December Round-up: ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ GIVE SA

Recommended Posts

I'd rather be proud, unheard, and be surrounded by a few lovable loose nuts than miserable and surrounded by the dregs of humanity. :D

And that sounds like Rocket needs to stop by more often rather than wasting time answering (previously banned) trolls on Reddit...

The flat thread forums may have been adequate 12 years ago, but now they are hopelessly obsolete and suck for following a discussion. This is why Rocket prefers the Reddit format.

Totally agree. Would love it if there could be a combination of both where good threads and posts could be "liked" enough to show on the frontpage. It's impossible to follow discussions in this format, especially when a majority of posts are off topic or jokes.

Also; there was a guy in the steam group chat last night banging on about how we are all blind followers of rocket, just like the blind followers of Obama and how these forums censor everything and hates everyone with touchy opinions. Guess who that turned out to be?

It's happening in Chernarus, a fictional country with fictional circumstances placed upon it. If an AR-15 can be found in Chernarus, so can a clown mask regardless of whether it's inspired by a pre-existing title. /argument

One wrong thing doesn't justify another. I wouldn’t have expected that logical fallacy coming from you, which is why I must assume that you just want to start an argument, for the sake of the argument. <_<

There is no logical explanation for the existence of the AR-15 and no advantage by having it in game either. By saying that it is OK to implement more unrealistic items because we already have unrealistic items, you are opening the floodgates to turning this game to crap, because this way you can justify anything.

There is no logic for anything being in Chernarus, there is no back story to DayZ.

It's there because it's there, it's a fictional country bordering Russia, not a remote area in central Egypt - they have roads and everything!

I'm pretty sure they have the ability to have things shipped in, especially with two military airbases nearby as well as a civilian airstrip in southern Chernarus.

There is a difference between being wrong and not being exactly what you want.

I someone came running at me with an axe while wearing that mask I would probably have to change my underwear at some point.

Clowns scare the living bejaysus out of me.

As far as the SA goes, for me it's looking great. Every time I start to get jealous of the guys playing with it already I jump straight into the Mod.

Let us not forget that the Mod still rocks and is the reason we are all here :)

Rocket said on Reddit that it would take 10 minutes from the moment they decide to release the game for it to appear on Steam...

36 people played the game already today...

Rocket is being quiet again

Not entirely sure I agree with that. I allocate a fair amount of time to answering direct questions through social media. This is:

(a) more than I give to the media (b) out of my own time

What I don't do, I concede, is give dates for release. There are multiple reasons for this, the most important of which is that it is not just me who would be bound by this date: but the entire team which now involves about 20 full-time, onsite, people.

is it possible that the game will be released before 2014?

The answer is very simple. It would be very difficult to argue anything other than "yes" as to whether such a thing is plausible. The real question would be "how likely", which is actually a question that should only be asked (and only answered) by those who can fully understand the implications and factors involved in answering it.

By this, I mean someone who understand the risks and variables involved with making something that has the architecture (but not exact operation) of an MMO.

I also think that question is the lesser when compared with "should the game be released this year?" That is the question that is asked whenever something is made that is releasable.

Obviously, he has made countless promises that were broken.

In 2012 I said that DayZ had to be out by the end of the year to achieve what we wanted to. It wasn't, and we didn't. That cost us. That cost us in many ways. It cost me personally, because I had to spend another year in the Czech Republic that was unplanned. There's only one person to blame for all that and it's me, and I've been down the road of apologizing and explaining many times before.

While the difference between what I said and a promise might not matter to some, it matters a great deal to me. What I thought I was doing was being honest... "we have to do this, or else". Well - the "or else" happened and this is it.

what do you, Rocket or anyone else working on the game, "think"?

What I think is simple. We are making a foundation. The foundation I believe that a multiplayer game of this nature needs. This came from a decade of modding ArmA, and involved me pushing programmers and team members to the absolute brink over the last year.

This is not a game launch that will be shoveled full of features, pretty artwork, or polish. What I want is very simple. I want a robust, well engineered, framework for the future. Something that we can test. It might be really rough around the edges visually... underneath it is built from solid steel.

When you cut all the bullshit, all the scandals with "promises", competitors, the "moment being lost", and hype wasted... it is so damn simple: make a good game.

Our first step is not the alpha you want. It is the alpha we need to build the future.

I smell 2014 release here :(

I reckon it'll be out this year but I won't surprised if it isn't... p.s quoted this earlier ;)

Again a logical fallacy. Just because it's fictional and because we don't know the back story means that we should allow ANYTHING?

Wouldn't you agree that there should be limits as to not adversely affect plausability and turn the game into a silly and pathetic phantasy shooter?

For me, putting Payday masks in is a dubious decision, as I couldn't take the game as seriously while being surrounded by Payday robbers. It starts with a Payday mask and ends with alien weaponry, UFOs and exploding super tank zombies...

IMO there should be more things to which you can relate IRL instead of letting fantasies run freely.

There are plenty games already that allow for that.

I think in the end it all comes down to the question: How much fiction can we allow, before the game can't be taken seriously anymore? Am I really that alone with my opinion? :o

Seriously, I've been playing the mod over a year and never get bored.

There does seem to be a lot of people playing like it's battlefield or cod but the funny thing about that is that they have never really played DayZ properly and are therefore very impatient and quite bad at the game, so they are easy to deal with.

There are also a lot of good servers still.

And the devs have continued to work on making it better, you should try re-installing and having fun with it. When the SA releases it will be a pleasant surprise.

That's what I tell myself anyway

God I feel so bad for rocket and the idiots he has to put up with on a daily basis. I hope when he finishes his goals for days, that he will take a long vacation and relax. He has already earned such a right.

Yeah...Maybe take a few months off and go climb a mountain or something...Oh...Wait... (I jest...I jest!) :P

No, it simply means that what's acceptable to you is based on what YOU want, it's logically sound, you're just being a baby.

You base the decision on the adding of masks being 'wrong', they are wrong to YOU.

Now, if you want a real logical fallacy, look at what you wrote - slippery slope argument - that's a logical fallacy, not just something you don't agree with.

Nowhere has it been stated how they are going to be handled, the items exist in real life and can thus exist in DayZ if realism is what you're touting, it's not fiction - they are real tangible objects in the real world.

Now get off your high horse and making yourself look like an idiot by throwing around words you seem to have trouble comprehending.

Pretty much, it's fucking silly, I can understand Rocket being a fan of Payday and being friendly with the team, it doesn't mean you have to shoehorn in their character's masks into your game that is based in the middle of Russia in a zombie apocalypse scenario..

It will be even worse if these are relatively common, I feel like I am playing Payday instead of DayZ.. and in my opinion that game while it was okay for a few hours was overwhelmingly average, I don't want to be reminded of it constantly.

Please remove them. Keep the game authentic and immersive.

What's next, Mario hats?

I haven't moaned about any direction for DayZ at the end of the day it's their game. However this quote from a user on reddit summed my opinion up perfectly.
