DayZ Double Developer Blog 14th May 2013

Recommended Posts

Again :rolleyes: ...

The DayZ dev team is providing a lot more infos and insights than most other dev teams out there.

Now I don't mind too much myself but this is definitely NOT the case. Most games I've been following have waay better communication and give out way more info. In fact I've been following the development of Heroes&Generals lately, a game by relatively small Danish company. Early in development they've had introductory interviews with all the staff members, they have a dev blog EVERY Friday, including a short list where everyone on the team says what he worked on that week. Moreover they usually have a few more extended articles by members of the team explaining certain features in more detail. Many of the developers are also seen on the forums commenting on feedback and discussions relevant to their work. In my opinion that's what it should be like and is also what I've been seeing a lot lately.

Again :rolleyes: ...

The DayZ dev team is providing a lot more infos and insights than most other dev teams out there. In fact infos are usually not given by the devs directly but by the publishers. Most of the time these are polished teaser vids or inteviews given to official gaming mags or at the big gaming shows.

There are of course things that could have been handled better...no question..but did anyone ever see how the guys from Rockstar are doing their animations...did anyone ever saw an interview with the heightmap creator of Skyrim...did anyone ever disussed weapons stats with the lead designer of Battlefield ??? I don't think so.

Yes it was chaotic sometimes and yes the sound quality of Matts micro was horrible :P and yes without Smasht we would have missed a good part of the show blablabla..but it also has been an awesome hell of a ride and now we do not want to screw up the last days before release with the same old stupid discussions...thank you.

And for all these Dickheads and Rhinowhinos calling us fanboys...I am playing, modding and discussing games now since nearly 25 years....Go home to Kindergarden (youtube)

in answer,

if one more person says "the DayZ dev team is providing a lot more infos and insights than most other dev teams" i think i am gona scream.

The DayZ dev team is providing good amount of info. They are maybe even more open than in Arma series and that's enough for me. One big thing that rocket is doing is answering a shitload of questions almost everyday. Bohemia games are the only ones that I really follow. Others just come and I maybe watch some trailers.

Bohemia is also working on Arma 3 (another huge game) at the same time so it has to have some impact on communication and development.

//Lol one of the rocket's tweet :D

Ok it's not that related what have been discussed couple last posts.

I follow lot's of different games that are being developed. Some have a really nice structured way of releasing regular info, others go quiet for months on end and then hit you with loads of progress (or barely any sometimes). They all have different approaches.

My honest opinion is that at this point we should just take it as it comes (yes, Rocket messed up and should never have mentioned a weekly blog). Once the initial alpha build is released and people have paid money and are playing then I'd be dissapointed if we didn't see a more structured and frequent way of keeping us all informed because at that point we will be customers of their product and will be entitled to be kept in the loop.

Arma 3 alpha is doing really well at keeping everyone informed of what to expect and what they're up to, I'd like to see DayZ SA follow the same path.

I am sure you will even find independent teams sitting in some back yard garage drinking beer with their community members every friday...

you know what? this would be the best idea. take dean together with rhino and he then should confront dean with his blames and accusations. let's see what would happen.

I think the new short and sweet tweets are pretty decent - whilst a DevBlog does offer a lot more indepth insight, the tweets offer regular quick updates - and I could swear about 30% of you lot were QQing about a month ago, over the lack of development updates!?

To be honest, if I was Rocket, I wouldn't be doing a DevBlog today.

I mean, come on... Prison Architect Alpha10 build came out yesterday!

I dunno, I mean the tweets are cool. But they preclude any significant announcement. So it's sort of discouraging. Let's be honest we all sort of knew that the server architecture would be done by the time Rocket got back, so is it really that cool that we know this now?

I think what people would like, ideally, is regular small tidbit tweet updates with regular DevBlogs which are more expansive. This isn't outside of the realm of possibility. But, I don't fault them for not doing it either.

What, is Rocket gonna' tweet "So, ya... Standalone Alpha now released on Steam! #DayZSA" and that's it?

The biggest bit of information we got from the tweets so far, is that the server architecture is all set. But we still have no idea as to even a potential timetable and/or whether there's new precluding factors to an otherwise unimpeded release. There's nothing wrong with that mind you, but I'd much rather a DevBlog and a consistently released one at that.

I freaking swear to God if Bohemia Interactive installed freaking webcams to monitor Dean and the team develop the game, there would be still guys who would say: "OMG, guys, wtf, where is mah info, where dem picturzs at? Wer is alles mensch? I want ma gaem guyz"

this i agree with. I think most people like routine and knowing what is on the cards/ round the corner, regular updates and predefined points in time would keep a lot more people happy.

Wait for the E3 is all I'm going to say. The public alpha won't happen before that for sure.

Yea, Rocket can post wherever he wants, but I depend on some of you to update the forums (like you usually do) so I (& others like me) can see what's going on. So thank you! :beans:

I'm the 5% of the world that only uses 1 social media, which is Facebook. :D

Hey, new twitter screen of inventory!

@rocket2guns

No DevBlog this week, too busy getting ready for E3: but here's the latest WIP (very WIP) of the new inventory system

https://twitter.com/...0399872/photo/1

Again, won't the VICINITY loot system sort of negate any "scavenging" that they were touting? Why look under tables when I can just kneel down and see everything nearby?
