Rolling Update Rev - 0.43.116251

Can a mod please lock this topic? Any valuable discourse has already been posted and the only thing that is left is impatience.

So where we're supposed to discuss the past patches, the current patches, and the future patches...? On Instagram? (knowing Dean, i wouldn't be surprised if it will really happen...).

Here ya go Guys, watch how hard this was. This is from their tumblr.

Guaranteed Updates

As previously mentioned we want to move from the current situation where the client and server “spam” messages at each other, hoping that some of the messages get through. Because they can’t be sure, the updates have to be sent again and again. This is believed to be the major restriction from breaking the 100 player limit. We anticipate this will be appearing on experimental servers next week, and then onward into the update for this month.

Fireplaces

We’re ready now for our final implementation next week of fireplaces and the ability to light flammable objects on fire. Many visual updates and changes to the engine have occurred as part of this and we’re now making the mechanisms for players to decide where and how to make fires and how to light items on fire.

Physics and Throwing

We will be deploying this to experimental next week to gain some more feedback on its implementation. Progress on ragdoll has been steady although this is unlikely to be in experimental next week and will be ongoing for some time. A new animation system and animations have been made that allow you to “power” up your throw, the same system is used to allow you to draw your arrow when firing from the bow.

Player Mouse Control

Many players have outlined how much the mouse acceleration/controls need to be modified. Players head (view) will move instantly with raw 1:1 mouse feedback. Weapons may “lag behind” depending on how heavy and cumbersome the weapon is. For example, players with a pistol will be able to turn around and fire much faster than a player with a M4, or a chainsaw.

This represented a great deal of work and the complete replacement of the old system, therefore some bugs and plenty of tweaking are expected.

These will be deployed to experimental next week for more player feedback.

From the Art Team: Chris Torchia, Lead Artist

We’ve got our team working in so many different areas its hard to write a small summary of all the work.

We’re wrapping up our part with archery and have a nice looking improvised bow and crossbow to release soon. Our animators have been spending time in the mocap studio to get accurate drawing, firing, and reloading animations for them and its looking great.

Our new studio in Bratislava has been hard at work making some of the new food items which were shown by Dean at Rezzed as well as create all new wildlife models and we’re hoping the combination of archery, wildlife, and campfires will create a unique survival hunting experience for our players.

As for firearms, the P1 pistol is complete and configured in game. The same is true for the AKM but we need to spend some time polishing some of the rough edges before adding them to the loot tables and pushing to public. We’re finally going to implement stripper clips with the mosin and sweep through and tweek some of the firearm cfg values. As well, a little project I’ve kept under wraps is nearing completion. The first SMG in DayZ game will soon be ready and I hope you all will like it.

For character art our talented artists have created a couple new player heads for more unique looking characters which we’ll add in soon.  As well, we’ve made a Soviet-style officer hat and the tracksuit!  Next up, we’ll look at police, EMT, and firefighters.

Lastly, our environment art and map teams have continued to create new, interesting buildings and objects, as well as expanding the number of explorable towns, with the addition of Karmanovka – a town containing over 3000 objects!

There is nothing else to discuss, anything that you could possibly think that's related to the current patch as been reported, discussed, and documented to death. If you somehow and unlikely discover some obscure bug, post it in the bug tracker and then link to it.

It says in the title its a living document, it;d be pretty stupid to lock it

This is not a living document, the original post is the "living document" everything else is just noise.

I totally agree, the funny thing being that the only living part is us lot talking about it, as far as actual content regarding updates to the game its been dead since the day it was born.

Untill they update it  again, then the noise becomes discussion, until the inevitable silence on here in which case it will repeat. And maybe YOUVE discussed things to death, but , believe it or not, some people just got the game, and don't care who Rocket is.  PEACe

Still more info than ive found on here. Just saying. This is Dayz forums, not Dayz forum link to Dayz tumblr. Makes no sense. Just tryin to clear the air n let people know, that they say they are updating.

People are waiting for this weeks devblog since today, so if you post the old one tonight you get the misinformed confused, instead of informed as you wanted to.

considering the fact that everyone seems agreed the relevant info is either too hard to find or not there to begin with, or outdated, i'd say its a dead document. lock it...move on

Lock it, start a new one, acknowledge the anarchy, say anything,  at this point anything would be great.

AMEN!!!! beans for you....

The question was " Do you believe that we alpha testers are getting enough information on updates/changes". Operative word here is "information". And if you mean you feel the amount of information is adequate, then you, as part of their team,  are obviously getting more information than we are.

Ah, I apologise then, I misread. But even then, however, what I said still applies. I am content with what we receive because I don't care - if we received nothing for a month, I wouldn't care. It bothers me not.

And if you mean you feel the amount of information is adequate, then you, as part of their team,  are obviously getting more information than we are.

Whether or not one feels the quantity of information is adequate is a matter of opinion, so that is a silly comment. Regardless, I was referring to the amount of information the public receives. Besides, I am hardly 'part of their team'; I merely moderate the forums.

Fair enough.  I just thought you were trying to avoid the information question. I'm happy with the progress of the game, having been a software developer before , I know it takes time, and one change can effect programs in odd ways.

That said though, as many have stated here, we feel more information would be appropriate, and placing it in their official "Forums" would be even more appropriate. (hence the reason to ask a "Forum Team" member.

Thanks

Yeah, us Forum Moderators don't really have any influence on the devs and their actions.

My Personal Opinion, The game is doing well and it's better than other games in this genre at the moment. devs are doing their best to complete the game in both ways (Fixing Bugs and Adding new stuff to game) . i dunno what's all this complaining about.

but i agree with that this forum is becoming an unofficial forum and useless actually, the best part of the forum is the dev tracker which is completely in the hands of fans. if this forum is going to be what it is today, i suggest devs to just keep the tumbler and turn this forum into an unofficial forum.

i guess i made my point ^^

Hardly a matter of opinion. The info isn't there. Latest patch doesn't even have a thread or changelog. That is fact, not opinion. Face it, this forum is a mess, the dayz team needs someone who updates this section regularly, because right now it's looking very neglected and quite unprofessional.

Its a rolling update.

Please inform yourself.

The information is there, you are just failing to understand it.

They are not going to feed it to you like a child, it is not their job nor do they have to tell you exactly what is going on.

They give you the information they want you to have.

The opinion that H1N1 will just absolutely blow DayZ out of the water immediately and make us all forget about it is very presumptive. It took SOE a very long time to get PS2 to the respectable state it is in now, and it will probably be the same with H1N1. Just like it will take Bohemia a long time to get DayZ where it needs to be. I spent quite a bit of time on the Planetside forums and there was a very long period of user complaints that puts even this forum's complaining to shame. Sure I get frustrated that the game isn't being updated quickly, but I know that in time it will probably end up being what I'd like it to be.

I speak not of what is there and/or what is not, but rather how one feels about the information there (or apparent lack thereof). So yes, it is an opinion.

I never denied that.

That's nice but I know for a fact that I, for example, am not the only one who can't be bothered using the experimental branch or using the bug tracker any more. Why is that? Because we don't even know what we're supposed to be testing. I don't remember the last time I saw a patch note for the experimental branch, and this combined with the axing of almost all the servers means they might as well do away with experimental entirely and focus on stable branch.

You might not care, plenty of us do. We have all contributed money to this project and plenty of us want to help it achieve some remote semblance of its potential, because we want to actually still be here to play it when it's done. You don't care about the dissemination of info, apparently the devs don't either, and it sends a poor message.

Are we really meant to have faith in that? what happened to last weeks deal of an update to exp?? and all the delays from the last big update?. I wouldn't mind if they told us straight up they wouldn't make the deadline, but to just be silent and sometimes somewhat cryptic in giving us info (via twitter) just annoys the hell out of me.

They might aswell come out now and tell us the stable wont be ready by the end of April, but no they will go totally silent up until early May and then maybe give us something.

Well I understand devs. I believe their hands are full at the moment, so take a cup of tea and calm your tits.

1 big update > 4 small updates.

Just think about it. Whenever they update the game there are problems which have to be solved. Let's put it simple:

We assume that 1 update causes the game 3 days to have issues. If we have 4 small updates, it's 12 days of issuesolving. Whenever they solve a new problem, they add something new and there is another problem. At this point there are implementing really big things. It's better to implemented all and figure everything out, then implementing the things one by one and looking how it goes. When you solve one problem and add another one, maybe the solution of the first problem will cause problems for the second one. So you have to figure out another way to solve problem 1. This is wasted time...

Also, it's just way cooler to have an update where you really see the difference, over a small one where you think "did they even change anything? The game runs like crap now!".

So hopefully they change all their "1 update per week" plans, to me it's a waste of time.

all these 'interviews' cause massive delays.. we all know that.. I doubt we are going to see hunting this upcoming week since they told us it would be the beginning of april.. we're almost half way.. no update released on topic. every 'interview' takes like a entire weekend.. if hunting comes out along with campfires etc. to stable I'll be a bit more optimistic. the longer this takes to 'fix' the more pessimistic I'll become and more sceptical.. its a long process... but the interviews are not helping speed things up.. the list of deadlines is slowly being moved one by one by one.
