Weedz 1105 Posted February 1, 2014 Just like when you rent a car. It doesn't give you the right to go and repaint it, change the stereo and turn it into a gangsta mobile. Shiiiiiiiiii ... I'll be right back.
d4wn 23 Posted February 1, 2014 To OP, you buy or rent a server; the software is the property of Bohemia Interactive. It's a really obvious distinction. Just because you pay for a hotel room doesn't mean you can take a giant shit in the middle of the bedspread. Just because you pay to rent an apartment doesn't mean you can tear down walls and make modifications to the structure. Just because you pay for a taxi doesn't mean you can tear up the seats and assault the driver. In short, paying for something doesn't make the rules go away. I'm sorry if that's a hard concept to wrap your head around but please do try because we're all sick and fucking tired of having this conversation every two or three days. xD but if i rent an apartment i can choose who is allowed to come in ;)
d4wn 23 Posted February 1, 2014 I'd pay $50 to see Dean choke this guy out. lets give a try, and hope my kickboxing skills are not so good :)
Beck (DayZ) 1768 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) xD but if i rent an apartment i can choose who is allowed to come in ;)A server is nothing like an apartment, because the server is PUBLIC. An apartment is PRIVATE But in all seriousness Rockets power lies within the beans...Rally the troops! I'm going to need more beans if we are going to do this. The thirst is real. ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) xD but if i rent an apartment i can choose who is allowed to come in ;) Yes, but not true of a cab for instance. Let's not take the analogy too far. The point is, money doesn't buy you the right to make the rules. Edited February 1, 2014 by ZedsDeadBaby

Max Planck 7174 Posted February 1, 2014 than dont make examples with apartments ;) or other stuff... if i pay for smth i want to controll it! This is something you can't control though, so you shouldn't pay for it.All problems solved.
-Gews- 7443 Posted February 1, 2014 I think a more appropriate title would be: DEAN'S server policy - PURE DayZ
Gerandar 212 Posted February 1, 2014 The price isn't worth what they offer/what restrictions they put on you. I'd rather pay someone 70 dollars to eat an entire wedge of cheese.

AmeriCam (DayZ) 9 Posted February 1, 2014 The current rules are set to help with development of the game, eventually those rules will be lifted.Right now the only benefits to renting a server is "Thank You" from us the players and also to get your name/clan known.

OrLoK 16186 Posted February 1, 2014 Hello there Im off to snooze, so this is my last word for the evening. As the servers stand, for many there is no "benefit" to renting a server. AmeriCam wisely points out why some folk might feel they'd like to and I can easily understand their reasoning. Its not as if these facts are unknown or hidden or part of the lizard conspiracy. Again, as Max and AmeriCam (and others) have pointed out that "value" is different from person to person. If they have disposable income then why not? If "injustices" are your thing, there are other worthier causes to promote. Rgds LoK
Survivor_Sabre 23 Posted February 1, 2014 (edited) I've been trying to figure out what Bohemia's long-term business plan is for this game. Relying on the charity of other people renting servers for them doesn't seem like a very good strategy. Bohemia is marketing DayZ as a persistent MMO, why aren't they taking steps to fund the ongoing infrastructure expenses that such a game requires, e.g. by charging a monthly fee? I hope you're not making a suggestion, I pre-ordered Elder Scrolls Online yesterday... I'm not paying another monthly fee, no matter how awesome this game is. I would happily share the cost of renting a server if I had enough gaming friends to do so though, even with barely any administrative powers. It's more about freedom than the cost of a subscription, I feel a little violated by ZeniMax. Edited February 1, 2014 by Survivor_Sabre

doctorbadsign 645 Posted February 1, 2014 why? if you buy a server, the only job you have is PAY for it! how does it make sense? i would like to meet him, and show him in a fistfight what i think about it! If you don't like the policy don't buy one? Also making threats of violence on the internet makes you look unfathomably ridiculous.

dekartz 315 Posted February 1, 2014 because what? he wont have a long way from czech rep. to germany ;)and it is a serious offer, to show him what i think about the whole DayZ-Server thing ;)Because the policy of "I don't like this, thus I will fight you" is usually a poor one, and in the case of computer games, a fucking pathetic one.
