Pffft i remember why im a Bandit.

Recommended Posts

*disclaimer* This is more of a cathartic post than anything.

Well. To start off, i generally play with a group who commits banditry, but solo i generally do not. I was fully kitted out, and ran into a newspawn. he asked me not to shoot him, i told him i wouldnt, he seemed like a cool guy. We ran around for 3+ hours, got him fully geared and chatted on our treks across the map. In the end, after 4 hours of chillin and talking.. He just shot me in the head, and while unconscious, he told me "dont trust anyone, bitch." and proceeded to finish me off. I then proceeded to stare at the "Youre Dead" screen for atleast 5 minutes solid. So i came to the conclusion that now... Everyone i see is going to end up in a body bag.      :|

Im not raging because a 100+ hour character died, or that i lost all my gear that id had for a quite a while. Im rather salty only because, if i really couldnt trust someone whom i played with for over 4 hours, and talked to nearly the whole time, who can i trust. I was anti KoS for a long time (Once again, im a very nice person when i play solo, and even with my "bandit group" its usually just handcuffing and having fun) But now i completely understand why it needs to be done. Getting killed by a newspawn thats found a gun is one thing, but helping someone for four hours or so, and talking about all sorts of topics, then being shot by them? Its kind of disgusting.

PS: Tool that killed me, i hope you like my gear, and i hope you get fed multiple bottles of disinfectant.

I've only met a handful of players in game that were cool, the rest are just, well, I can't think of a word to describe them that won't get my post removed :D.  I've also played with a few from the forums here that a cool folks.  Other than that I only play with close friends.

Damn man, that really sucks! Putting trust into a person just to get stabbed in the back like that? I would start shooting people myself..

This is why I only play as friendly. When i team up with randoms, even if they tell me their life story I am still paranoid of them, its what makes dayz different from everything else. When the server restarts and you survive, there is nothing like wondering, another 10minutes with that guy, would i be back on the coast right now?

I killed someone i rolled with for 2h, i saved him 2-3 times, only because he mad a racist remark...he had to go down...not even sorry.

Even if i run with a stranger i make absolutly SURE he has either no ammo or no gun. I NEVER let strangers pick up ammo if i can avoid that.

ALLWAYS be on the lookout for strange behaviour, tone, stance ect.

i give people guns. hell, i give people grenades. never been stabbed in the back. not once. maybe that is just luck. maybe not, but i think that giving grenades is a good way to start a friendship.

First thing i do when i decide to try to trust a stranger is give them a hand gun with 1 bullet in it ( it seems loaded to them ) and turn my back on them and see if they shoot me. I can usually survive the one bullet unless its to the back of the head lol.

I had a similar experience. Met a guy, seemed cool. We survived a few sniper attacks together, gathered loot, looted bodies together. We didn't spend 4 hours, maybe an hour just hanging out, then he said he needed to rest and take water so he took refuge in a industrial area (I followed), then he shot me. It doesn't make me trust players any less, I still play the same. I get killed a lot, because i'm a naturally trusting person.

The only time ill urge caution or avoid a player is when he is holding a gun.

I don't understand where you people meet these whackos.  I've never been murdered by someone who's said they were friendly.  I rarely team up with them for more than 10 minutes, though.  I've actually met some of my most trustworthy gaming partners through DayZ.

I don't fully trust anybody until I get their Steam name and a friend request.

People don't give their Steam names to people they intend to betray. That being said, some of the best friends that I've ever met have been in DayZ.

Damn that sucks man. I guess you will need to be kitted again. I also hope that he ruined the mp5 I gave you when he shot you. What a jerk.

I was on a private server yesterday and met a semi new spawn and we looted together, it was cool. We both had weapons and I suspect that it never across his or my mind that we could shoot each other. Those are the really awesome times on DayZ.

There was a dick that took me out as a new spawn twice in a row (I had spawned up near Berezino), both times it was clear I wasn't armed. The second time I managed to run away and hid in a shed, he came running past and while I lay on the ground (I had two fractures and bleeding badly) and I say to him "really? a new spawn? For f*ck sake man, what is the point". He muttered some in and Eastern European language and walked away. I moved to the nearest house and tore up some rags to patch my wounds and was about to go make a splint when he returned and shot me.

On experimental branches, I don't KoS, on public/stable I do, and it's this sort of person that makes me do that.

Dude, that guy who killed you after 4 hours of gameplay deserves to be killed in real. Yes, in real life and yes because of a fucking video game.

If he's actually shooting someone in the face after recieving help and 4 hours of gameplay, I bet he's not a good example for humanity too.

Lets see this: Where are people like these are already OR are candidates of happening to be people like these we come across irl.

- Blackmailers.

- Scammers.

- People who send emails like "Hey your grand grandfathers lost brothers arm hair died (sarcasm) give us your credit card number and pin to recieve his legacy"

- People who send a picture of a phone when you order a phone from ebay.

- People who sell "plot"s from the "heaven".

He deserves to be executed, not because of a game, because he is a potential listed above or already is.

Well, ignoring Yazar and what appear to be his medical issues.

Never trust. I've been in situations myself where I gain someone's trust before killing them. After a couple of month's experience at the mod, I developed the attitude that I should absolutely expect everyone to kill me under any and all circumstances. It's just natural selection, man: once a threshold of KoS banditry is reached, it's just plain irrational to play any other way.

Every person you convince to trust you, to listen to you, to let you live, can be an advantage; second guy in a firefight, someone to grab that epi off you and keep you from dying, an extra hand to carry loot. Then you get to somewhere reasonably safe and distant from spawn points, and pop him in the head once or twice. Sounds horrible. But I don't really see many other options in the game at the moment. Hopefully the base-building and other features they plan to implement will reduce the need somewhat.

Till then, best learn how to gunfight. And how to lie.

Okay so I am called mental because I said those? This is the reality, world is full of shitty people because of this. It is already proven that videogames affect violence and crime for weak charactered and narrow minded people.

People are tend to do what they do in games in real life if they have a low level of intelligence. This is proven by studies. Alright maybe they don't deserve to get killed, but scammers you say, are normal people?

Ew wait, I just read your post properly, you're one of those monsters, stay away from me. Sorry I actually quoted and interacted with you, now you won't shut up...

lol. I wont lie, everyone i play with (and myself) are PvP Players. I dont mean Electro deathmatch PvP, but more like why loot and scavenge when other players can unwittingly 'bring' us the loot? Need stuff set up along one of the busy routes and ambush/kill anyone that looks remotely geared and take what you want from corpse. I've never been really into the whole betrayl thing. the very worst i'll do is play along untill were in a more remote area where im likely to not attract any zombies or other players in the process of killing you.

That said from our little group of 6, my wife is absolutely evil when it comes to the whole cloak and dagger bit. she just genuinely just enjoys knowing she ruined someones day xD I'll nenver forget during one outing we found this kid who imediately started the 'firendly' bit. after a bit of negotiations he willingly come out of the police station. Fast forward about 2 hours, Heather has been playing this kid like a fiddle. (sounds like he's maybe 10-15 and desperately sucking up to her, offering almost every other thing he finds) at which point heather finds the much loved mosin. the kid eagerly offers her a few rounds for it.. and moments later i hear a single loud pop... followed by her giggling coming from the next room like a giddy school girl...

and THIS is why you never trust anyone.

As a general rule of thumb tho as a group, we'd rather make a clean kill, never giving our target opportunity to react or even know we're there. less chance of a messy shoot-out and tons of ruined gear.

You're describing sociopaths, who tend to have high IQs. Also, you're almost in tears over a video game, that can imply low IQ. I don't know which studies you've read, but they're probably bogus.

Looking back to my post now, I guess cursing someone or sentecing death is not nice.

For the researches, google "video games and criminal act or violence"

no Impartial Studies that im aware of, Involving mentally healthy individuals have shown significant evidence of exposure to games or other media directly translating to them acting it out IRL. This does however, come with a big red warning label (that imho should be common sese) that feeding a steady diet of media that contains graphic violence, Bigotry, or other such content to those with pre-existing disorders (and possibly young children who have yet to have a well established world-view and morality) may lead to it spilling into the real world.

Thier are a ton of various disorders/conditions (and these are only the ones that we can currently diagnose- mental health is still a rapidly evolving field) that can alter an individual's world view, sense of morality, and how things they expereince in various forms of media. Many possible combinations of theses may lead to an individual who can become heavily influenced by media.

The only violence I've seen tends to come when children are told to stop playing games, or their mom cancels their WoW account :D
