Quick update for 19 November 2013

That is part of our stability work. One of the major problems we have now is inconsistent state of the players character when respawning/logging in. When you die, sometimes you death is processed sometimes it's not, or sometimes there has been weird issues with the database.

At best, it has been causing problems saving the state of the character. At best, it has been causing crashes of the entire server and all the clients connected. In order to make it more stable, myself and one of the programmers have been refactoring the client into game process so that it is more streamlined and robust.

I may be bad at my job, wrong, and many other things, but I am no liar.

They have a long way to go yet, they only have 1/4 of the zombies, loot items and players on a server still. Things could go wrong when the extra load on the server is put to the test. But great work Dean and the dev team really good progress and were really gratefully to revive progress about the per alpha testing.

I just mentioned this in another thread but I thougth I might as well mention it here.

The mod hasnt even been out 2 years. Im not sure at exactly what point they decided to make a SA but even 2 years isnt a long time to develop a video game.

Many games that had huge expectations ended up as huge disappontments because of rushed release dates.

The DayZ devs could likely have pushed out a SA easily already and racked in cash. The fact they havnt shows me they are taking their time and treating the game like their work of art rather than a money scheme.

Lets be happy these guys actually take pride in their work and care about their consumers

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for sharing your thought.

I honestly don't really care about the whole game being delayed as it doesn't make a difference to what we're at now other than improving the overall game concepts and designs throughout it's time in development. The longer we wait, the longer we'll be pleased with what we've waited for.

Not sure why the majority of people think this announcement means we are close to release? Haven't you guys been following the announcements for the last 2 months?

Every time a goal is reached, another problem pops up that must be fix before release. When you fix something or add something it inevitably breaks something else (new engine architecture) and I wish rocket had not posted until release was ready. Don't get me wrong I love this game and I cant wait to play but there is no point releasing information to the plebs because people read into it to much and it builds hype.

Its like dangling candy in front of a kid and telling him he cant have it while, at the same time you tell him how good it is and how much you are enjoying it.

What exactly do you people want?

Rocket goes media silent - "omg this is gay, why is the dev team not communicating with us, ect."

Rocket tells us about the standalone - "OH GOD STOP TELLING ME ABOUT THE STANDALONE, it's not fair!"

And if you seriously think they're just sitting around "enjoying the game," then you're just fucking stupid. Sorry, but that simply is not the case. Developing games really isn't a walk in the park. It's not easy, and it's usually not even fun. Oh - and your fans all seem to hate you while you are making said game. What about that seems enjoyable to you?

Your right, Rocket and etc should just start rushing out there games whether they are a finished product or not and quit involving and communicating with their major fan base. They should generally stop caring so much and just become one of those developers who push out games as money schemes. It makes me so mad they are trying so hard and want to keep the hardcore fans involved in the making of this game. It also makes me so mad they keep us update with game progress.

Why would they actually try this hard and care so much? Its bull shit.

PS

In all seriousness, your viewpoint is half way understandable. We are used to devs and publishers who ignore their consumers and make games purely for money. Not hearing shit about a game until a release date is the norm.

Fan boy detected! Good work on reading into what I said and making it waaaay over the top. When did I say that rocket is being to quiet??? I thought the media silence was a good idea. No game does what Rocket is doing and the reason is that it build hype and wastes time.

Do you really read what I wrote and think that I am implying that they are sitting around playing the game to troll us? You my friend are the "fucking stupid" one

Its people like you, blind fan boys, who cant take any kind of constructive criticism and act like kids when someone offers "negative" feedback, grow up.

You didn't, but a lot of people do. He was talking about them.

The fact that no one else does it doesn't automatically make it a bad thing. I for one think it's a breath of fresh air and I can't see it wasting too much time or building too much hype (if you take it reasonably).

SalamanderAnder's post sounded more personal than it was intended to be, I think. It's just that "constructive criticism" from the people waiting for the standalone can get exhausting sometimes and strangely schizophrenic, hence I made that picture he posted. It just goes to show Rocket can't win, regardless of how he handles things. Don't take it too personal.

On a different note:

I wonder what rocket means by dress rehearsal....

Lol, okay. You can call me a "fan boy" all you want, but you're clearly scarce here, so let me fill you in. When rocket went media silent around September/October, all you saw on this forum were complaints. Now they give us information, and you say, and I QUOTE,

Its like dangling candy in front of a kid and telling him he cant have it while, at the same time you tell him how good it is and how much you are enjoying it.

There is a difference between "feedback" and whining for no reason, and this is definitely the latter. And for the record, I wasn't calling you stupid. What I said was that if one really thinks that the devs are purposely trolling us, then one is fucking stupid. Try reading next time before you fly off the handle and dig yourself into a deeper hole by calling names when that comment wasn't really directed at you, if you don't believe that to be the case. And moreover, if you don't believe it to be the case, then don't post it.

Furthermore, there is a serious factual error here. They aren't telling us "how much they are enjoying the game" or "how good it is." In fact, every post from rocket that I've read has actually indicated that the game has some serious issues - I.E. not good. i.e. not enjoyable yet. That's the whole reason it isn't out yet, genius.

Rocket: One of the the biggest problems we faced with zombie collision avoidance is the initial path when zombie gets a new target as there does not exist any trail-waypoints (breadcrumbs) so we rely on straight line. This sometimes leads through objects. We tried to employ path-planner just for initial path but this is not usable. Whole system is too connected with original AI and even after some hacking it show up that strategic path is too rough and operational path needs to be created too what is very performance/memory wise very demanding.

Man. That sounds soooo fun. My fanboyism is just getting ridiculously out of control when I read about collision avoidance and path-planners. Mmm. Makes my fucking fanboy mouth water. I'm getting a boner just thinking about all the programming and shit that has to go into that. /s

Thank you, Rocket.

It will indeed be done when it's done and I'm excited watching the whole thing unfold in real time. The open production policy you've tried to manage is admirable.

It really is..he is a persistent bastard and can go at it with the trolls, naysayers and gloomy pricks as good as anyone and keep plugging along working away pumping out a game, and more often than not be in high spirits. Gaming needs more devs like the Rocketeer.

Would you go on a date with me, Het?

I really hope I have the freedom to wear a dress in SA, if I feel fabulous one day.

I will buy and play this game when it is released. :)

I will wait patiently for it. B)

I don't mind if the devs don't give me updates on the progress of the game as it will not sway my decision to buy the game when is released.

I don't want to have to watch the forums when it is released to see if it is playable, unlike another game I'm watching.  >:(

I bought BF3 before it was released and went through a time of patches crashes and other stuff that made it seem unplayable. :o

The game will come out when it is ready. And we will all be ready to play it. :D

:beans:   for everyone!!

lol, just saying

Anyway, like I said, I see where you are coming from but I think you could have been much more constructive and positive with your post to get your point by much better.

I seen where you were coming from but your post did seem kind of snubby. No offense please.

Axe murderers would definitely get a boost in fear-mongering if they were able to wear dresses and gasmasks at the same time...
