OnePersian 0 Posted April 30, 2014 Alright guys, I purchased DayZ a couple days ago and I am about 20 hours or so into the game. I am on my 3rd character and have finally made my way inland to gear up. I have acquired all pristine gear: fire axe, ballistic helmet, tko pants/jacket, camo UK assault vest, hunting backpack, m4 (all prestine attachments/200+ rounds of ammo) etc.... Now what do? I was thinking of joining a popular server and trying to be a "hero" but I just don't like the fact that bandits can KOS and here I am running around screaming "friendly". I would be devastated if I died from being sniped and having to re-gear another character without really playing it. But then again it is DayZ and you don't really experience the game without getting out there and enjoying it (dying and re-gearing all apart of the process). I was thinking of joining a clan or something but at the same time I feel I am still a noob (NEVER been in a gunfight), so I don't really have that much experience. I don't have the best computer set-up so I feel as if I would be at a disadvantage in PvP (runs somewhat smooth, around 20-35fps). So I guess what I am asking is, what do you guys enjoy doing after gearing up characters?
Zedertone 378 Posted April 30, 2014 Logging into a highpop and pvping is the way to go :P#1 rule in DayZ: Never get attached to your gear.
calabam 55 Posted April 30, 2014 Like it or not combat is the end game of dayz others will tell you go and have an epic adventure and tell your story on here or reddit but these folk are essentially fame hungry whores all streaming themselves and hoping to become the next youtube sensation. Go and shoot at some folk get killed and lose your gear .. you wont get any good at combat if you dont experience any.
Survivor_Ted 269 Posted April 30, 2014 Play as a hero sounds good, there aren't a lot of them around so if you choose that playstyle you'd definitely benefit to the entire community. Maybe you won't get recognized, maybe people won't be grateful, perhaps no one will care. But YOU know that you did a good deed, and that is all that matters, knowing that you're helping people in need. Leave carepackages of food for new spawns in their spawns. Help people getting attacked by bandits. Just help people in general and be a good guy, meaning no KoS. Just NEVER let your guard down, and be wary.
UltimateGentleman 355 Posted April 30, 2014 Whatever you do don't become a noob hunting douche, check out the airfields or towns when there's a lot of people and have some gunfights. Best thing to do is go third person and watch people to try discern whether or not they're friendly, if they shoot some noobs get out there and destroy them.Feels rewarding but given that the map is so huge and so relatively little players can be on it, it can be hard to find a fight anywhere but battlezones like airfields. StopChewingMyLegDude 3 Posted April 30, 2014 I'd rather not bother investing lots of time going inland until there is an ability to make stashes, so you can save at least some of your progress. You're going to be killed eventually and loose everything, so personally I collect bare necessities only and a gun. I stay on the coast to jump straight into action to see how things turn out, occasionally going a bit inland if I'm short on some supplies. If you are a nice guy do what two previous posters above said.
Etherious 907 Posted April 30, 2014 Right now there is not much else to do. If your already bored, I would suggest taking a break from DayZ.
pilgrim* 3514 Posted April 30, 2014 Go on a quest Decide you want :A Long Range ScopeOr 4 canteensOr a Press VestOr all 4 parts of the Map And just don't give up till you get that.Everything else wiill happen to you on the way.
tobias winfro 305 Posted April 30, 2014 Being that you are geared its time for a high pop server for some PvP action. Being a "hero" is cool and all but 9 times out of 10 trying to help people will only get you shot quicker. You will find people to help but the line between being a hero and a survivor is skewed. There will be times when you must choose to shoot someone for safety reasons. I wish you luck in whatever you decide to do but like what calabam said PvP is end game at this point
NagsterTheGangster 388 Posted April 30, 2014 Sorry dude, but you are almost 90% assured to die shortly after you join a high pop server. I mean, id still do it because experience (no matter how small) is worth more than the gear you have atm. Experience is all you have in this game in the end.. Instant map right there, end quest! :-DAlso just randomly came across a Pristine press vest and then a pristine riders jacket in experimental before they took the servers down. JKS-Alex 79 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) hide in a hole and survive!!   Oh and bring with you loads of beans and water..Seriusly... What about go on the coast and help freshspawn? (get some food that don't need a can opener and 2/3 water bottle/canteen) probably you will die fast coz kosers and you have to do all again but that's the fun.Sometimes as clan we do some escort service for poeple that are just spawned or we help players new to dayz to reach their friends or get some basic equip, something always happen on the way, a single lucky hit in your backpack may need a whole night to get again all your stuff, or you will meet a bandits group and a nice fight can happen..That's dayZ a real sandbox hours will pass too fast anyway :beans: Edited April 30, 2014 by JKS-Alex

So I guess what I am asking is, what do you guys enjoy doing after gearing up characters?First off, that m4 you have is garbage compare to the one in the mod. Untill thy fix it i would strongly consider carrying the Blaze or the Mosin. 1hit KO with those if need be. the games currrent disperson cone for the M4 turns it inot a total crap shoot as to rather it will work for ya or not when you need it to. Second, even at 20FPS you can play effectively. ive done it for a long time! only recenly investing in a nice rig more for multi-boxing on eve but i digress. experience some PvP and get some practice. if you havent played it yet, the mod is definately worth playign simply to get used to observing, stalking, etc. you'll get way more opportunities there- just know that the gun handling is not the same. And finally- dont let long winded people on the forums (myself included) tell you how to play! dayZ doesnt have to be a camping simulator any more then it does a Military simulator. Play the style you enjoy. I love stalking and hunting players. its a rush and a bit of a power trip at times having the guys head in my scope and knowing i could just kill em or not on a whim. like wise maybe you actually enjoy the struggle with the environment more? or want to keep helping people? and never get into a rut either. theres no law says you can't switch up your playstyle from time to time! These are just general suggestions to get more from it, Play how you want and enjoy YOUR game.
OnePersian 0 Posted April 30, 2014 Loving the replies guys, it's interesting to know how differently some of you guys play the game. I think it's time to get out of my shell and go help some fresh spawns even if it may cost my life. In other words... LEEEEROOOOYYYYY JENKINNNSSS

I did decide to play a hero and I died within 5 minutes being shot in the back :) Slowly you learn to love gearing up and losing it all once you get bored and start taking too many risks. Sistinas1973 50 Posted April 30, 2014 yep, most people start out in the same mindset, so don't think you are alone. I was similar, thinking "damn, I don't really want to get killed now that I got all this gear." Then guess what happened? I got killed. Once you play through a few lives, you will know what's what. meaning, what kind of gear you want to "aspire" to have, and then simply go after it. The challenge is living long enough to put together the "kit" you want. When I start out as a freshie, it's a mad dash to grab everything I can as quickly as I can. That's half the fun. Then, If I survive that long. I start to customize my Kit to how I feel like playing that character. Maybe it's a military excursion and I will go to the airfields. Maybe I want to go old school and get a leather jacket, sawed off, and black suede shoes. Or sometimes I go for the urban camo look with the homemade pack, green raincoat, hiking boots..........you get the idea. Out of the 3 months I've been playing I have not lived long enough to enjoy my kit longer than a few hours, but I have no grievances. For me, it's about doing all that I've said and surviving the crazy kos psychopaths and living just another day.
Viktorcenko 7 Posted April 30, 2014 I was in the same situation. I'm all geared up and now I decided to join a clan and have some fun hunting bandits or other clans.

So I guess what I am asking is, what do you guys enjoy doing after gearing up characters?I felt the same way as you my friend, first I gotten all the gear can ever possibly want and I sat down and asked now what do I want to do, at this time the game was 3 weeks into the alpha. So I tried everything, first I tried being a bandit, but I can never get my victims to comply and sit down while I torture them. I tried KOSing but I got quickly bored after killing people for a while who were so bad that they just hit the floor making it easy for me to get some shots in. I tried being a hero and no one wanted my help they just wanted my gear, I was contemplating to just uninstall the game and forget about it, I was at the NE airfield where I met some people in a building and I talked to them the friendly approach, nevertheless I got a couple of shots in me and I went down, now I was going to re spawn since I was unconscious but I remembered there was a sticked post on the forums that gave medical assistance TMW. I went and I looked for medical assistance, in less than a few min they came and helped me out, I was suspecting them to kill me when they were coming to rescue me, but they didn't they got me out of unconsciousness and saved me. I immediately fell in love with the community and I started hanging out with them and going through there application process at the same time. Now I am here as a TMW medic and I love what I do :3 Edited April 30, 2014 by king_of_the_beans
artisan661 13 Posted April 30, 2014 When I like to not deal with people at times i would just farm for certain items in the game, that were new or change my outfit, run around with a 22 ect, get mp parts for m4 or lps for mosin . If i didnt want to do the help fresh spawn thing. Now ive seen all the gear and kinda want to go help fresh spawns and pvp but try to get into it with the griefers . BUt i would watch from a distance or go into town and hold up somewhere and check things out, i wouldnt try to really run around and be noticed lol. So thats the next step i guess lol. Till they add hunting ect the lone survival gets boring after a certain point. Then shooting and people interaction is what id go for next lol I was also considering joining a clan i think a clan would add a lot more to the game. They take new players so thats fine for u. Your comp is fine. It would add more of the social side of the game i think if you join one of those clans that goes and helps new spawns. That would be fun. or get into tactical stuff You could look into getting arma 2..i think on steam its pretty cheap, arma 3 is still like $60 lol so thats w/e, i really like it but you can play with arma 2 and play dayz mod and all the other dayz mods or wasteland and help with your standalone shooting skills and controls and get use to the map. arma 2 wasteland was really fun and it helped me to learn to pvp and navigate the map. It helped when i got back into dayz

qww 287 Posted April 30, 2014 why would anyone not play in teh most populated server available op, you pretty much wasted your time, because getting all your gear in easy mode is pointless. i suggest you go to berezino and die, then start again, playing only on populated servers
audax 207 Posted April 30, 2014 -Go to the coast-Help some fresh spawns (food etc)-Interrogate them about bandits in the area etc-If you have the right info (how they look and where they are killing people) go to hunt them down. Im doing this with my Scoped AKS. For now i scored 3 bandit kills (2 guys who where camping on a roof in berezino and a guy who was shooting at fresh spawns in the same area). But keep in mind this: this is a lone wolf job, if someone say that wants to help you dont let them follow you, so you want to risk any betrayal etc. Or just join a clan and kill everybody in sight XD, for now there are not a lot to do in this game
Raptor05121 32 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) The first thing you need to do is learn how to shoot. Find some zombies and try cracking some shots off at them. Page Up and Page Down adjusts your Zero (top right corner, in yards). Shoot about 200 rounds before you try taking on another player with a gun. Ive seen bambis with less than 5 minues after they spawned with stock mosins and just 5 rounds of ammo take out a 5+ hour fully-kitted mall cop with a M4 in his hands Edited April 30, 2014 by Raptor05121
