December Round-up: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE SA

Recommended Posts

I've never once duped.

Don't excuse your shenanigans with the "everybody's doing it so it's ok" argument.

Cheat, is a cheat, is a cheat.

No offense to you personally but it is poor gamesmanship to exploit bugs.

I never duped. Mostly because I'm too stupid for it, but still. Cheating is wrong! ;)

Yeah, duping is evil, especially when all your gear disappears for the 5th time running because of a bug/killed by hacker. I had a backup tent that was very well hidden and I would only go there when I lost my shit in the above mentioned ways.

Ooops, I cheated doh.

I hope Frankie never goes near the SA in terms if streaming. Though I suppose it'll be hard for him once he can't hack gear in, in the SA

Haters still hating :D

Nah I used to like his videos but always ysed to wonder how he miraculously found his old gear or how other people he killed had like a thousand amazing items on them.

Then I watched the evidence and it was a done deal!

Whats even worse is that some of those frankiefanboys use the term bambi *shivers*

Guys relax. Hicks said it will only take days for them to finish the bigger stress test. We should have alpher in about two weeks or week and a half from today.

You know, it may sound immature but I'm getting really tired of these new reasons Rocket keeps finding to keep delaying the Alpha release. Now, what 150 testers is not enough? What happened to "once we hit stable with 50 people we'll push the button"?

If they want a real test with tens of thousands of simultaneous hive/central server connections there is only one proper way to do it - release the Alpha TEST on Steam, gather data and work on patching as bugs are discovered.

Getting the streamers to test is a smart move - from a PR perspective - the more I think about it:

- It's free, controlled publicity: that's the purpose of an NDAs/press embargos in this situation. You set terms (the specifics of which I have no notion, this is an example) such as letting streamers play the standalone but not talk about or stream it until say 24 hours before it's release - then they have 24 hours exclusive coverage.

- Streamers won't try to sell keys - because having it is more valuable to them.

- They can only break their NDA anonymously which would make them no money so is unlikely. They would also face legal action and fall into disrepute in all game developer's eyes if caught - which would end up losing them money. (getting caught is extremely likely because there is only one server and examining logs wouldn't be hard - even easier to catch them if they were stupid enough to stream it)

- Streamers won't be trying to buy keys from testers for valuable exclusive access. (if a streamer succeeded in buying one they then wouldn't be subject to an NDA at all)

- Devs can address the issues that streamers have while they're still under NDA - which will minimize the biggest criticisms when the NDA ends/game releases.

- They are more likely to talk favorably about the standalone because they have been treated specially.

On the one hand I think it's a very smart decision to control exposure like this. I for one have bought or turned down games based on the ratings I saw on Metacritic and because I want DayZ to be a success and to continue being funded and developed I don't want the equivalent to happen because of streamers destroying it's reputation on day one, or before. On the other hand I think about how the perpetual alpher DayZ Mod was a massive success in spite of it's bugs and how the DayZ community is so huge now that the standalone can't possibly be turned off by a few glitches and how Dean Hall has made it perfectly explicit how incomplete the game will be at release.

Given the long term need for DayZ to be continually funded and developed I'm starting to favour initial release to streamers. I'm so goddamn jelly though.

I think the expanded testing is just to streamline the process of picking what's staying and what's going for alpha release. Rocket said they're taking out incomplete broken stuff and just leaving things they think work well enough for an alpha. They seem to have their server performance and have confirmed this. Without getting overly optimistic I think we're basically at release, just have to do a little clean up but there doesn't seem to be anything major holding them back anymore.

They can't predict every problem he's going to run into. They can have a good feeling one day and tell us, and disappoint us the next by reiterating, and that's fine. Why? Because we ask him to be transparent with us. If he has a good feeling, why not share it? It's not up to him to manage our expectations.

It's alright to be frustrated, but be frustrated that they ran into some problems; thinking that the lead developper is a tantalizing perfectionnist trying to find reasons to delay the game so he can iron out insignificant details is silly. It's their creation, why can't they show it to us when they're ready, on their own terms?

His notion of "soon" is perhaps not the same as everyone elses'. The difference is relative, when you're comparing "soon" of a game developper and "soon" for a hyped up fan. I'm such a fan; I've misled myself into thinking SA was to be released over and over again. It's alright to be frustrated, just stop assigning blame; he owes us nothing.

I find it amusing how selfish some people can be, as soon as I saw that some "qualified" streamers were possibly going to have game doors open so they could peek a little and prepare their post-release reviews well enough, I upvoted the idea right away. It's not about choosing friends or people you like the most, it's about choosing a designated number of people that will properly advertise the game's features in a way that most of us couldn't.

Most recognized streamers spent hundreds of hours preparing their streams, working days and days to give their viewers the best streams they can, so from everyone sitting in the hype train, I would have no problem being outrun by these players, for I know (at least) most of them would make a good job.

You know, I'm being completely serious here, if he wants more testers, it'd be fair to provide the keys to forum members registered since 2012 and played (actually tested the mod alpha!) the mod since the beginning. I've been killed by ladders, doors, outhouses, trees, rocks, glitched zombies, hackers, I think we can handle the buggy alpha objectively.

So the SA will be available through Steam yes? Also will we be able to buy a non-steam version from Bohemia Store??

I was there the day the cows first fell.  We thought it was supplies from God, we were wrong...

But yeah, I'm not so sure they are going through with the whole "Streamer" plan now, considering what the team has said about the backlash from it...

That's bullshit , and yes my account is created in 2012 to but if you give everyone from 2012 a key to test , you would have to many 10 years old running around not knowing the meaning of "alpha" , just saying.

I think we can all agree there is going to be some community backlash on the decision to allow some members of the community early-early access to the game, because nobody wants to be left out, so it's really up to the devs who they want to have fill the seats.

I'm about to fill my seat.

Well if rocket wants to avoid all kinds of whine kiddies then shouting for streamers to praise the standalone isn't a good thing. Beta and full release are another thing.

My problem is he said they wanted to get the server stable with 50 players. Now they want to do more?? Why, they should focus on 50 players being stable in the server first then release alpher

I guess they just want a bigger release.

More player spaces.

More hype from youtubers.

More moneys.
