Do Zombies Dream Of A Good Nights Sleep? (Zombie feedback)

Recommended Posts

Given the games engine and well, quite frankly, over all clunkiness of the game play, I think the game would be much better off with shambling, possibly slow jogging zombies but huge numbers of them. Noise is still an issue, stealth would still be more viable and so on. It would be easier to balance the zombies. Simply make them hit hard and make them slow with large numbers and roaming hoards.

Lately I've been seeing more and more issues with them. Getting hit from really far away, invisible zombies killing you and so on.

Zombies can push you throught walls pretty easy. Always carry rotten kiwi with you or something to commit sudoku when trapped into a wall this way.

The guy is right on the spawning part. If a zombie is killed then it should respawn randomly somewhere and not right away, close to where you are.. appearing like some ghost. After all we would be able to clear areas now wouldn't we.

I always looked at the spawning zombies as maybe some of them were laying down in the tall grass and get up to attack as they hear something. I have never seen a zombie laying down but it helps me justify them showing up. I myself would like them to be a bit slower and a lot more of them as long as the agro range is a lot less. Need to be able to stealth past them if you don't want to draw attention to yourself. I had one on me the other day and took great pleasure running him to another player and climbed a ladder. Kind of like the old EQ train!! Hah. I find it disappointing that there is so few of them. I know as things progress there should be more around so I just hope we can get to a larger number. At least then they can be a real threat and maybe more people will want to group up rather than kos. I'm not against kos at all just want it to be more about a zombie outbreak and less about random people killing others. Again not against the pvp aspect at all! As soon as it progresses more I will recommend to a few friend and maybe have some RL backup 8)

Left a few months ago as there were next-to-no zombies. Eating food to keep energy levels up was about all there was to do. It reminded me of Neopets which I stopped playing circa 2000. Only Neopets had other features.

Are the zombies improved in both numbers and how they work?

Well they have always been in game just not the huge numbers yet stated by Rocket in the previous year. HOWEVER they DID add the monkey zombie in game with this new patch which is cool. Sometimes you can catch  them running on all 4s after you.

Zombies are more of a threat now, yes, but not yet at their "final" numbers.

Crawler/Howler/Monkey/Frog zombies from Mod are recently implemented.

In fact there are a shitton of new features that, even if the current DayZ PvP world is not your style, would make it worth loading up again at least for a while.

New cities, guns, hunting, most existing cities have had at least modern SA buildings implemented.

Also, there were MAJOR revisions to the NE airfield, which hopefully soon, will make everyone a hell of a lot less geared up.

Patch .43= zombies only appear in & around towns/airfields and are easily killed/avoided

Patch .44= zombies still appear im same places as patch .43 but then melee became very ineffective and once you aggroed a zombie they would come at you from everywhere even if they could not see you they would respawn and instantly run after you until you left the area

Patch .45= zombies back to patch .43 basically

Patch .46= zombies back to .44 zombies BUT melee is effective still.

I personally like them being more of a threat but I think it is lame that the respawned zombie I killed who spawned out of LOS from me is instantly aggroing me and chasing me down....meanwhile other zombies in the area remain neutral even though they are closer to me and should be able to see me..

Zombies are more broken than my sex life.

1. They spawn at their last point of death, and insta-agro on you (sometimes)

2. They aggro on you from WAY to far. Had a zambie aggro on me from 500m+ while I was prone in a tree.  Literally watched the sucker run all the way towards me.
3. Their mexican leap attack thing hits even if they are 20 feet behind you.
4. They run so fast that Usain Bolt would be given a run for his money.
5. They can 1 hit KO you while you are fully healthy and standing.
6. You bleed way to much from them.  Punches make players bleed more than bullets. Why is that a thing?
7. How do zombies ruin boots? Why are they punching your feet?
8. They still run through walls, although I read somewhere that a fix is being worked on and will take time.

9. Some of them are still invisible.

10. They can hit you through ceilings.

11. Sometimes, they just stop in place, and start attacking air, yet somehow the hits are landing.

Between these versions havent really noticed any differences just the crawling zombies. You still can take out group 4-5 of them with fists. Not very effective but very possible.

If some day the zombies figure out how to hit strafing people,we are going to be f****.

The insta aggroing respawned zombies are horrible. Absolutely horrible.

How about introducing spiked knuckles into the game that deliver 2x  the damage of a naked fist? They would seem to be perfect for going  mano a mano with a pus bag Zed or two.

I dont know why basic stealth can't be implemented either : Prone = Invisible to zombie

Would be a start

This 'zombie pathfinding' is my most anticipated update for a video game ever. Literally been waiting since release in December for this. As far as I am concerned, the game is completely broken until this is in, And I cannot stand playing any longer until its in. even though I'll openly say its one of my favourite games.

Hey all together. :)

I have after weeks of not playing DayZ reingeschaut again and somehow still lacked this "zombie factor" in the game.
Sure, I follow the forum 1-2x a week and also look busy at reddit and the Devtrackern generally pure.

However, despite the published roadmap, I have my doubts that there is again this Zombie Survival Feeling that I had hoped for.
Even in the mod that was unfortunately only accessories and not really well implemented.
I am speaking here not of such detailed things like "zombie hordes" or further into the matter following improvements, but just from the basic things such as animations, appearance, behavior, reactions, etc.

Now there are in Experimential patch as a first step Ragdoll, but there's so many things are open in the base game (such as cars, base building, etc.), I do not think it is still large time possible to implement something in DayZ.

General, I fear that it is simply too much content to is what is planned and what is hardly feasible in my opinion in this period.
Especially in relation to bug problems, problems with the engine itself and the coordination of the different associated areas in the development team.

What I hope for is a zombie creatures which of course to sounds, movements and smells responding (eg blood) and then hobbles depending on the degree of decay or Zombie style, crawling, running or even phased runs.
So the zombies are then partially to real danger or maybe not if, for example, just crawl like it was in the mod.

I honestly hope that you can implement most of what you have set out to do, but right now I doubt (and my friends with whom I had already discussed that) seriously because so many more implementation work are open, the pressure from month to month (also because of the "competitive" as H1Z1) rises and the time is less.

Anyway .. hope dies last well known. So much power, nerves and success in programming the developers.

Do you have a link for that quote? I haven't heard anything about navmesh being implemented in exp today.

With the navmesh totally working, no more running through walls....what about doors?

Can we shut doors on them, do they open them or do they just run through them?

Even if they do hopefully it definitely will be up soon, they should up the amount of zombies too. I had 4 chasing me in one town it was intense.

And they kept hitting each other as they were following in a train so one got knocked out, it was hilarious.

Well the navmesh works pretty well, but there's still some issues. Zombies still clip through buildings and are half in the floor. Then, they occasionally will snap onto the floor, and be inside as normal.

However, to answer your question, yes. Doors stop zombies like a brick wall. You can trap zombies in buildings and shut the door in their face if you need to escape.

Everyone mentions the navigation and path finding of the zombies as being the defining factor in their improvement.

The main issue with the zombies for me is that they are fucking irritating. All they are really is a disruption to whatever else you are trying to do. They fail at being scary, they fail at being entertaining to kill. In other words they fail as zombies. Whenever I hear them aggro at me, I think "oh for fucks sake". It's been like that since the mod.

Obviously not walking through walls is an improvement, but they are still no where near the standard I'd like to see. I want them to be fun to kill in small numbers, and absolutely brick shittingly exhilarating in large numbers. All they are now is irritating and I really hope that changes.
