Pending Update Rev. 0.29.113822

Recommended Posts

No, the development process started at LEAST 18 months ago..

One year huh? Yea, sure.

And know that because......?

Are you in the dev team?

I'm not even going to answer this...

In 1 year(let's say it was one year :) ) they could have easily re-write AT LEAST the zombie movement, spawn and collision. THAT'S JUST ONE FEATURE.

And i didn't talk about the most stupid thing: poor framerate and server capped to 40 players.

A lot of players are having fps issues and there are not even zombies on the screen.

No offence, but you don't know much about game development or the RV engine. Do you?

Do you?

Can you say that's normal re-coding nothing except the zombie movement in 18 months?

If by nothing you mean all of the new features of DayZ then yes, that sounds about right to me.

And those "new features" have nothing to do with the engine in the way i was trying to explain.

They are just....features. you know?

What concerns me know is that the team (apparently) is focusing on new features just to keep the hype high when there are some SERIOUS PROBLEMS around.

I know because I am currently a tester, Rocket has also recently announced that some security enhancements were added with the latest patch.

As for the zombie related issues, it's not just 'one feature'.

What they are doing required rewriting zombies from the ground up and redrawing and marking all boundaries on the map from the ground up.

To fix the issue (and increase performance) zombies are going to be offloaded to their own thread for individual processing, only when this is done can they fix the current issues with zombies, this is no small task.

Client performance has never been an aspect that has been focused on in development, it's an afterthought if anything, the primary goal was good SERVER performance and has been for a while, there are very few optimisation attempts for client-side frames.

Right, and you think the guy working on coding the ability to lick a battery is the same guy working on AI?

I do not know and why should i care?

I've never seen their dev team working so how can i answer?

Logically, i can say: probably no? But why focusing on those stupid things when there are some bad issues around? Just focus the entire team on THOSE, and then spend time introducing "stupid" things like licking a battery....

Why would they assign people that aren't AI specialists to work on AI?..

Poor frame rates and servers capped at 40 player slots?

I don't mean to alarm you but I'm getting up to 90 FPS on 'very high' settings and I've seen an 80 slot server. :S

Licking battery not working, but this is a critical update so will not delay release.

Ideas like this are why you are the best dev ever in history. You are just like us and know exactly what kind of stupid little things make us happy in the pants! Edited by Weedz

I saw a 126 slot server once, and it was full.

NO PLEASE, stop this NONSENSE that i'm reading all over Reddit.

Let's face this once and for all ok?

This is an alpha, GREAT, but we had a TWO YEARS, i will say it again, TWO YEARS alpha were rocket had the opportunity to, at least, take note of the bugs/horribile things the mod had (zombies, collisions, client/server problems) EVERYONE was expecting that after two years (i'll say it again, TWO YEARS) of working on the mod he would have fixed AT LEAST those things...This should have been an alpha, sure, i don't care about char wipes, crashes, bugs, WHO CARE, what really drives me mad is that every OLD BUG THAT WAS IN THE MOD IS STILL HERE.

Really? So he did nothing except designing rotten kiwis/bananas? Were did our feedback go? The only thing he did was creating a new primordial zombies IA (and thas IS really good).

So, no, stop saying i should blame MYSELF, because i'm not the one who fooled everyone.

Oh, and the most important thing is: when the cheat mania hit dayz mod(6-7 months ago) rocket said that the SA would have a completely new client/server achitecture to prevente this..

GUESS WHAT? Servers are filled with hackers (go to Reddit and see by yourself). Where did this "new" architecture go?

and please, don't try to change the subject to the "end game" because that's not the problem, i'm not concerned about the lack of an endgame, my problem is that they don't even have an idea about what the fuck they should introduce to create an end game.

The Alpha has been out for less than a week... Everything you want will happen in time. These things don't happen over night. Do you understand what an ALPHA is? It is a work in progress. That means certain features are either not in the public build yet (that doesn't mean they're not in the internal testing builds). It also means that certain aspects of the game that are already in retail build are switched off at the moment, and will be turned on in steps over the next couple of weeks/months. This is done gradually to test each new function in a live enviroment carefully. Most of these features are also going to be works in progress and will change, update or be removed based on tester feedback (that would be people like me, and you considering you bought the ALPHA).

You need to get it out of your head that the dev team 'owe' you anything. There are multiple disclaimers in various places about the work in progress state of the alpha, bfore and after you buy the game, and every time you log in. Right now it isn't a game. It's is an exprimental work in progress. The 'retail build' we play publically, but that is about 5% of the physical, logistical and intellectual content that is currently in existence regarding DayZ. There will be lots of  very busy people working on many many things at once, several of which you have mentioned, these will all be dealt with in time but you're crazy to expect some kind of magical 'working product', considering that this isn't even a beta. Game development is hard and it takes a long time.

Seriously, come to terms with this not being a game, realise that what is happening right now is that the dev team have opened up their game to the public while they continue to work on it. It is not intended to be a functioning, working product, it is no where near finished. You have the choice of participating in the early access public alpha testing, giving feedback and contributing to the ongoing development of what will be at some point in the future, this game, you wine on about wanting right now.

Stop trying to play it as though it's a finished game, stop thinking about it as though it's a finished game, don't complain about things not working or being implemented, go and read up on what an ALPHA is in game development and either understand your intended relationship with the alpha as a person that chose to participate in it, or go and play something else. You didn't buy the game, you bought the ALPHA, which happened to allow you to recieve the final 1.0.0 build when that arives with no extra charge so really, stop complaining! The game won't be out for a very long time and there's a lot of work to come before that day arives, do us all a favour and put some effort in to understanding what you've actually bought in to, because you're coming across quite misconcieved.

I know there's a better way of testing a battery if you drop it or using a meter  ;)
