Exp Update: 0.56.127TheBeast.

Also, does anybody have info on how V3S's are going to work now? I've had a couple wrecked already (as in, one flipped entirely and unrecoverable and another flipped onto its side, requiring another V3S to tip it back over). Will these disappear eventually and spawn in again, or not? Because having as few V3S's on the server as we have currently, with all of them completely persistent, it's going to become very difficult to find new ones once we hit stable and no longer have the regular wipes (just weekly). People will just hide them off in the corners of the map.

The plan is to have the V3S de-spawn once it is damaged to the point that it can not be repaired. Once the V3S population reaches the minimum quantity allowed, the CLE will spawn another one.

Since the CLE is in its infancy and since we can not yet effect repairs, I would only be guessing as to what would happen, if you were to wreck one today.

So, am I missing something, or are we supposed to not find any food at all? Been playing for a few hours now, and all I find is either tools or wool coats. I have found two cans of food in my several hours of playing Exp, along with several server crashes. But absolutely no food.

There are apple trees on the SW corner of Guglovo. Sorry, best I can do on short notice.

Good luck!

Well, I know there are definitely ashwoods on the north side of Stary Sobor. I'm pretty sure there are some in Moglievka too but that's a bit our of your way. I think there may well be an ashwood desert between them, there are very few ashwoods in the center of the map I've noticed.

I'm confused: you said you found cans of food but you're saying you can't find any food?

Where abouts are you? Up in the NW area, food is pretty abundant. Got four cans of peaches, six tactical bacon, a tin of beans, a tin of spaghetti and a box of cereal in my inventory right now. Found more rice in the last two days than ever before (a bag a day) and have had no issues since getting north. Pretty consistent between different servers, too. Been consistently light green energized and fully hydrated (I've found 4 PET bottles and 2 Canteens - threw away the canteens for inventory space, as it was overkill).

Main issue for me has been ammo... Well, good ammo, that is. Found plenty of .22, .308 (for which I have no guns and haven't seen a single gun that accepts it), some 9mm, a couple shotgun shells, 5.56 mm ammo but nothing for my CR527 or Magnum. :(

If you're confused with the implication that two cans of food, found over several hours, is not enough to sustain a character, and thusly is not proper food in the sense that you can survive, I am not sure what to tell you.

Been running from the coast, taking both the bottom and top right paths up to NWAF, and found nothing. Just had one of my characters die at Vybor, due to no food, and having ran with BW screen and "Starving" for several hours.

As per the ammo: .357 I haven't had too hard a time finding but that 7.62x39 can be tricky. Your only option here actually seems to be military spawns at destroyed military vehicles as was told to me earlier. Considering how it is used in what should be slightly more common hunting rifles (IZH 18 and CR527) I hope it's made less military in the future.

Towns to the west around to the northeast of NWAF have all been awesome for me. I'd suggest going further than that.

good places for ammo are those green watchtowers around military installations, they are plentyfull and i found my most ammo on them

Been trying to progress further, but I always die to a lack of food. Oh well, suppose i'll give it a 15th attempt.

I don't make the assumption that one should live only off of cans of food and wasn't sure that you were making that assumption. My advice to you is pretty simple: don't rely only on canned foods/dried goods for energy unless you plan on spending a lot of time in the remote parts of the map. Use it as a energy source but not your only one.

I have not found a single AI controlled character, nor am I able to grow food. I can not kill players, either, nor can I pick enough apples before I die from starvation.

A few things you can try based upon what I do (I don't eat anything I don't forage/grow/catch so this is possible):

-Don't sprint everywhere.

-Don't even try to loot in spawn locations, turn your back to the sea and move inland.

-Even past the coast, don't waste time "looting towns" until you start to see clear evidence that lots of people haven't already been through. Your time will be spent more efficiently further from the coast.

-Use berries/apples to stay alive but don't waste time trying to get energized, just don't be too hungry.*

-Make sure you have an improvised knife, a book and a bit of oak bark in your jeans. Carry an ashwood stick on your back. This will expand your options dramatically (heat/harvesting/etc.)

Once you get far enough inland, you'll start finding things that will make life easier for you. To be clear, this isn't the right way to play or the best way to play or whatever, it's just how I play and it works even with my more challenging self-restraint.

*EDIT: In case you're interested: I advise this because you never know what's around the next corner. You absolutely could spend a half hour searching berries if you wanted but if in the next place I look I find a metal wire and can then get a rabbit, or just happen across a chicken (happens often) that's a far more effective source of energy. Foragables are not an efficient way to stay alive, they are dependable however, so I use them when I start to get too hungry.

Heat I have not had any real trouble with, and as I cannot harvest or grow anything, there is no point for that. Mainly been picking a few apples at random locations, then sprinting over to the closest town and repeating, however, I always end up dying to starvation <1 hour.

Is amazing how different the experience is for someone who gets on the freshly updated servers and those who arrive the the days after. I was on early. The only thing I'm missing is a scope. I've even thrown food away (a sin!) and haven't picked an apple or berry. But if I died and respawned today, I'd probably struggle to get out of the spawn points and to somewhere with loot left.

Never, ever throw food away. Your body has a maximum of 20.000 kcal. If you find food, don't keep in the in the backpack and don't leave it there. Just eat the food and add it to your buffer. Unless you're stuffed of course, then you need to take the food with you. After you're not stuffed anymore you can eat it.

I've found 7.62x39 in stripper clips, 10 rounds at a time, mostly in industrial areas.

Probably because you are sprinting, which heats you up and it heats you up by burning those precious calories faster which without a good source of food is why you starve. If you aren't sprinting and you're just wearing a t-shirt, I've found that cold does become an issue. Not too much of an issue though because so long as you have the oak bark you're only a stick away from a fire.

Remember to think of everything as a trade (I may or may not be married to an economist with an economics major myself):

Foraging is trading time for calories.

Sprinting saves you time but costs calories..

Sprinting keeps you warm but costs calories. (you can see here that if you are calorie-poor, as most newspawns are, trading calories too frivolously is a bad idea)

Jogging keeps you less warm, costs less calories but you're spending some amount of time.

Keeping bark in your jeans costs you one inventory slot.

etc.

Make strategically sound trades and you'll do well.

Yep generally good advice but I was stuffed and changing to a smaller backpack. I left food in the larger backpack. Also I'm in a low traffic area where food is quite plentiful. I even found a 30 round mag for a mp5k earlier. And a goat and heard but didn't see a chicken. There's no way I'm going to starve before exp gets wiped or there's some sort of update to the cle.

You know it's super easy to start a fire and cook without matches now right? It's my new favorite thing cooking Berizio beef steaks.

I lold about the wool coats though, it took me from Svetlo to Kranostav to find a damn coat yesterday and I was saying "I'd even settle for a red wool coat right now" then I found a black m65.

Open doors don't mean shit, they have a random state (open/closed) depending on the server they reset to every restart as far as I can tell. I've shut myself in a room before a reset and it was open even though I'm the first person on after.

I usually find matches pretty fast, but no I haven't heard anything about starting a fire with nothing but a stone knife? Cooking without tripod and pot and water and tons of wood? Most of the people talking about how to cook explain it like this, make a fire and cook dat stuff boyeee, ya just like dat. Last time I tried to cook I had a ton of gear for cooking and and the wood burnt up in 20 seconds, fire went out even though I put in more wood, meat only changed color once after 30 minutes of cooking and still said raw.

I don't understand this. If you're literally just standing still picking apples, it takes like 10 minutes to become cold. That's more than enough time to pick enough apples to get you to neutral. If you're starving, it's because you're overexerting yourself without consuming enough first. If you die while picking apples, then you must have been starving before you started picking because otherwise you're not burning enough calories to offset the speed at which you can pick and consume apples. The chance rate for apples sucks and yes it can take time, but when it's your only option you just have to be patient and work with it. Get yourself to at least neutral before you take off running anywhere and you should be fine. What you can't do is wait until you're already on the brink of death and start picking; that's too late to do any good.

Cooking guide! (exp 0.56)

Unless you are cooking for many people or are cooking a lot of things (and also to keep this easy) this cooking guide is for an ashwood stick:

1) Make an improvised knife/find a knife.

2) Use that knife on an ashwood tree to get an ashwood stick which is too large for most backpacks and must be kept in your melee weapon shoulder spot or just carry it in your hands.

3) Gather six sticks. This is enough fuel to cook any one piece of meat and probably two or three.

4) Use one stick + kindling (paper/rags/birch bark) to make your fireplace.

5) Add the other sticks to the first stick before igniting, you should then have a stack of five sticks. DO NOT PUT THE STICKS IN THE FIRE. That is the fire has inventory slots like a backpack, your fuel should not be there, stuff there will just get ruined. Rather the fire has inbuilt "slots" sort of like how a boonie hat carries a fishing hook but has no inventory slots like a backpack. I hope that makes sense. Think of the fuel as an attachment to the fire, just like you'd attach a scope to a rifle.

6) Ignite your fire. (use matches/use improvised drill created by combining one stick and one piece of oak bark)

7) Place your desired piece of meat/food item on the ashwood stick in your hands.

8) Orient yourself toward the fire with the ashwood stick in your hands, you'll get an option to direct the stick toward the fire, do that.

9) Cooking a piece of meat I find takes about 2 or 3 sticks worth of fuel time, a couple of minutes at most*. The name of the cooked item will likely not change but its color will. Usually the first change of color is enough for it to be safe and in fact later stages may be harmful.

10) Eat and enjoy. :D

*I can easily cook an entire fish (two fillets) with 5 sticks.

You need a stone knife and the ability to identify an oak tree, someone posted a video on sunday in this thread from wobo for me. Dark green leaves corduroy looking bark, you need 2 pieces of bark removed with the knife. I just use sticks for fuel so I don't have to carry an axe, lots of sticks. Combine 1 piece of bark and a stick to make a fireplace, combine more sticks to the stick in the fireplace up to five. With two horizontal slots in your inventory free combine one stick and the other piece of bark to make a hand drill, put it in your hands and ignite the fire like you would with matches.

To cook you need an ashwood stick, there's ashwood trees and another tree that looks like it too so that can be a little hard. It takes your shoulder melee slot but melee is for cavemen lol. Put the stick in you hands,  drag the meat to the stick, stand facing the fire and you get a prompt to "point stick towards fire" or something. Do that and wait about 30 seconds until the meat changes colour, if you feel comfortable enough doing it with your inventory open you can drag meat off and fresh ones on while adding sticks to the fire as needed.

**Thanks Ebrim, your version is a little easier to follow ;)**

By the way, do farms persist over server restarts now? I remember Eugen saying that in .56 they'd be persistent. Perhaps some of you well geared and bored do-gooders should start farms down south for the starving freshspawns.

I'm thinking of trading food for blood with freshspawns. Dunno what I need the blood for as I'm lone-wolfing atm, but well, It's always nice to have some blood.
