I rally really hope they will not exagerate wit all this wear and tear, as it seems now, if you get hit by Z or Human - go get a whole new inventory cause it will be useless...

In all fairness, if you get shot in real life or attacked by a disease human, I'd assume you'd come out of the encounter looking pretty rough.

I'm glad they're not going the route of -

>get shot

>hide in cover until your health regenerates

i have to agree and i dont mind getting my items damaged if a zed hits me. The point is to avoid them and run like a mother fucker when you see them. Imagine having a M4A1 and you just picked up a Red dot scope for it, you encounter some zeds in town while looking for food and one zed smackes your gun and your scope is broken.....I can live with that and it will make us more afraid of engaging or testing the zeds hit range.

Eh, I don't think that is the worst case, but best case is the network bubble works like a charm and rocket presses the big red button we have all been waiting for.  Though I can't wait to test it out, I hope there is a decent level of polish in it, as well as things to test.

Anyone who has even remotely followed the development of this game knows that there is no way a release in one month is a "worse case" scenario.

so out of concern for the typical kill on sight game play, you introduce the ability to detain other players.

So some clan of 12 year olds can wound you enough toknock you down, then bandage you to keep you alive, then keep you chained up.

Really.

Really.

Have you lost your fucking mind?

The restraint system is simply another gameplay option, of which we can never have enough of imo. With the ability to struggle out of said restraints, how is it any different to "a clan of 12 year olds" holding a gun to your head at the moment, or knocking you out and detaining you in the dragging animation?

It's an extra dynamic when you consider things such as forced blood transfusions and the like...perhaps some buggery (if you're into that sort of thing).

Great devblog and like Orlok I have to keep my fanboyism in check. The improvements are looking great and it is nice to see some time spent on features beyond what we find in the mod. Hope it comes out soon, but as always I am more concerned with the game being good and those two concepts do not often match up.

This is DayZ, worst case is it goes into Duke Nukem Forever status, best case is in the next month or two.

As soon as Rocket hits the red button and the game is available for download I will be like: "Honey, no sex tonight!"

"Sex? What is sex, there is only SURVIVAL!"  But really, it'll probably end up being an all nighter, kinda like when Dayz first came out, here's hoping Rocket can hit that sweet spot again. (Though from what I've seen, it's pretty much assured.)

Not without Zombies included from initial Alpha release

The current player restraining system has a vital flaw which makes the system pretty much obsolete. The people who are not seeing this may be because everyone is aproaching the system from the view of someone who has restraining items.

Imagine a player versus player scenario where you are outnumbered/outgunned/outgeared. Your opponent wants to restrain you so that they can rob your stuff undamaged. If you surrender, the chances of you are getting robbed and losing the most valuable things in your inventory are pretty high. Ofcourse the handcuffs will not be used for this purpose only, at least in a couple of months when alpha is released. There are people who roleplay and simply want to detain other players while not giving any harm to them, just to protect themselves. But let's be honest here. That kind of attitude is really rare.

However, if you try to escape or try to fight back even if you would most probably die, you will have your opponent consume some ammunition and while doing so, you will get your items on you damaged so that your opponent may not use everything he loots from your body.

Surrender scenario: You lose most/all of the things on you and also it is not guaranteed that you live afterwards. Your opponent may even kill you soon after he robs your undamaged items.

Fight back/attempt to escape scenario: You may lose all of the things on you but you will do a kind of harm to your opponent, ammunition and loot wise.

The solution to this problem can be found once the developers try to approach to this from someone's point of view who is about to get robbed. Maybe by making longer hours/days of surviving more rewarding. Such reward(s) that you may beg for your life and accept to get handcuffed and get robbed.

As said, i hop it will not be exagerated like in the vid (i know, work in progress, showcase, etc), but one bullet should not destroy each and every item in your shirt.

Also, in the vid rocket says damadged boots will hurt your feet - but the damage should still be less than if you walked around bare-foot...

Dean has clarified that this was a bug post dev blog, and made sure to stress during the dev blog that the damage values were far from final.

If you are shot in the knee wearing jeans, will the items in your pockets be damaged, or only the jeans?

As the game register the exact location of the bullet impact It would be nice if you need to shot the pockets area for the items to become damaged.

From what I gather it's a conscious design decision rather than a technical limitation; with the chances of being shot in the pockets are quite low, thus negating the implementation of the mechanic as a deterrent to shoot on sight. In some situations, compromises have to be made with game design taking precedence over realism.
