Private Evans 1303 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) I respect the work that Rocket and the team have done for this SA but are you seriously exited about cans of beans under chairs? Is that going to be the final implementation regarding the looting system? So no opening cupboards, boxes or trunks etc? Just stuff spread everywhere? I guess it would mean a lot of work or something but it makes me wonder how much work since it seems that after a long time you've "only" managed to make all doors openable (not sure if that's even a word)...And yes, it is a lot better loot system but I guess I've been playing too much Fallout where the looting system is purely awesome since you can go through pretty much everything and it takes time to loot a house properly. Have you btw ever considered going for something similar than in FO3 for example? I just can't get myself jumping up and down over a few trinkets under a bar stool that's all.All in all I like what I've heard and seen so keep up the good work!In Fallout or the Elder Scrolls games (same engine) you can not really open chests, boxes,or cupboards and take stuff out, you activate a so called "container" which opens a pop up menue and an attached loot table. In this games this is mixed with handplaced loot that you can find in the gameworld ( on tables etc etc). It is nothing more than a script that can be used for any kind of static object like furnitures, dead bodies, vehicles, barrels blablabla....Good thing, the player can also put stuff in such a container. Also locks and keys can be attached. For example if our DayZ fridge would be used as such a container, all fridges placed in Chernarus would use the same loot table .This could include the chance of finding nothing, all kind of rotten stuff but also a can of pepsi etc...could also be used for cupboards, trash bins etc.Would the same system work for DayZ or would it be an immersion breaker ??thoughts ? Zeppa 562 Posted February 7, 2013 I dont think it would break immersion.. IMO its not necessary to have all animations and shit for openin one fridge door... simple inventory menu would do fine... at least for a place holder, if there has to be opening door animations etc those could be added later.. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) We already have something quite similar to Fallout style containers with the function of tent storage. The tent is basically a static object placed in the game world, and nobody complains about lack of animated flaps etc. when accessing their inventories.I'd be more than happy if certain in-world objects became loot-spawning containers to suppliment the new loot spawn system. And if it means less work overall to achieve the goal of "authentic" feeling scavenging, it's an awesome idea.Only minimal animation would be necessary to give the impression of searching a cupboard. If underground bases and buried player stashes are going to become a feature, these kinds of containers will have to make an appearance at some point anyway. I would also like to see fridges, ovens, cupboards, desks and waste bins to work this way. Mixed with all this handplaced stuff on shelves, under tables etc like seen in the video :) would be awesome.@ chabowski..yap I forget to mention the tents...they work the same way.....another examample would be suitcases and bags... Zarniwoop 1193 Posted February 7, 2013 Hello there,I have a question:Seeing as there are only 3 possible faces at this time for charswouldn't it be easier to port the Arma II character faces to DayZ SA than making whole new ones?I mean isn't it easier to modify already existent character faces than make new ones?I searched this but found no asnwers. Regards :D
DemonGroover 8836 Posted February 7, 2013 I dont know about only three faces - i though it was three races.Could be wrong though and i wouldnt be surprised this early on.
Zeppa 562 Posted February 7, 2013 Also I hope the spawn system introduced in the video wont place stuff in stupid places... on the tables and shelves its all good but I find it little weird if you find can of beans from a open fireplace...
Bat (DayZ) 230 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) I dont know about only three faces - i though it was three races.Could be wrong though and i wouldnt be surprised this early on.Yes three races and new faces will be made later on. I suspect the models/faces will be borrowed from ArmA 3 which worries me a little, I'd like to have characters that look less military, with different haircuts and facial hair. amradude 289 Posted February 7, 2013 I don't know why Team Rocket didn't go for a EVE Online style of character/face creation, where you can basically make a character that looks just like you because the EVE character creation system has so much detail.I don't like the idea of Team Rocket making faces for you to choose from. Let us make our own character faces.

Let us make our own character faces.Rocket said they thought about allowing players to upload their own textures for the faces (that's actually supported already in ArmA) but a phrase called 'time to penis' came to mind, (how long until someone makes a penis out of what you have), so that's why they probably won't allow people to upload their own faces.I just looked it up EVE Online character customisation and it's looked really impressive, as such something like that would probably require a lot of work, time probably better spent elsewhere at the moment tbh. What i care about is Day-Z Standalone having a basic face creation system at launch or after launch, there really is no reason why it shouldn't be in the game. How small is Team Rocket/Bohemia Interactive Dev Team for this game ?I know Bohemia isn't Bethesda but come on, little things like a basic character face creation system (it doesn't even have to be as detailed & complex as EVE Onlines) should be in the game. For those who aren't familiar with Eve Online Character Creation system here is a vid, imagine this system with a Day-Z theme, it would be epic. facet 66 Posted February 7, 2013 Realism - why all food, drinks in Chernarus are US made? I know, some can be, because here was troops, but all? In local supermarkets? Adding new bitmaps to models will be not that hard, but effect will be cool. All zeds don't looks like a cola drinkers. Maybe Bummer, but he is in L4D2 not in Dayz :D

RiggsUK 69 Posted February 7, 2013 New loot spawns look great and more rewarding to find (It was like playing mario, with all the coins in one place before). That was one of my major gripes, as it's such a large part of the game. Also i wonder if because guns can degrade and such, clothes could become dirtier and even slighty clean up in rain or by swimming. Would wearing day-glo slippers make it hard to climb steep grass in the rain?

I'm not against the idea of containers, I would just hope they're used sparingly
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) The new "secret" inventory system, whilst we've got no solid info, pretty much guarantees no more lists of goodies. It'd make sense, in a Deus Ex/Xcom/Resident Evil style system to just make containers different sizes and shapes of grids. It sounds good to me anyway. The grid style would mean container inventories will make sense, no more piles of 20 fuel tanks in 1 tent etc.And ammo crates can't be hacked in with copies of every gun in the game! :P EDIT:I hope we'll be able to fold clothes to save space, otherwise my wardrobe is going to be serverely restricted.I don't want my fancy, going-out, smoking jacket to take up most of my invetory.
