Gamescom - August 2013 - Interviews/Gameplay

Recommended Posts

I think I will reserve my overall judgement on what we are seeing at gamescom until i see how Zombies react and look.

I have a feeling we won't be seeing much zombie footage due to this new AI proposal that they might be implementing. It will just cause another shitstorm because people don't seem to understand that they're not done yet, and work can't begin until the network bubble is complete.

I just watched the videos; can happily say that I'm very pleased with how it's looking.
There's still a world of work to be done, but it's looking sensational already. I'm loving the detail of some of the animation, and generally just how different the game looks like it handles now.

So excited for Alpha.

The environment and sky looks absolutely amazing. The artists really did a good job!

And even with how basic this looks at the moment it really shows how deep and detalied the mechanics will eventually be.

I've missed being really excited about the standalone. Welcome back sweet feeling.

I got a bit of a boner over the sky too; didn't wanna mention it incase I had just been oblivious to something had been shown already, aha.

hi all,

had a question about what was shown, i think that loading ammunition into magazines is the right way forward, however, i don't think that it goes far enough. I'd like to see being able to find or recover spent brass, find primers, powder and projectiles then be able to craft ammo that way. I'd also like to see weapon wear, so imagine if you have had a weapon for 4 or 5 days, parts start wearing out, the firing pin wears down, causing stopages etc. I'd also like to see weapon malfunctions as a whole, double feeds etc. Is anything like going to be implmented or is it simply wishful thinking on my part?

stop trolling ...  (i hope)

have you ever handled a real gun? because firing pins don't break or wear down after a few days

That could be possible in the alpha. Nothing is permanent yet, so you can send your suggestions in the proper area. :)

Item condition and degradation is confirmed, but the effects of damaged gear and poor maintenance, for the most part, are still unknown.

Reloading spent cartridges is more of a sport-shooter / firing range thing. Not common outside the US, AFAIK.

I'd guess fresh ammo would be more common than loose primers and powder in the Chernarus setting. But I'm sure somebody knows better.

@ leon. And shoes don't wear out after a few days, needing replaced. But that's pretty much confirmed to be a feature of SA.

Accelerated wear and tear, for the chance to increase micro-managment / gear maintenance opportunities is a necessary evil.

There is already quite a lot of clothing variation available, including pink starter caps.

This is not a concern.

I wonder how the loot-spawns look if you're the first one in the city/area, shame that in the showcases with Matt & Rocket most places have already been looted by others so only scraps are left behind.

Ign covered some standalone footage with Matt Lightfoot

http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/08/22/day-z-a-tour-of-the-standalone-gamescom-2013

Enjoy :)

Starting at 2:20: Walking inside the house / through doors doen't look very smooth

Starting at 8:10: The other player keeps sliding instead of walking / limping ..

5:55 / 8:20 / ... : Still those horrible bloom effects ...

- IMHO all the moving, running, crouching animations look worse than in ARMA 2 !

- Zombie AI still sucks

- Why can't you still not run (or move fast) on stairs?

If this build took about one year, a working and playable alpha can't be expected until 2014.

(Also i see(!) no improvement over the E3 build)

snip

Animations will continue to be worked upon all through development.

Zombie AI might be completely rewritten from scratch, they are debating it at the moment.

Bloom effects can still be turned off at your leisure.

Warning, don't look at the comments.. xD

why, are they telling the truth?

and why are the dev's refusing to play without post processing effects?

why, are they telling the truth?

No *sigh*, most of them don't know what they're talking about, they have no idea what pre-alpha means, they complain about the zombies even though the zombies will probably be majorly reworked, some even blame Matt for being a terrible developer because of how he plays in the playthrough when in-fact he's a production-assistant, not strictly a dev and the list goes on and on...
