Stable Branch - 0.50 Discussion

Recommended Posts

Overall everything played pretty well last night. (First time playing since patch).

The overheating thing is a pain in the arse right now. So now we have to have room in our packs for both warm coat and water proof coat or you run the very real risk of over heating, freezing, and/or getting soaked as we travel around.

The one thing that really pissed me off though was that in the span of about 5 minutes the following happened.

I am warming up.

I am hot.

I am hot.

I am hot.

I am thirsty.

Drink all canteen. (100%)

I am hot.

I am overheating.

(repeat that about 20 times).

Finally get to pond.

Get into water to cool off.

My leg is painful.

I have a fracture.

My feet are sore.

My feet hurt.

Pristine pants--> Ruined.

All items IN pants--- Ruined.

Pristine Boots--> Ruined.

I am hot.

My feat are sore.

It's a bit ridiculous right now. Still having fun in the game but the damage models and leg breaking glitches are out of control.

I really REALLY wish they would focus on dealing with these things. I mean, welding helmets and pink derringers are nice and all, but come on.

I can assume they haven't dealt with the roof top equivalent leg breaking glitch.

Personally I think the broken wells are intentional. They are forcing people to experience the new overheating mechanic to see how it works. Just like after .49 it would rain every three minutes on what seemed like every damn server. I will admit that finding water was really a non-issue before. There are ponds and wells everywhere. And once they add in sickness from bad water it will be even harder to survive. I just hope that they remember that for people to want to play the game it has to still be fun and you need to at SOME point have a chance to get to a place where you are relatively comfortable and surviving. If they make it so that you are guaranteed death no matter what you do it becomes futile and eventually boring.

Remember what Joshua taught us. When there are no winners "the only winning move is not to play." ....what? I'm showing my age again? C'mon, you guys play online games. You HAVE to know the movie. ;-)

"I'm not sure if it's coincidence or not but I did not see a single zed in my last 1 hour+ play session."

Well, what I have noticed is that once all the zombies in a single (small) town have been killed, they don't really seem to respawn except at restarting of the server, so that might be a possibility.

I have wondered that myself, how long does it take for a zed to respawn from the moment he's killed?

I would love to know this.

In my experience the time taken for zombies to re-spawn is somewhere between a couple of minutes or never.

I've found more sks ammo on corpses than at military buildings

You didn't happen to assist them in becoming corpses, now did you?

Maybe a little?

Has anyone else found a Press Vest in a Hospital? I found one on the ground floor stuck between the stairs.

Just found one on the wreck at Rify.

This 100%.

I've had two hardcore deaths within 40 minutes due to to no loot whatsoever and failing to make it to the next town before starvation (first time ever, I even ate worms to try and survive, they didn't,) and hypothermia, (not a stitch of clothing to be found, let alone a match and an axe.)

I've put these down to random chance and unlucky spawns, but it's a worrying development considering the talk of permadeath, 1 life per day / server etc etc...

Zeds can die face down, now! The first time I ran into this, I kept whacking him with my ax, for fear that he was going to get right back up. He didn't, of course. But if any one was watching, it must have looked pretty comical.

What talk? Where did you hear that?

Hahahahah

No

There is no way they would ever add that. I just can't imagine the magnitude of the shitstorm that would happen if they implemented something like that. That would be a big bang of shitstorms. A shitstorm to end all shitstorms.

There's always been talk of permadeath and variety there of in dayz.

I would very much doubt it would be implemented in the 'normal' version, but I would think some private shards would take this to the next level once they are implemented.

Yeah not to mention the two "crossover" characters that occur when the stable and experimental versions match up. I didn't opt out of experimental so when I joined a stable server I found an old kitted character from some number of months ago that I barely remember.

Huh. I didn't know that was a thing! That was probably a surprise to you, both pleasant and negative. I'll have to remember that, because it alters my understanding of character saves a bit.

I switched back to Stable on the Steam client prior to booting up the game on this build, so I didn't run in to that "issue" (can you call it that?), but I've definitely been in a position of playing on Experimental when the Stable build is the same, so I bet I have a weird offshoot character stuck somewhere in the ether as well.

Could not for the life of me find a Mosin last night.

Usually I can find one with relative ease.

Went to Novo and in to the town hall/office place where I know I can usually find a Mosin. Made my way through each room, and each room was rammed full of loot.

Every room I went in had abut 6 weapons in it. One room had 3 double barrel shotguns sat on a coffee table. Found plenty of SKS, repeaters, pistols, Sporters etc etc, but not a single Mosin. I have everything I need though to gear up a Mosin, found 100 rounds of ammo for it, PU and LRS, Compensator, Bayonet, two cans of spray paint - the lot. But no Mosin...

It would be nice if the devs were slightly more open about some of these wacky variables and what they are trying to test for. I don't mind things like "We shut off the wells for a while to see how the heat mechanics force you to do other things"... But I don't like dead silence where we are wondering if they are bugs or not.

This doesn't generate the needed feedback to the dev team if we don't know what is normal, buggy, or just a test. They hear lots of people screaming, but there's no way to properly put it into context. Both sides need to know where things stand and why, and it will help get the kinks and dynamics sorted out a lot faster.

-What's the story with the wells?

-What's the story with the shoes?

-What's the story with the heat?

-Etc...

EDIT - I say this as I've been a BETA tester for quite a few games. I would rather be able to offer some specific feedback in response to some variable that I know is being tested, as opposed to being blind and forced to do nothing more than bitch.

Example, if I knew the shoes were damaging purposely faster. I would offer feedback such as...

"The concept is working great, however I find that more rugged footwear tends to wear out faster than you would expect, but I also notice that walking in the grass seems to damage them more than walking up hill in the forest. What about damage from water/swamp walking? I didn't seem to notice it having an effect. Also the girly pink shoes seem indestructable. I also find the duct tape works a little too well for fixing them. What about sewing kits, or the leather kit being able to repair shoes?"

As opposed to being blind and saying things such as...

"WTF MY SHOES KEEP BREAKING!!!!"

Which seems more constructive?

I say it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, I see where you're coming from exactly and I feel it would allow us to give better feedback if we were more aware. On the other, I can see some situations where the developers would rather something be intentionally ambiguous to see how the community reacts to a change they aren't expecting. Two very different kinds of feedback, and they must be used appropriately.

In addition to what Tatanko said, the thing i've quotet is more than likely a bug. Testing stuff in a way you mentioned is usually an experimental thing. I've never seen them doing this on stable.

Perhaps a better thought as well, would be if the devs had quick access to variables like these.

After a single day of "WTF my shoes explode" it's a pretty obvious feedback of "Ok boys this didn't work, let's adjust it" and they can roll-out/hotfix it right away.

It kinda sucks when there's an entire week (Usually longer) before it gets fixed with the next update. I've noticed it quite a bit (both my my group and others who we've played with) where everyone jumps back and says "Ok looks like the game's fucked again, we'll move over to Arma for a couple weeks or a month until they sort this shit"... And that's exactly what happens.

I'm just coming back in from a 3+ month break where I found things were getting to the point of stupidity with some of these wacky variables that made their intended point/purpose in the first 24 hours, but sat there for a full (if not longer) update.

I know it's a serious pain in the ass rolling out updates for every little glitch, but there is a large userbase that gets up and walks away from the game when this happens. Roll out the major update, and expect over the next 78 hours to roll at least 2-3 major hotfixes for stuff like this, then you can sit back and watch for the majors to crop up. That's kinda how it's done though in most other dev units, and it keeps the regulars much more engaged.

I know it doesn't seem it in here, as most of us in the forums are pretty diehard, but the regular "silent" userbase is going through massive churn all the time because people get frustrated quickly (Yeah yeah I know... Alpha...) but quick little fixes like this would easily keep people engaged longer.

Video from our Private-Hive Persistence enabled server where loot respawning is working, but in a strange way...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DqM6nNa0uQ

...to get rid of it we have to delete our Persistence-Save File but this will kill tents etc. as well....

We were at the northwest airfield as well when we encountered the same thing as in your video. The picture I put up a few pages back was from the fire station @ NWAF.

My server "Welcome to the Jungle // 24/7 Daytime // Persistence ON" is not having this issue. We've had several admins across the map looking for places that might spawn loot like this but so far we're not seeing it. Myself and Apollo (co-owner) were at NWAF for most of the day yesterday looking to see if this  would happen........

Is anybody else having issues with persistence on and items not staying? I've had a few folks email us stating their tents were gone when they logged back in. It seemed to be working the day .50 released. I setup 3 tents with different items in them and they all were there yesterday when I logged in.

I have not had a chance to check today but my fear is those items are gone just like the others on the server who reported this issue........

Yesterday i was in at a first floor in a  building and i received the message that my leg was in pain and i had a fracture then my feet was sore and after some seconds i died. At first i thought someone shot me throught the window but i didn't hear the shoot. Now i've read here on this thread that could be related to shoes consumption. Is that correct ?

Nah you simply glitched through the floor.
