Look, I was a teenager too. I understand, you have to rage, taunt, or try out that new cuss word you heard at the bus stop. For a 16 year old, there is nothing more fun than beating an AFK player with a sledgehammer while yelling "pussy" at him through your parents microphone. Or saying you are "friendly" then whipping out an axe and killing those you were able to temporarily befriend. It sort of makes me chuckle, even if I am the one dead.

 

Now I am 30+ years old, and every time I KOS someone in this game I realize that there is a 90% chance I am killing one of you jerks. Therefore, I will continue to KOS until we can find a way to better define who a bandit is, who is a jerkoff is, who a hero is, who a reasonable person who says "I'm friendly" is. Odds are in my favor. This game introduces an interesting dynamic with interpersonal communications where we can't really determine that. Needless to say, I will continue to KOS people w/ my AK101 but if things were different I'd probably offer you can of beans.

 

If anyone can point me in the direction to where the most dickheads hang out, then I'll go handle business over there.

Most of them hang around the coastal cities preying on new spawns. As a comment i see little difference to their playstyle and someone who just kills on sight, also not sure if it is fair to lump them all together.

Last time I got jumped, beat up and killed, it was by 4 or 5 guys with definitely around 25-30 year old voices - not  'kids' voices - and the things they were saying were  what you hear in iinner-city Saturday night broken-bottle and and steel-toecap fighting insults (guess you know what I mean?), the kinds of scenes they mainly cut out when they put the film on TV, ya know.. ultra-violence and ultra-obscene language... but NOT kids..

On the other hand I met a female player who spoke English very well (really VERY well for someone that young), told me she was Romanian, was 15 years old - and we had a  conversation about Europe in general. Was interesting. I'm really convinced she was not a fake at all. So - 'kids' - it kind of depends. I can see your point OP, treetop82, but it's not always the case.

 

I might be wrong, but I get the impression it is players in the 18-22 range who have the widest style of play.. maybe student age?...

And I've noticed there are also a lot of players who are 30+ - that's cool. But if you are 1-shot unexpectedly when you were damn sure there was no one around, its quite likely to be an adult who stalked you IMO, especially if you are away from the hot areas.

 

My attitude is: Just treat the psychopath kids as if they were NPCs of exactly the kind that might turn up in any game. ..OK, so what's next, hey here comes a bunch of psychos with guns.. everyone knows about those.  Act like it's just a different kind of zombie, it's just more NPCs -  they show up sometimes. Their AI isn't very good, but its fairly interesting.

 

Don't they all live in the NE ?

Most of the ones that KOS me sound in there 20's to early 30's.  I am 42 and I have ran in to a many friendly children (I say children cause these are my children's ages) from 12 yo to 18 yo.  I find that you saying the ones yelling "pussy" or like another poster said "Get Rekt'd Son" are teenagers is misguided at best. I agree there are kids that do this but there are also a great many adults as well. Also If I run across another player where I roam  NWAF and they have a firearm out I will KOS them if they only have melee or nothing I will engage them in conversation.  But if i kill someone I just do not say aanything whats the point?  Maybe you should try this KOS playstyle only kill those who are an imment threat.  I have made several friends this waay. (the ones who did not have a firearm out)

God dammit, i dont. I honestly dont remember raging so much as kids do nowdays. Actualy, whenever i raged, that rage was pointed towards my own mistakes, not being pissed at someone elses skill level. Or being such an ass****. I guess there's a huge lack of sportsmanship these days.There used to be days when hearing a "nice shot" from your enemy was more common than  "noob cheater lucker whatever" reply. But ya, what can you do? Avoid squeekers. Most of them got brought here by watching staged "epic deception videos" on YT so they're here for "epic trolling" aka being douchebags.

 

I only made the mistake once and god, i dont want to hear that squeaking annoying voice in my death screen ever again.So i feel ya. Only difference is that instead of KOSing everyone i started applying for whitelisted servers and my experience is only getting better and better. No random psychopaths who think making retarded animal screams in a mic makes the game interesting for me, no more squeakers allot less KOS and you get server events. awesome.

 

If you wanna become professional squeak hunter, cherno to berezino area is the place.

I am a teen. I do not play like that. I spawn, get some clothes and a backpack, head inland, get military gear, then continue to go around and play the game. I have not killed someone who did not want to kill me. I do not cuss at others if they have done nothing. Those 'teens' that do what you claim them to do, are the kids that get the crap beat out of them at school for acting like a know-it-all douche. If you are a 30 year old man, you should have enough sense to not let those people get you. Imagine how many people you have killed that were the complete opposite of these 'teens'. Just head inland where all the big boys go, and be more rational on your kills. Before someone sends you back to the coast.

The other aspect I haven't seen mentioned yet is the fact that most of these ingrates are showboating while recording their gameplay- piling as much macho BS into the microphone as they can to put it on display on YouTube before mum tells them to go to bed. 

 

I watch these youtube videos and a lot THE MOST annoying idiots are at least late teens to early 20s. The screeching, mouthy jagoffs who will. Not. Shut. Up. I heard one call another guy a "S#@t pooper." Good grief. And THIS was the one that got chosen to broadcast to the world?

 

It's like kids drinking- getting alcohol poisoning is practically a right of passage within a peer group... so naturally overdoing everything is pretty much just the way it is. 

 

I play DayZ with my step son and he's quite young and takes the game seriously. He enjoys the interactions but is fearful of them in general since we've both been dealt some pretty ugly hands in our experience. He gets pretty scared as the population starts to head towards 20 and it's that intensity that we both enjoy. 

 

However- to have some moron come up to us while we're in the middle of growing a pumpkin patch with our lime and shovels laying all over the place and executing us wholesale under the pretense that we were a threat to them and THEN boasting about how we got "rekt..." in girlie war cries?  

 

Get $#$%^ed. 

 

I'm with you OP. This isn't about KoS- I can manage that and people do it for their own reasons that aren't for debate here. It's about playing with a little dignity. Unfortunately the people who could use the life lesson either aren't reading this or are just warming up their keyboards for a brilliant retort.
