clock, a wind up kitchen timer and, etc. These items could be used to cause a distraction for the zeds, so that you could either make a quick egress, lure a group of zeds to their death, or employ other tactics.

Distracting infected with sound has been discussed i.e. tossing that left over tin can from your beans to draw infected but it hasn't been touched on in a long time, for what should be obvious reasons.

Sound based distractions would definitely add a nice extra dimension to infected/environment interaction.

The AK handguard rail will not affix to the AKM. The wooden handguard on the AKM will not detach.

2nqcfwo.jpg

AKM, AK74, MP5... Can't swap any handguard at all.

Maybe due to the fact that we're supposed to have random attachments, including mags with some ammo in them, spawn with the weapons eventually. We'll have the chance to find, let's say, an AK101 with a wooden handguard, plastic stock, Kashtan scope and a mag with 12 rounds left in it. Let's hope we get this in the next exp build, or maybe 0.59.

Has anyone visited the Barracks in Zelenogorsk and blown themselves up with a mine yet? :D

If not, be careful on SW US servers.

In that case, given how there are clear screws to both those additions and/or slip and shoot styled, I would hope that we would be able to affix these with the correct tools in the future/by hand.

Lootsplosions are gone, encountered a duplicating glitch, however, which I have confirmed through several servers to not just be a ghost variety.

Kill or be killed is the way I look at it. 99% of the encounters I've had so far on experimental ended up in me being wounded or dead. You give up the will to be nice to people when you get set up and sniped while talking with one guy or some that don't even want to talk and just shoot immediately.

You've been rather unlucky I have to say. I'D say I had 70% positive encounters on experimental. Meeting some survivors, doing a small party with them and hanging out for a nice play session. Encountering a survivor, having a small chat while exchanging some items and then going separate ways. Just some basic examples of some of my encounters in EXP, which seem to have been much less hostile than on stable, unless playing on a roleplay private server.

I've been killed at least 20 times on experimental, but that doesn't count as much since I've been opting in with every single experimental iterations there ever was.

Shoots brother, we were on the same UK server yesterday.  Just before you spawned in I had spawned into Msta to find myself being beaten to death by some dirt ball with a hockey stick.  Not a word was said by him or me, I tried to run but it was too late.  What DB.

On another note, the rail hand guards for the AK's still do not work properly.

I had seen you in the server, and was hoping to maybe encounter you, as I was a fresh spawn in Svetlo. But apart from that hostile encounter with the hopper (Don't even know his name as he left before I had time to check...  <_< ) I didn't encounter anyone else...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Swapping a mag in mid run seemed to despawn said mag. (It was in a clear area and not visible.) -As long as you have space in your inventory, pressing "r" to reload always works for me. Although since 0.56 the animations are now messed up and don't show the mag swapping right now.
"Show your love for tactical bacon with this stylish new hat!" -The hat always been in the game buddy.  ;)
I run with a group of people for the most part but sometimes I'm solo when no one is on. I did run into someone that was nice. It's those times where you are in a shed and you turn around and look and they are right near you heh so it's interact or get popped. Luckily he spoke to me and gave me a pistol light with a batter which was nice of him.
I just get tense when I see other people because they are unpredictable. The only way to know for sure if they won't shoot is if they don't have a weapon in their hand it seems. We rarely run into single people, lately it's been groups of 3 and 4 and a gunfight follows it.
Honestly if I'm alone, I want to be nice. I can't just smoke someone without reason. Another guy I ran into, he had a gun, didn't have time to interact. He aimed his rifle and shot me as I started saying whatsup .. I was like wtf man. I then took two shots at him and we both ran the opposite directions I guess. We were both probably startled but my first intentions is to communicate .. his was panic fire heh.
^^ This. It's a pretty big indication if the player is "hostile" (even if he's speaking) or want to try and do something fucky*...   ;)
I totally understands you man.
