Yeah, those apartments are going to be intense. Imagine when we see barricades implemented. They might become these weird kind of internally contested player held zones where people will be doing CQB, maybe even trying to hold off zombie hoards (if we do indeed see a day when 100+ players and 3000 zombies is feasible). And just look at Nether, trying to say that the "verticality" of their map is unique. Psh. I will accept no substitutes. I think it will probably be at least 5 - 10 years before we see anything that can remotely rival the scope and magnitude of this game.

It will be just like Stalingrad! Bottom floor, other unknown group of players, top floor friendly group of players who are deciding what to do with these guys.

Heh i could see it now

Two rival clans barricaded in the same apartment, fighting. That would be funny and awesome.

- dayz server is lagging with only 10 players online ... (dropping / picking up items)

- zomie animations look awfull

- melee looks awfull

- zomies (players?) clippping through walls.

- players are sliding

- and so on ....

right now it seems like the game is not even close to a release (and shouldn't be)

There is one reason in that list that is an actual reason why the game hasn't been released yet.

The rest don't matter.

just watch the stream .. every 5 minutes u see a new bug that just doesn't look accaptable (not even for the alpha).

and why would anyone believe the game can be released within this year if the server can't even handle 10 players right now.

No it looks great for an alpha, actually!

And it can handle that many. He just talked about the sliding players and it wasn't something he was concerned about, it's just a player getting stuck in one part of an animation (I think that was the reason he gave). He's already said they're getting great server performance with 15+ people (I think into the 20s).

^They're well beyond their minimum server performance they're looking for with that many.

how can you say the server is running well when

- players are sliding

- picking up / putting down items takes 5 seconds

- rocket get's the yellow chain / server not responding message

with only 10 players online.

I'm telling you what they've told us as far as their benchmark performance targets.

You're assuming that what you're seeing on screen is a catastrophic problem that will take months to fix. I don't think they feel that way at all. It's not the impression I get anyways. Their tone is about touching up these issues and then making sure it works for 50+ people.

What did you expect? A finish game?

He said in stream the haven't put the optimizations from the svn branch into the steam build yet. But the general vibe I got from his responses was not next week for sure :(

Just before release. Minecraft was known as Cavegame, it only had the world rendering implemented, was crashing, the world rendering took many many minutes and only rendered like 30 meters away. Please tell me, which one sounds more alpha ready? I dare you. o,o

Standalone with the 50+ players good server fps-stuff implemented and working.

or glitchy, empty, cavegame that had alot worse clientside performance when it hit the internet?

These types of streams should happen more. Pretty cool to sit back and watch a loosely put together demonstration. If there's a list of things to cover in a demonstration like that then you restrict the amount of chance occurrences that happen that might be worth talking about.
