It was a tale of two games for me yesterday. When I was on in the morning I found a bit of loot everywhere with some places being empty. At night, it was basically ZERO useful items for 2-3 hours until finally we hit a "hot zone" up north. So I got a taste of what other people were describing before with finding no loot. I could only find helmets and jackets pretty much for the longest time. If I was lucky I'd find one can of soda.

I think there is probably something missing with how the loot disperses across the map when it spawns. Related to that, there are too many items piling on top of each other and not allowing you to see everything there. What looks like a coat is sometimes a bunch of items and it doesn't tell you they're there. Either the spawn points should only have one item (no stacking), or it should show you everything there when you're close. I think it would be silly to have to individually move items out of the way given that's not as simple as just throwing an item aside. This is especially true when there are tons of items on top of each other.

I have to play more to really gauge how I feel about the update and what I personally think it missing or perfect. It was frustrating having to stop in cities and spend tons of time picking apples because there was nothing else to eat. It took a lot of time and took a lot of fun out of the game. That being said, here's how I imagine the progression:

Stage 1: foraging because you're not finding much. Taking a TON of time to find some tools for hunting/horticulture

Stage 2: Starting to live off the land a little more. Establishing a healthy status with surplus food and drink.

Stage 3: Heavy gathering and hoarding of food through these methods, plus what you inevitably collect over time in the form of canned goods. Building a camp with these things.

Stage 4: Vehicle acquisition (which will be pretty developed at some point). This will include cars, trucks, helicopters. It will be difficult because they will be adding a system where you need to repair and maintain them.

Stage 5: Mastery of the environment to the point that you can roam around trying to meet people and get yourself in crazy situations. You have enough food and drink to move around the map fairly freely. You can get to different points faster because of vehicles. And if you die you have a camp established so it doesn't take as long to recover.

The hard part will be balancing out how long it should take to move through these stages. It can be pretty grueling to start. Basically stage 5 takes a lot of work. They may have made starting over frustrating enough that you aren't as aggressive with people. It will take a while for the aggressive mentality to slow down as people that are highly aggressive will have to come up on the losing end a few times before they decide to shift their strategy a little bit. Of course there's the flip side where you may be fairly certain you can come out on top and want to kill players for their loot. The point is there should be a little more thought to it now, which is cool.

How can you feel nervous or fear if survival is freaking easy in this game? I'm not interested in survive against players until the environment is hard enough. I don't really care if I lose my character on some KoSser, I just wonder everytime what was in his/her mind when he/she just decided to kill me, because everytime I've seen no other reason than just kill for nothing. When there's a reason to kill I can understand but currently in the game there's no other reason than the other was shooting at you or s/he insulting you through direct chat to do whatever to your mother.

Well you should think seriously that means multiplayer game and everything else is secondary (this good you improve the AI of the zombies and animals and improve distribution of loot) but you can not say that the upgrade is fine because the zombies are ninja and are OP and the loot is broken completely pointless (I find nothing in helicrash and yet in a latrine fin ammuniton clips  and military clothes and more) before it made sense to go to military bases to equip but now if they are empty the can remove the map not to mention the persistence...

Stage 3 is borked right now, I'd like to be playing instead of sitting here waiting for news on tents and backpacks not disappearing.

LMAO. I haven't lost a character or any kind of stuff during the last 2 updates so don't write shit. Also I have more than 1300 hours on DayZ so don't tell me how the game should be played. I'm saying that this update broke the game and that I have no intention to play until the next one. That's how it is.

well, I never told you how to play. and, there's a difference between an update and a character wipe.

aren't you a special little snow flake.

you should add reading comprehension to your list of awesome personality traits though... I mean, it would hurt.

Yeah, I was going to edit the post to acknowledge that but just decided not to. You're right about it being borked, but that won't last. I've found a couple tents and really wanted to grab them but from what I understand it's just not worth it yet.

I can't imagine myself dying too many times before I decide to take a break at this point. Starting off again really is annoying. I need to feel like I can make progress through those theoretical stages if I am to push myself through the start... then again, my first character yesterday did pretty well pretty fast. I was finding loot in a lot of different areas. Second character (after I was killed by a mean man/woman with an SKS) took AGES to find anything. It was apple picking simulator for a long time haha.

I'm absolutely pissed about it actually I've got 2 1/2 days left of my long weekend and as much fun as as it is hanging out here spitting venom I'd rater be playing. If I can't start stashing stuff it's just an unnecessary risk with no reward walking around.

To anyone who still think the current broken loot table is forced and shouldn't be etc.etc.etc.

Please avoid games still being developed.

Official statement. :"To be clear, we need to go live with new features as soon as possible. No way to test/get data in such large scale in closed environment."

Now all of us who understands that, I find it interesting to see all the different phases the game goes through, and right now the current loot spawns, although temporary, looks like time passed on and hot spots have already been looted. It's like we just came out of 15 years of "dayZ mod" apocalypse and everyone crashed or stalled their vehicles, and left what they couldn't carry with them lying around the wreckage. Currently the vehicles can spawn pretty good things.

Also, the way some civilian houses have varied items all in the same corner, like a survivor barricaded himself there to make a last stand. It's pretty immersive for me, and like it a lot. Better enjoy it while I still can!

How are people not finding food? I've zero problems finding plenty to eat and drink!...

And those little buildings with the little like porches and iron bars on windows that never ever had any loot? bejesus christ they're stuffed with military loots, AK parts, scopes, ammo, nades lmao they're my new must loot spot! :D

I say it again, love the loot distribution, Zed AI and generally all around and as Odin Lowe says I'm enjoying it while I can! (please don't change it!)

The loot is sporadic it seems. Played for about 4 hours finding lots, then played for another 4 hours and found almost nothing useful. Had to spend tons of time foraging to get food.

So is it safe to put down my tent or not? Will it be saved after the restart?

Has anyone noticed if you have a weapon in your hand then right click on food or water to consume, it drops the weapon but does not complete the eating or drinking action. You have to initiate the action a second time to complete.

In 20 hrs (2 days) of playing  haven’t seen a single piece of spawned fruit, box of matches or tripod. I’ve seen 1 pot but left it because I don’t cook, found 1 of each sewing kit but haven’t seen any others and not a drop of rain.

Someone suggested eating worms, doesn't that make you sick?

As I said before I don’t cook but must you have a pot to cook meat?  Can’t you just throw it in the fire?

I’m not a heavy gamer, in fact DayZ SA is the only game I have and I'm really digging on it, but I’d like to try playing some of the private servers. Can anyone tell me how I go about getting access to any of these and what does HIVE refer to?

if its not locked, you can join any private server that isn't whitelisted. it's just like any other server, but your guy can't transfer from one private server to the next, each guy is saved to that particular server.

i also haven't found any fruit laying around or matches. i've also not found any ammo but shotgun and .22

as for the drinking. i got that alot in .54 but haven't had a chance in .55 since i never have a weapon out since i have no ammo for my blaze lol

 What is Whitelisted?

I'm finding tons of 308 ammo, quite a few boxes of 12 gage, 22, X39mm, 357 and a couple 9mm. only guns I've found has been 22 and AK74, so I'm fighting with my trumpet. All my backpack spaces are taken up by useless ammo in the hopes I'll find a nice weapon or some 5.45. Think I need to migrate to the other side of the map.

I collected 15 or so rags, went to a remote location, dropped one on the ground, logged off and went to another server. Dropped a single rag in the same location, logged off and went to another server. Rinse and repeat until I’m out of rags.  Play my other character for about 6 hrs and then go back and check on all my rags. Only one remained and I think it was because that server didn’t restart. So to those asking, persistence is still not enabled. DON’T DROP YOUR $HEIOT if you want to keep it.

I’ve been doing a lot of zombie watching and I’ve noticed that when you’re within a certain distance they tend to wonder towards your location. I have lain in open fields, behind buildings and in the woods motionless for long periods of time and zombies slowly but surely end up right next to me. I don’t know the distance that this begins to happen but the furthest I’ve witnessed this was about 50 meters or so. If it was all just a coincidence it’s happened about 8 of 10 times I tested it.

I also don’t understand how a headshot with a 22 will instantly drop an unsuspecting zombie but a shot to the head with the same gun while they are charging does not drop them. It takes two. I tried this 8 or 9 times with the same results. Ruined many jackets.

I dropped a tent in front of a zombie, climbed in and closed the flap to see what would happen, bad idea. Zombies clip straight through tents like they weren’t even there. She walked in and spanked me like I deserved.

I can't take this anymore. I sure hope that they fix this game by wednesday.
And by fix, I mean the sounds and the loot!
I'm tired of masturbating in front of a tree for hours, in hope of an apple, so I don't starve to death in the next 10-15 minutes!
And nice job on those zombies. They are terrific. Not even once have I heard a zombie.
I've had 5 zombies running behind me, but none of them made any sounds.
No growling, footsteps, nothing.
I can hear when they hit me, but I can also see that, so wtf?

Common loot looks to be rare now, and rare common.

It's nice to have enough weapons and military gear for a whole army, but can't find a single can of food.
This just makes people server hop more often. All these things just take the immersion out of the game.

I would gladly do a suicide 20 times in the row, if that would get me a pack of matches!

Are rags even supposed to be persistent? As far as I know just weapons, backpacks, and tents are intended to stick around for an extended amount of time. Might be a few other items on that list.

Everything except modded environment type things (deployed snare traps, etc.) is persistent. Just some things persist longer than others.

I'll try the same experiment tonight with improvised back packs. It wont be 15 but I should be able to do 8 or so. More to come.

whitelisted is when you go to the server's website and apply to be allowed in to their server. its basically a security measure to ensure most people that play on that server agree to the rules of the server and are what the server looks for (role playing types, good/friendly people, non- kos'ers, etc)

Did you by any chance try that in a building? You also get that message when you try matches in a building ... you know without fully operational fire departments, and there are no fireman any more, it is just to dangerous to play around with fire. What will you do if an unsuspecting bystanding zed accidently burns his fingers?

oddly enough it was outside... but very close to a well....

tried it today and it worked.... money.

I'm sure it's been said but cabin doors at the camps use backwards audio.

3 zeds chased me out of the camp to a brief incline which apparently lined 4 hits in close proximity up on my boots ruining them instantly.

Finding boots took a while which prolonged healing and made for some tense looting.

Later I found a RAK.

Had a couple mags because I heard they were easy to find but never stockpiled the boxes I found.... just have to search more toilets and orange 2 story houses.

A mag can seemingly disappear and reappear while attached showing the gun as empty which made me think I dropped the mag accidentally.

An orange truck was a welcome find.

Found the NWA mostly untouched and scoured the vehicles, sentry posts, and crows nests, not finding a whole lot.

When searching toilets try to throw smaller items in the clothing items if there, to uncover loot underneath.

I found ammo and food I needed this way a couple times.

Aggroing an infected at great distance when it cannot hear the shots and find you is pretty funny to watch btw.
