November Round-up

Recommended Posts

As time passes I'm getting disgusted at the community for the extreme amount of useless speculating and impatience. Especially now with all that "Give DayZ SA" crap.

Don't lump us in with reddit, thanks.

Also, you should be able to pick left or right handed character.

I am lefty and would greatly appreciate this....

It concerns me that these people are wanting to play standalone.

It concerns me that these people have computers and internet access.

It dawns on me that there are people who would not be satisfied with dev disclosure unless there were webcams in all of the devs workspaces streaming 24/7 with live chat so they can critique and micro manage every choice each team member made.

just passing by to say this:

the following video shows several things i would love to see in the game of course:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLHU-_OhT8g

  • tedious, time consuming and dangerous reloading
  • troublesome moving through diffcult terrain
  • tripping
  • dust blowing up on impact of projectiles
  • chance of losing one's weapon when hit
  • nice gloves
  • slight slight camera wobbling effect while sprinting

I've seen that before (hopefully shipping to boot camp myself early next year) and ArmA pretty much gets the pace of combat pretty closely.

No.

Plz.

No.

If you want that you should go play a game that offers these idiotic, annoying features.

Have you tried playing the Epoch mod where, if you carry Cinder Blocks, you fall about every 5 seconds when you try to move and you can't do anything against it.

It's not realistic, it's just an annoying feature.

He should learn to take some cover when being shot at, seriously. It's his own faulth and this could be prevented if he didn't walked directly into the line of fire without cover.

Stop being so harsh to people you have different opinions compared to you.  It is really annoying.  You sound like a child.

and yes, shots have been fired.

EDIT:  to clarify, the suggested features are not "idiotic". "annoying" is just your opinion.  Some people like the idea of ultra realism.  I personally, like a middle ground between Vanilla Arma 2 and Ultra Realism.  If you disagree, say so intelligently.

Hate to be that guy, but I don't see the relevance of these videos for DayZ. I for one am looking forward to feel less like a soldier and more like an average guy experiencing the zombie apocalypse in the standalone compared to the mod.

Not hating on military simulations at all, but I think being released as a standalone gives the game an opportunity to distinguish itself a little from its Arma roots.

I'm sure not everybody feels the same, but I do think Rocket is going for a more "civilian" feel to things based on the videos and blogs of the (distant) past.

  He was trying to draw the fire off his squad.  That's why he ran and fired in the open.  Please don't comment on something like that when you have no clue what you're talking about.

Ok thats fair enough but how much realism are you after? It cant be much.  Can someone thats been in the military tell us how slow an average civvy would reload a weapon without any training? I'm betting its pretty awful.

Good one, you can actually read the description to understand what is even happening there. Like you got a clue what you're talking about. There's no reason for him to put his life on the line there in sake of the his squad taking fire or not. It could of been his last run with that idiotic movement he did there. This doesn't belong to any 'tactical' movement what so ever, he ran to the enemy on a hill without any cover at all, it almost became a suicide run thank god he survived it.

Well put it this way, if you had no training, then you would struggle to reload correctly and safely.

Not to mention without training most civilians would struggle to shoot straight.

I did military service back when it was a thing in this country, firing an (average) weapon isn't exactly sorcery.

That leads me to what I was really talking about: High grade military weapons and equipment just shouldn't really be that big a thing in the standalone in my opinion, at least made extremely rare.

Not only would this negate the "realism" problem but it would also serve this above-mentioned "civilian" feeling. I just don't see military choppers firing machine guns flying all over the place in DayZ Standalone.

I am in a pistol club at my university.  I can confirm this.  No offense to the ladies, but some of girls who have never handled a gun or played a first-person shooter have no idea how to reload a gun.  The instructors teach them and they learn obviously, but it takes some time.  It even toke me a bit of time to load my pistol when I first joined the club.  Now, I can load the pistol relatively quickly, but it toke some time.   Also, it toke sometime to become accurate.  Right now, I can fire about a 4in spread with a .22 pistol from 15 yards away (14m-ish).  The instructors say that is pretty good.  Against, I human size target, I landed every shot on the torso and head from 15yrds.  The main problem with first time shooters is bad stance and over reacting to recoil.

that wasn't even my intention. but the video coincidentally contains some features i really would love or at least like to see in the game at some point.

  • tedious, time consuming and dangerous reloading

because i really want  that "time" would play a much much greater role. if time would have a certain impact on various actions and situations you would immediately create a new tactical layer to your whole gameplay. (http://www.reddit.com/r/DayZBulletin/comments/1pa4yf/its_about_time/)

  • troublesome moving through diffcult terrain

i don't mean that you should stumble with every 5th step. but how about running through a field whilst being exposed to extreme weather conditions, sprinting through a forest, running  through difficult terrain, sprinting in a pitch black night? add at least chances -> would create tension if balanced accordingly

  • tripping

    ^ as above

  • dust blowing up on impact of projectiles

    purely for atmosphere purposes

  • chance of losing one's weapon when hit

because why not? again just playing with chances and dependencies and  proper balancing

  • nice gloves

has anyone ever thought about them when speaking about clothes and personalisation?

  • slight slight camera wobbling effect while sprinting

just a personal preference (and really only whilst sprinting), i do however realize that it wouldn't reflect the real sight of a person. again just for atmosphere purposes

I would not at all mind long animations (for loading machineguns and fixing cars for example), but I think it is important that you can cancel the animation halfway through.

It really, really sucks to be trapped going through the cooking motions while somebody casually strolls up to you and shoots you in the neck.

Arma 2 and Arma 3 already have head bob.  How is your purposal any different?  I currently use head bob because you can tell how fast you are moving and in what stance you are in from the head bob.

EDIT: GRAMMAR

This is why I asked how much realism you wanted. I actually agree that high grade military weapons should be very rare, but the other side to playing a civilian is that no one would know how to use many weapons. You said its not hard to fire an average weapon. That may be true, if you handed me a loaded m249 saw then as long as the safety is off (I'm assuming it has one) then all you have to do is point and pull the trigger and try not to fall over. BUT could anyone without training reload the thing? I highly doubt it. This why I ask about realism.
