    Comparing DayZ to similar games.

Man I miss the old days when the only people in alpha and beta tests actually knew what that meant and what their purpose of "playing" the game was ... Welcome to the world of open beta's and early access AKA "QQ WHY ISN'T THIS GAME COMPLETELY POLISHED YET" There would be absolutely no point at all in optimizing the game right now because all that work goes right out the window with everything they add or change.

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

3pp is only even in the engine to make it easier to control troops on ARMA. Was never meant to be the mode you play in while controlling yourself. But again, the new majority of players in the game want it to be as easy as possible, don't want the intensity that comes with rounding a corner and having a shotgun or zombie right in your face that you didn't magically already know was there, and will do and say whatever they can to keep it the way it is. Rocket almost made the SA 1pp only before it came out but now that he's basically gone I see no hope of even any tweaks to the camera. Also the 3pp we have in this game is not even close to the same as most 3pp shooters where the camera is right over your shoulder not 15 feet in the air above and behind you. I still say the best solution would be to remove the ability to ADS on 3pp servers and see how the baddies like it then. Shouldn't be a problem right because "3pp is so much superior and you can't even play the game in 1pp" so why would you need to use your sights?

    Any plans for 3PP immersion?

TL;DR - Nope and there probably never will be. Will never happen because the game is full of scrubs who want to be able to magically see around corners instead of getting better at the game and will use any excuse in the book to keep it and the more you point out how their excuses are ridiculous the more ridiculous their excuses get. And they threaten to quit even if you make it just a little less exploity. Best one ever "3pp is more immersive and realistic". My favorite ones are the ones who claim a shooter can't be played in 1pp. If there was a server option to spawn in fully geared and not have any survival elements guess which would be the most popular servers. Nerfing 3pp would have worked in the early days of the mod when it was a niche game where the whole idea behind it was Dean Hall wanted an old school game that kicks your ass and makes you shit your pants like we had back in the day but it's gotten to mainstream now. Funny thing is that's the reason the game got popular in the first place; it reminded people of old horror games where you had no idea what was going on, got genuinely scared while playing, and you died over and over and over and over and over until you got better at it. And then died some more. Now it is who can use a loot map and corner camp the best while just ignoring the horror part of the game and running around the zombies like they're not even there simulator. The zombie part might get fixed but the being able to see if there is any danger without putting yourself in danger so the game is actually scary part I won't hold my breath for. Just look at epoch version of the mod. There are like 5x as many servers and players because you're fully geared with high-end military loot and enough food and drink to survive for a week after searching your 3rd building. People will always flock to the easiest way to play.

I think you're getting your games mixed up if you think H1Z1 has more realistic forests than DayZ, which is modeled after a real place in the world, and some side by side pictures it actually takes a minute to tell which is the Czech Republic and which is Chernarus. Try turning your terrain setting up.
  5. You may actually be right OP. That is what made the DayZ Epoch mod so awesome for so many people (and by far had more players and servers than even the base mod) is joining forces and making huge groups and then fighting other people who had been doing the same. Especially once base building and things are in. That was some of the funnest times I've ever had in any iteration of DayZ was meeting random people by Pwning them and getting pwnt by them over and over so much you got to know them and then eventually grouping up and starting to do things like setting up road blocks and such which is fun; but then when another big organized group comes to try and stop you it got REAALLLLY fun. Or crawling up to people's bases in a group of 10 organised like a Navy Seal raid and taking simultaneous shots to take out multiple targets at the same time so they have no time to mount a defense. Also can't wait for base building so I can create the Great Wall of Chernarus 2.0 (1.0 got deleted by stupid server admins on Epoch who for some reason didn't want a giant wall from the ocean between Cherno and Elektro, and then North up the map a pretty good ways)
  6. Sorry guys all the zombie problems are my fault. I've been training them in the arts of Ninjutsu and psychological warfare since the early days of the mod and they finally started to get the hang of it when the SA came out. When you think a zombie is hitting you from 20 feet away outside a building those are actually the distraction zombies while the most elite ninja-zombie trainees are attacking you so stealthily you can't even see them no matter how hard you try. I would let you in on the secret I use to make them reveal themselves, but where would be the fun in that?

Well ... A. you're wrong if you have your settings correct. If you have a good card cranking your settings up to max actually increases your FPS in Arma's engine most of the time B. I was more referring to the $600 CPU he's claiming to have which is also supposedly overclocked to 4.4Ghz as ARMA has always been all about the CPU C. a 960 isn't an entry level card they are actually quite decent (especially in a game with min req of only an 8800GT) And as OP's claiming to have basically the most expensive computer you can make at the moment (without going overly retarded) I'd assume he also has a SSD. He shouldn't be dropping anywhere close to 30 FPS unless he built his computer poorly, has a malfunctioning part somewhere, or has his settings wrong.

    Changing Config Files

Config file changes will get you like maybe 5 FPS. The things that help the most are proper in game settings for your system and using launch parameters.

I work at a private golf course with $50,000+ "lawnmowers". I wish it ran like those. And if those are really OP's specs and he's dropping below 30 FPS it isn't a problem with the game's optimization.

    ---ATTENTION ALL SERVER HOSTERS---

Holy crap they are actually shutting down servers for breaking the hosting ToS? Haven't seen a game do that since Battlefield 2. Just when you thought DayZ couldn't get any cooler. Keep up the great work guys!

    Sooo, how about those brooms?

OMG yes! "You there peasant! Remove thine self from my path before I have thy head removed!"

Or get 2 for the price of 1 and then you have a backup! Launch parameters guide. To use these on Steam right click the game, go to properties, click set launch parameters. You need a space between the end of one setting and the - in the next. I don't think the order matters. -nosplash – removes the Bohemia Interactive splash page, letting you get into the game faster.-skipintro - skips the intro, getting you into the game faster.-noPause – keeps the game running while minimized or not focused.-world=empty – disables the map from loading on launch, meaning you get into the game launcher quicker, but loading the game will take longer. -cpuCount=8 – set this to how many cores your CPU has. Most systems are either 2 (dual-core), 4 (quad-core), or 8 (octa-core).-maxMem =8192 – set this to the total amount of RAM your system has, 2048 for 2GB, 4096 for 4GB, 8192 for 8+GB.-window - launches the game in windowed mode, if that’s something you’re looking for. -noborder - launches the game in border-less windowed mode.-exThreads=7 - set this to 0,1,3 or 7 – this is the amount of threads your CPU uses. Defaults to 3 for dual-core, or 7 for quad-core. Works for all Arma games. For example here is mine from Arma 3 -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -maxMem=8192 -maxVram=2048 -noBenchmark -noLogs -noPause -noSplash -world=empty -malloc=system The #1 thing you can do to increase performance in DayZ though (especially in towns) is to get a SSD and install the game onto that.
  13. Hopefully it will eventually get to the point where Dying Light is where shooting a weapon is a last resort and will probably end in your dying due to zombie zerg. That game got that as close to perfect as I think any game will get any time soon. Melee is pretty good as well especially against human opponents (AI not real people). Chivalry not so much. The way you get "good" at Chivalry is by learning to exploit the "bad" melee system it has and flinging your mouse around so that you hit people with the start of your attack instead of the middle like you're "supposed" to. AkA 360YoLoSWAGSWAG-noscopeheadshot melee style. This game needs things like dodging and good animations not feinting and parrying like you were an Olympic fencer, renaissance fair actor, or Jedi Knight before the apocalypse. We're not wearing full suits of armor swinging around a 4lb sword.

Cool story bro. The 2 1/2 desktops was just an example. You can also get a gaming laptop from a company which isn't just a Dell with an Alienware logo for a thousand dollars or more less that runs just as good. But if you want to pay double the price you should be solely for a fancy alien head sticker that only costs 2$ on amazon I won't stop you. Not everyone is a kid who has parents that are willing to buy them an extremely overpriced $3000 laptop so they can play DayZ during class instead of learning what capitalization, punctuation, or supply and demand are.

I think he was more pointing out the fact that the guy is going on and on about things that have nothing to do with FPS other than for like 1 minute of the 13 minute video which is supposed to be about how to improve your FPS. The video also doesn't say anything about launch parameters which give a bigger performance increase. Also he tells you to turn off postprocessing and Anti-"ailing" (aliasing) which actually gives most people lower FPS as it's shifting more load to your CPU on the engine that is already a CPU hog. As you have a mid tier i5 but a 770 you'd probably fit into this category. Crank those up to maximum on the in game menu and I bet your FPS will climb more than what it did by following the video's instructions. I know this wouldn't make sense for most games but trust me (unless this has changed recently). Keep the view distance and scene complexity what he said though unless it ups you to the point where you're getting more than enough in which case you can crank those up a little more too if you want it to look a little prettier and be able to see farther.
