DayZ 2015 roadmap

Recommended Posts

Hmm beta before end of next year would be bootylicious, but it would need some luck I guess.

Anyway things are moving, sometimes slower, sometimes faster, but they are moving indeed.

A bit sad that Rocket made drama and deleted Reddit account, but maybe that is a part of his detachment from DayZ development.

I'm starting to understand what he ment by saying, that in certain phase of DayZ development, he could do more harm then good to the project.

If devs managed outlined stuff from 2015 Q1 and if the new renderer brings better client FPS, I will be very happy and DayZ will become a lot more playable.

As the new renderer should be some sort of crossplatform thing (remember ,DayZ will come to PS4 as well) i guess we should have slightly better performance on the new renderer. But time will tell.

I personally hope for quick fixes in the inventory and loot system, as there are many small flaws currently (things like items disappearing if you drop them on the floor). Also, working wells would be great as dehydration comes way faster to the people now.

I just wonder what does "Character life span + soft skills" means...

yes, thats a good question.

I didnt expect the "new renderer" will be implemented so fast ( I thought earliest Q4 2015) but these are very good news.

thx devs! :beans:

Soft skills by this i believe( its often used as another term for passive) is having skills that go up in the background in non core areas ( eg no combat skills ) I say this as Rocket mentioned many many months ago doing skills for things like sewing (more you sew the better you get the worse the item damage can be , that you can repair and the better the end result of the repair.

I actually think this game needs stuff like this to add value to characters and i am hoping they do a few passive/soft skills with maybe the closest to a core skill being a fitness skill (you dont get to see what your skill is in a passive skill) eg the more you run and the better your diet is the longer your character will be able to run.(this would need to be coupled with a strict stamina weight system)

I could be wrong but Rocket DID mention bringing in skills like this and i have heard passive skills called soft skills when they relate to non core mechanics.

No idea on the life span though .

Hicks was posting about this on Reddit. He called it something like, "A project close to my heart." I hope it means he is going to try to add features that give our characters value, i.e. soft skills and aging effects.

I think i am mostly anticipating the new Renderer, since it would feel great to play the game without hickups, even in towns, without the newest i5 or i7, that would probably increase my experience the most. Hopefully it will also do that, i am afraid I am expecting too much of that...

Otherwise very important things planned for Q1 already, lets hope for the best....

There starting to sound like politicians they talk alot and do very little, sure why would they sitting there on a big pile of cash and the price is going up ? If they could develop as good as they are at making money we would be in beta now.

Character life span + soft skills

?

Sounds like they're bending to the whim of the WoW crowd.  Bot programs will run rampant with players repeating the same motion over and over just to max out a skill......  bad move.

Skills could help giving players a sense of attachment to their characters, though.

If my character with 89 days of survival unders his belt dies, nowadays I loose simply replaceable gear. If the developers follow the suggestions of some players, tomorrow I would loose gear and a character with a shaggy beard and muddied clothes. Yeah, that's horrible indeed. What a pity. With skills implemented I would loose gear, the beard and the mud on clothes AND (more importantly) some kind of non-gamebreaking benefit in core/non core mechanics like fishing, cooking, stamina and so on.

That would help A LOT increasing immersion (last time I checked more often you do something the more you master it), promoting character attachment and help creating some kind of long-term view for the gameplay. Let's not go all drama-like citing WoW, CoD and all that boogeymen...let's see how the developers will implement that. On paper it's a good idea (way better than many other I've seen on this forum or even implemented in the actual game)

Without general roadmaps then we would never know what to possibly expect to be done on the game, and being stupidly negative constantly about anything they do isn't gonna get y'all anywhere.

OH BOY Aerial transport in Q3 2015, almost time to dust off my FSX joy sticks.....I love flying!

Next year is going to be a good one for pc games....GTA-5 is coming out too for pc...man it looks good. Dayz is going to get some asome changes.....Even the total war series is getting a new title...Is it me or did 2014 seem a little stale for pc games?

 FTFY ;D

I don't know about "skills" in games. Why can't you make the game make "me" learn how to play it and get skilled at it rather than having a statistic take care of it?

As for dying, I think most people who have invested hours into the game getting geared up feel enough loss - this is what made DayZ the game it is - the sudden realisation that the dangerous situation you just walked into could lose you everything you spent time over to some asshole that would rape your body if he killed you and what was that noise? Oh, it was your heart beating so fast. There was the elation of winning too, wondering what spoils you were about to loot of the guy you just dropped which could make your jaw drop as you stared at the screen "you are dead" - shouldn't have just rushed in to grab the gear - should have checked first lol.

DayZ brought these emotions out of you, the sense of loss is already there we don't need skills added on top of that, even though I am partial to the idea of them. If they can't make fishing or whatever skills into a sub-game you need to practice to get good at then maybe skills could be a good thing - I just think they're a cheap and a shortcut.

Jexter, you should wait til they describe these "soft-skills" more, to judge them.

What else can soft skills mean besides, improving over time of repeating the same task?

I don't know, but the DayZ devs could ALWAYS put a spin on it. Even if we already have a basic assumption interpretation of "soft-skills", we can't rule out that it could mean more than that.

I haven't judge them - a little weird to say that. I was giving my opinion of them now because there's little point do that after they've been added.

Or, perhaps, improving over time based on character age. Imagine that the stamina skill only increases when you run, but also increases at a maximum % per time period. For skills based on resources there should be no problem. People might waste bandages for a higher skill (speed) in bandaging. But people will definitely waste bullets for better accuracy just like people do in real life. And expose themselves to danger in the process. Meaning it isn't a win/win scenario. And there is actually no way of telling if they will even show us our skill rating. They probably (hopefully) won't.

I guess that is why he is saying to wait and see how they decide to do this.

Put enough concern into them after they've been added and you could possibly be the one that makes the Devs make a change within those "soft-skills".

I hate stuff like this, because it bring the uber c*nts out of the woodwork. "Ooohhh, they didn't follow the last roadmap exactly! Whos to say the won't delay everything and steal our money like the moneygrabbing shiteaters they are?".

Seriously, when is H1Z1 releasing? I want them gone. Go to reddit or something, like seriously, fuck off.

Or voice concerns now in an attempt to stop them putting in something crap they've invested too much time into to take out.
