freethink 984 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) I've always found that feedshacks especially are often left untouched. They generally don't spawn much good stuff and most are just too far out of the way for most people to bother. But I have to say, all of my small tools (hatchet, ice pick and field shovel), my hunting backpack, a bunch of rope, wire and food all came from those things. They're only worthwhile if you're a lone wolf who avoids the towns as much as possible though. But they are damned nice. Also a couple of the smaller houses too e.g. the red/green house with the two front doors, the brown and green houses that only have an upstairs etc. Edited May 20, 2015 by freethink
Santa fox 53 Posted May 20, 2015 I seriously have no idea how people manage to survive in 0.56, though, for now, I will just leave Experimental alone, as it is clear it is has some serious bugs that prevent gameplay and testing. Good luck to the remaining of ya, though, not sure how you lot manage.

Good luck to the remaining of ya, though, not sure how you lot manage. Not sure how you manage to do yourself in so many times bro lol , maybe you need to visit berry bushes and apple trees before you start to loot coastal towns that everyone knows are always dry of loot (Cherno, elektro, berezino, svet, novo) you also mentioned you suicide for these spawns .... Don't !! Believe it or not these are the worst spots to find loot , so please first things first align your back with the ocean , find a berry bush pick and eat 3-6 berrys , now walk (hold down shift) to the nearest inland town and then pick more berries (better than apples for hunger) and continue into the second most inland town .. You guessed it mate , pick more berries but this time , loot the town ! The only time I loot my starting area town is if I need a coat .Edit : Also find a well right away , and drink til you are hydrated (it slows the hunger process) do not drink from ponds or lakes unless you want sickness . This process of getting berries in every town you walk to , to be honest can take any where from ten to 45 minutes .. but as long as you pick 3-6 berries per town and don't bother looting any town until you reach two towns inland , you will be fine , you will usually be on hungry status but that's good enough to get to anywhere really as long as you keep berry picking first thing when you reach a town . Don't stop berry picking . Berrys . I'm gonna have a berry smoothie when I get home , And this time I'm going to the fucking grocery store instead of picking them . :) Edited May 20, 2015 by Grapefruit kush

As I mentioned, I have done this several times, i.e. hit trees/bushes along the coastline, then work my way inland. I have also done the exact opposite of this other times, and other times just randomized how I play. None of the times have I come out alive; This is solely due to starving to death and passing out/dying.
Excanto 336 Posted May 20, 2015 Finally found a truck, and its broken. Won't let me interact. Tried relogging, to no avail.Ya I have seen this on the last two trucks in the last two weeks. Nothing, no icons, nadda. I ran around like a mad ant. There was no way I was leaving that truck as I found it. I was gonna put a mine underneath it and blow myself and the truck up. Luckily as I ran around it and got close and further away and near the front and boom, suddenly it said open the hood. I did and closed it and ran around and moved my position a little bit at a time. Open door, get in truck, shut door, start engine!!! I guess it was just a little shy and didn't want to be driven until it got to know me and knew I was gonna blow it up if it didn't open. :-D

ebrim 998 Posted May 20, 2015 I'm tempted to suicide and see if I can survive. I have before. How long since the wipe? You can do it! :D Later today I'm going to run a set of tests. Picking apples and picking berries, how many I can get in 2 minutes over 5 trials each. I'll post my results. I'm inspired by all this "it's impossible for me not to starve" talk. GaryWalnuts 1680 Posted May 20, 2015 Thanks! That was really shady to me, cause I have died trying to ccrawl under a truck in previous patches. It did work though. Didn't even have to crawl all the way under. There's another a spot you can interact with the truck while still standing up. Approach the drivers side door from the rear of the truck and fuss around the rear cabin window, when that little 'close vent window' icon shows up you can then scroll wheel and open driver's side door.
galekast 70 Posted May 20, 2015 As I mentioned, I have done this several times, i.e. hit trees/bushes along the coastline, then work my way inland. I have also done the exact opposite of this other times, and other times just randomized how I play. None of the times have I come out alive; This is solely due to starving to death and passing out/dying. At the moment all is dependant on spawn position.. If I spawn in Berezinho or south of Svet I will run up the coast, go through the Svet docks and over the hill to the fishing village then on to the village way up in the NE.. There are a sh*t load of apple trees up there and 2-3 water pumps.. Plus barely anyone goes up there so you tend to be able to grab some decent loot too.. If I spawn further South then I tend to loot apples until I am fully hydrated and healthy (or at least to the point that I am not going hungry in 2 mins) then set off in land.. Yes the coast is normally picked clean, but the towns as you head in land generally have something.. Even if it means looting up slowly (as this game really should be) then just grabbing apples again until you are comfortable, thats just how it is... I quite like it.. Although I must admit, since the newest update I have had no trouble finding gear and food etc.. Just head to the guard house style buildings that you can not enter (2 on Berezinho docks, 1 on Svet docks).. They have an abundance of loot currently and I even found an SVD at one complete with scope.. Other than that, once I move away from the coast I have had no trouble finding enough food to keep me going, haven't had to kill any animals as of yet! GaryWalnuts 1680 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) On a side note, I tested "hoping" the same deer stand on 6 different server. Same item pattern. Various stages of damage. If that's the case then there should be a damaged hunting scope in this spoiler'd location on 1PP serversin the deerhut between Rog and Msta, approximately 115/106, except Central 0-2 1PP server where I've already claimed it for my trumpet :P Edited May 20, 2015 by GaryWalnuts

Given no new wipe when I get back from work tomorrow (in approx 15 hours) I'm going to suicide, respawn and see if I can survive. It should be very difficult. I think I'll record it. Not that it'll be an entertaining vid but just as evidence. Actually looking forward to this. Hopefully there's no wipe in the morning but I kind of suspect there will be. If you guys are playing tonight and do it then I'd love to see/hear how you got on. I wouldn't back myself too strongly but I think I've only died of starvation once in exp ever. Thing is I usually go the route of the road less travelled rather than fishing/hunting/berries/apples etc. Should be interesting. Feels a lot like The Long Dark Dayz. IMT 3190 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) Anyone of you guys put a military tent at Nadezhdino on DayZ DE 0-2? I wanna thank the person who left the farming hoe in there which made it possible for me to dig up some worms. I took the blue press vest but left a hunting scope and some other stuff. As a big thank you for the farming hoe, I will put some cooked fish in there tommorow. :) Feel free guys to take some fish but leave some for the others. This will bring up the other options and save you shitloads of running around like a goofball. I find standing 45 degrees to the rear of the drivers door works quite nicely Edited May 20, 2015 by Barnabus
BleedoutBill 1636 Posted May 20, 2015 Once again, I cannot get to any of these trees and/or bushes, until I am at the point of being at least hungry. I have played DayZ since it was released, and I have never had any trouble finding food, be it in Experimental or Stable, only in this version. So, I am curious, how I can find food, when picking trees/bushes for berries and apples is not enough, and I cannot find any other source of food? You can't. It's that simple. Unless you are incredibly lucky, you MUST rely on apples, berries, fishing, hunting and etc. or you WILL die. If you can't figure out how to make apples and berries work you you, then perhaps you need to dig for worms and give that a try. Bottom line: There is not enough prepackaged food to get you through the initial stages of the game. You MUST find supplements, in order to get your character established. There are no shortcuts.
BleedoutBill 1636 Posted May 20, 2015 I don't quite see how you could possibly be completely unable to prevent yourself from starving picking apple trees. It takes 15 apples to go from 0 energy (where you're literally dying of hunger) to neutral. When initially starting out, I will generally pick 12-18 apples, depending on how far away the next town is. If I have a pack, or a courier bag, I'll also throw a couple of apples in there, just in case. Yes, it's time consuming, but at the end of the day, starving repeatedly and re-spawning is like masturbation without a happy ending.
BleedoutBill 1636 Posted May 20, 2015 ... we NEVER sprinted unless chased by another player (didn't happen yet but that's our rule). ^ This - very important!
BleedoutBill 1636 Posted May 20, 2015 Well, then my only conclusion is that the devs have by mistake created the first real A.I. capable of feeling emotion and it has expressed that emotion by deciding to hate you and punishing you at every turn while leaving the rest of us unmolested. :( I'd suggest uninstalling before the A.I. takes control of the heat in your home or learns to use the phone to call a hit squad. Good luck friend and stay safe.
Deathlove 2286 Posted May 20, 2015 (edited) My character is doing much better these past few rounds. Been finding allot more gear as well as food. I did however hunt a cow when the AI was briefly back in for the week. Got some cow steaks still incase things get really bad again. Also instead of an axe i decided to make a fishing pole which i plan to use for emergency purposes as well. I was finally able to find an AKM and an AK 74 but they were in some of the weirdest places. One was right behind the dumpster on the side of one of the jails. But i only kept the AK 74 my other main is going to be the Winchester 70. Anyways here is a pic of how my character is doing. Im also REALLY enjoying the boot slot for the combat knife to. Saves you so much slot space for much possible much needed extra item or food. :) Edited May 20, 2015 by Deathlove
Excanto 336 Posted May 20, 2015 Does driving the truck out to prison island still work? I've tried pushing that poor truck to it's limit's. Zooming off the map was a mistake. I sank under the ground a couple feet and slide down the hill like I was in a land slide. I drove the truck into the water when I was kinda bored and it went and went, so I kept going and pulled up on the small strip of land off the shore of prison island. Looted and drove back. I think I had zombies in the back at the time. Last night I was on the north tracks and heading over a bridge overpass and it fell through and flipped about 6 times and righted itself and I went through the trees and bypassed the bridge. There were no zombies last night. I drove up to nw airfield and parked near the chopper crash and found a ump45 and a pristine scope for it, no mags. Oh and I was in the tent area and in the domed barracks where I usually find the military tent and I found an ammo box under a bunk, 3/4 submerged under the floor. After a long long run and drive, I only had a trumpet to shoot. Fire station at the nw airfield had only fire helmets and axes mostly.

Someone reported that the devs dug an underwater moat around the island, so it's no longer possible to drive there. You'd think that it'd be easier to have the truck's engine stall once it went in the water, but I guess they know best.
