IkaikaKekai 1957 Posted March 13, 2014 Normally I would say 'because tits'. However that's not really the case in DayZ where we don't have C cup or greater High Elves with dental floss 'plate' armor. There's many reasons, I'd say the top one is they don't know how to change their character (why am I playing as a black girl?) or some other such 'glitch'. The next one Id say is they THINK being a girl will give them a slight advantage where for some reason they won't get shot on sight, or to lure people into traps (Honey Pot). I'd say probably the last reason on the list is that they're underage and just that immature/desperate for 'pornographic' material. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Etherimp 1323 Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) Well, first of all I think it's important to realize that until you select a "default character", your character model is randomized.. So some "girl" models in the game may actually be dudes who simply haven't selected a default model yet. They may have no reason behind being that character model, they just got randomly selected that way. Currently I play a female character because through the random selection I found I quite liked the way the Latina Female character looked.. Not sexy/pretty.. Just liked the way it looked, and it's a change from the norm. Don't see many people sporting the Latin female, so I've stuck with it for a while. I'm just curious, i've always found it funny.I've only had this happen in DayZ and have had people ask me why I'm playing as a girl. Simply put, DayZ randomized my character and I don't bother to customize one ever. Makes no difference I'm gameplay so why bother? As a fresh spawn, I just want to get in there and gear up quickly. rickyriot 1009 Posted March 13, 2014 I sort of covered a little of this in my "how to make hardcore, properly hardcore" thread (here if you are that interested) when I mentioned that the different genders of the characters should play a part in the game. Without getting into misogyny it's fair to say there are differences in the sexes in real life and they should provide in game advantages and disadvantages; for example women (in general) have less upper body strength, but on the flip side they (again in general) have a higher relative pain threshold. Clearly the gender differences are not implemented into the Alpha and as it's a thorny issue I'm not sure if they ever will, so at present the only difference is the perception of the character in game. Sadly it seems that many male players are somehow struck by a mixture of overt chivalry or machismo when they encounter female game players. They shouldn't, actions and deeds should be the arbiter not the physical appearance or the vocalisation (over voip). However with that in mind it does provide those who are clever enough to exploit other's reactions a slight advantage. For example, if you had a soundboard that generated a "I'm a girl, I'm not very good, don't shoot guys" sample coupled with the in game character being female, then the player could gain an advantage in order to get the drop on them. The "damsel in distress" gambit I suppose you could call it. Naturally if people are stupid enough to fall for it, and I've played online games long enough to know that they are for the reasons given above, then well that's just digital Darwinism in action.Of course there is a caveat in all this. As we know the motorcycle helmet is the best head protection a player can get, it also hides the face along with numerous other items (masks, etc), and coupled with other clothing (bubble/puffa jacket for example) there is a question of just how recognisable a female character actually is. However, in a game where having ingame voice can literally be the difference between life and death, if the voice doesn't match the gender, your getting a face full of buck shot for ruining my immersion. The funny thing is i have a heavy african accent and she has a asian one which fits in with our play-style, (roleplaying). when meet ppl (we play the hero angle), they are generally curious and we have a good chat and laughs.
