So does anyone else ever have that instant feeling of regret when they kill someone?

Recommended Posts

I noticed, that whenever I kill someone in DayZ, bandit or no, I always feel terrible. I probably have 3 murders over the course of a couple of months and all three times, I felt awful. There was one point where I actually killed someone with a lot of gear after panicking and saying friendly, that I actually clicked respawn. I also noticed, that every time I do kill someone, What I've Done by Linkin Park pops into my head.

Anyways, I was wondering, does anyone else ever feel like this when they kill someone?

I can't say that I do, which is probably a bad thing.

Some will, some won't. One question, many different opinions and approaches. Such is the way of DayZ.

StaTik, interesting that you say that and your a medic. ;)

I'm a medic on the public hive always. If you need help on OUR private hive, I will probably help you if you come on TS. If it's another private hive, I'm whatever I feel like..

Seriously, I rarely KOS unless it's a bandit. If I kill you, you probably deserved it.

For me when I kill someone I instantly regret it until i look at their gear.

And if they had nothing i put my weapon into their gear and then i take it back.

No, because if I killed someone it's because they were about to kill me. I don't just go around killing people for no reason, I don't shoot unless threatened.

I had that feeling the first 2-3 times I murdered someone. Then it just got easier and easier.

Then I went to court, and it got in the media and got messy.

Now I just play DayZ all day.

I feel bad whenever I run into someone on accident and I instinctively open fire. Especially if they're unarmed. I even feel a twinge of remorse when I have to drop a bandit. I'm just not a killer.

On Wireworld UK I have only had eight kills in six months, concentrating on the other aspects of the game instead.

Recently I became bored with all that and wanted to do more PvP, but can't bring myself to do it. Since making the decision to 'kill the next person I see', I've let 12 players run right past me. They've all seemed less geared than me, and I don't really need any more gear anyway. So I'd just be murdering to grief them, and I don't see the point.

Anyway, it's great to play on a server that lets you decide how you're going to play, rather than just Shoot-On-Sight.

At first yes but you get used to it. You tell yourself things like "I had to do it" and others. Its the Unnecessary ones that get to you most.

The DayZ experience ruins peoples morals.

I used to attempt to either team up with, help or ignore other players but the sheer number of times that ended up in my death has changed how I play.

I no longer help people. I actively avoid them and when I can't then I will most definitely fire first. No regret, no remorse, no more senseless deaths for me.

Feelings in a videogame? And everybody agreeing to it? You guys are taking this game too seriously...

I am usually not KoSing anyone, but if I do, I feel nothing...

I'm the type of player who likes the thrill of the hunt, I scour the land for players and will follow them until I'm in such a position as to end their life. A bandit. I'm not the type who sits in a bush with a sniper rifle picking off people from the safety of distance, infact I very rarely stay in one spot unless I'm AFK and only go into towns and cities initially to get starting gear, survival tools and enough food and drink to last me until I come across an unfortunate player who can provide me more. I'm not really a good bandit either, it's usually 50/50 whether or not I kill the target or get killed by him.. but that's how I like to play, that's my style.

I don't really play DayZ to run around finding good loot, vehicles and surviving/killing zombies anymore, I will actively engage an armed player within a suitable range and get my hands on loot in that way. I never shoot unarmed players and never team up. I choose to play alone and never feel bad about killing anyone anymore, to be fair I used to months ago but I've died countless times trying to be friendly and because of that I now choose to be the one doing the killing.

People who play DayZ like me are why so many grumble about PvP, but if everyone was friendly wouldn't you get bored? I think if one feels bad when killing other players then it simply, in DayZ terms, means you are not a bandit. When that feeling of sorrow goes you start to become ruthless and cold, will get stick for your actions but enjoy it.

It's your story, tell it however you want. I wont feel anything if I kill you, well.... except your dead body for loot.

Excellent!

I still feel bad when ever I kill someone that was not an instant threat... I started a post called "Salvation City Strikes Back" that kinda touches on it.

I ended up killing a fresh(ish) spawn yesterday, I asked over and over if he was friendly because anyone can be deadly on Origins because 1 makarov mag is enough to kill 8 people with a shot to the head. He didnt' respond so an enfield round found its way into his head..

Funny thing is too, I got into the exact same situation with a bandit but the first shot didn't kill and he shouted friendly, so I stopped and plugged the hole in his gut lol

I really don't understand you guys who keep saying that you feel bad after shooting someone. It's a mod. People respawn, and an hour later they're back to where they were before you killed them. Aaaand, i can guarantee that they've killed someone too.

Edit: Unless they're freshspawns
