at best they said probably...even in the last couple vids he said maybe in a few weeks or month! everything else was pure speculation and interpretation by forum-users and communities. Barrett you kill me here!

edit: they focused on a bulletproof MMO server-game-architecture! this is their foundation! if this isn't stable everything else will collapse.

They said it, do some research on gamespot, IGN and so on. I'm out of this thread to prevent "release date wars".

You are out of this thread. You said it, do some research on my quote.

At one stage Rocket said the game must come out before Christmas. He has given reasons for why that didn't happen.

At no stage since has a date been given. It was to be reviewed in June and in the last couple of days they have said it will be soon.

Magazines, journos and those "celebrity" youtubers know nothing in regards to a release date - just like the rest of us.

One day you will wake up and it will be in the Early Access area of Steam.

EDIT: C'mon, what the hell does the date you joined the forum have to do with anything?

Mister Berrett Killz if you do not know why the game was not realeased in December then YOU would be the most uninformed in this thread.

Cheers!

I'm surprised at the amount of accounts that have been created solely to trash the DayZ standalone...a game in Alpha. Its not anywhere CLOSE to being finished. What we'll be playing is going to be an ALPHA test, and we'll have just about a year until it hits Beta. Then a couple of months until ACTUAL release. But from what I've seen, some assholes are going to treat it like a full game like the idiots they are. Listen, it hasn't even been in development but for six freaking months. I can understand some criticism, but acting like this is going to be a total failure? What do YOU know? Explain to me just how you can see into the "future"? From what I understand, our whiny little friend has sent as many poorly trained conscripts from the dwindling Cunt army as he could to rage us into submission. Your mistake. We're a well oiled war machine, and your baseless arguments and poor grammar will never sway the masses. When the standalone is FULLY released, it'll be the best motherfucking game ever and you'll be a thing of the past.

Uhhh... It's not my job to defend dayz standalone. I feel like I'm fairly active on the forums but I still understand some of the criticism.

There's a lot of buzz, among a small group of loyal devotees, around the SA development. I think a lot of people are feeling let down because we hear "its an alpha, its an alpha, its in alpha" but they don't release the public alpha. So now we have this new bullshit term PRE-Alpha, what's next post-pre apha? It seems to me if they were comfortable with all these bugs glitches and "alpha" issues, they would release the game and let the bug squashing begin. Obviously there is something that the community doesn't know about the state of DayZ development. I'm not sure what it is. Maybe there are problems with funding. Maybe they are making the game ten times more amazing than we could ever imagine. Unfortunately, in relation to the latter, the E3 footage just doesn't show that much. I'm not saying it's not there below the surface, I'm just saying it looks a lot like the mod as far as bugs we're seeing in this footage. And the "we're getting to that" answer is just getting old. I don't care what they say from here on out as long as it isn't "we're working on that". You can't be working on everything at all times. This is why the devblogs were supposed to be important. They could showcase what you were actually working on. Anyway, I digress.

Haters gonna hate ya'll. Why does this community have an uncontrollable urge to lash out with full fangs and claws at any criticism. It makes us all seem like a bunch of unconfident fanboys with nothing better to do than cry anytime someone doesn't like our favorite toy. Come on folks, grow up. To the moderators, thank you (most of you) for showing restraint at this time. When ya'll lash out it's ten times worse than when the average turd cries about haters.

So much trolling, uninformed or unresearched people and tears. But yeah this is internet so I shouldn't expect anything less. Go play the mod, BF, CoD or whatever you people play. Check back again in beta because your criticism mostly isn't helpful because you're focusing on wrong things right now. There's big difference between whining about a bug or missing feature than reporting issues.

Cummon peeps, let's try and be nice to each other and focus on the topic at hand.

On topic: @DrGonzo - Many share you're frustration at hearing "it's being worked on" from the devs but that's a result of people (Journo's included) asking the same questions over and over again. I've seen some of the journos ask some good questions but for the most part they're all asking the same boring questions that have already been addressed and discussed at length by the devs.

Some of them should be ashamed to call themselves journalists, there's so many different things people want to know about the plans for the game and yet they ask the predictable "So, Rocket tell us about the new crafting mechanic". The fact is that almost every aspect of the game is "being worked on". It may get boring to hear but it's just the truth. It does get monotonous hearing it over and over again but what else are they to say when they're working on it?

I would caution people against two things...

One - To the people offering criticism, there is a way to do it so that you're not being inflammatory and misinformed.

Two - To the people decrying people offering criticism, you're sort of proving the point of all the folks who say that these forums are intolerant of dissent.

I do want to raise the issue of the animations again, from a civilian/military perspective.

Are we sure this is something we want? I am not entirely supportive of this effort to make our characters "look" like civilians (i.e. like they don't know what they're doing). I have never thought, with the mod, that the animations looked overly "military", they just looked like they knew their way around a weapon (which should be self-explanatory in a survival context).

Again, the animation with the player holding his/her weapon parallel to the forearm is a cool "slow-walking/idle" addition. However, the chicken-wing shooting stance and a few of the other animations just strike me as blatantly there to make the character seem sort of bumbling and inexperienced. It just sort of brings me out of the whole experience to a degree. Have they said anything about stances progressively getting better as our characters "learn" the ins and outs of combat? I'd like my character to improve over time, aesthetically of course.

I don't really like the "civilian" way the player now holds the weapon either. One thing that would be good is that initially your player would hold guns like that but after you have survived a certain amount of time maybe you could then hold/handle the weapon in a more professional way.

That would mean you could tell if your looking at an experienced survivor or not, if he looks like he knows what he's doing then you know he may be carrying some nice loot.

Personally i like that the stances look more civilian it works perfectly for me as i've never held a gun in my life, but saying that i do like the idea of this changing as your character survives longer.

To those bitching about the lack of vehicles [cough]Gummy[/cough]

You do realize that the whole point of the alpha is to address the more important and basic issues that are quite apparent from the recent videos. Rushing a half-baked vehicle system or even including the old one for release would be completely counter-productive in this regard..

There's a reason they've only included limited weapons/areas of the map open for the internal testing so far :|

Right, and I'm hesitant to suggest that it be "kill" based (both on zombie kills and player kills) because that strikes me as both a direct encourager of PvP and/or one of those RPG-y tropes that DayZ is trying to get away from. Perhaps it should be a combination of time/kills so that one just surviving in the wilderness would more gradually learn how to hold the weapon versus someone who's more aggressive toward zombies and/or players.

Because it would be aesthetic, I don't think it'd be a "reward" for killing things per se. But, you do raise a good point, it could help supplement the changes (whatever they may be) to the humanity system by allowing the player to be aware of the level of relative competency of a player, whether they be survivor or bandit. I'd be much more suspicious of someone who looks like they know what they're doing vice some jerkoff in Cherno who's fumbling with his mags.
