DayZ Standalone Discussion

Recommended Posts

I have a feeling there is months more of development work ahead - the upcomming arch-play-test is going to probably expose weeks of additional work, bug-fixing and tweaks. I think we should brace ourselves (if not already) that there is I'm going to guess, 3-6 more months before we see SA. Take it with a grain of salt, but as a software engineer I've seen it happen time and time again - software takes a long time.

"@rocket2guns Well, I'm actually expecting the standalone to be released mid-April, around 1 year after the mod release."

Rocket - "Well I sure hope its before that.... I'll be on my way to Mt Everest from 1 April - 1 June :) So that's a good clue"

With that being said.. I somehow doubt he would put a two month hold on DayZ development considering what he plans to release is still an 'alpha'.

I'm disappointed about Chernarus largely staying the same, I wanted more cities and stuff. I understand for some retarded reason that the two map makers are in prison, but surely they can get a Laptop and develop from there? Not like they're doing anything else.

It's not staying same.. If you have read about it, it will include new areas and new settlements. It also extends the current ones.

The biggest surprise for me in this update is that horses and magic will be available in the standalone.

I have always wanted to ride a unicorn!

"We are still working towards a target for an initial foundation before the end of the year. But we will slip this date if needed"

If the Devs are saying it is possible it will not be out this year I think we are looking at least 9/10 month wait ...... if lucky.

Love the new screens.... There is one thing that bothers me. How big of an impact on the fps will the new buildings have? Rocket said they have optimized the zombies which save some fps. But with every house having modeled interiors and as detailed as the screens look, it will probably have a massive effect on the fps. Especially in the big cities... I have a crappy 8800gt (todays standards) and have been happily playing arma 2 and dayz on low-normal graphics with fps of about 25-40. I would hate to NOT be able to play. So I am a bit worried. What are your toughts. Don't tell me to get a new graphics card cuz that is not an option atm :)

You have to keep in mind that while we won't have new cities or towns, we will have a slew of new enterable buildings.. how many of them will actually be enterable remains to be seen but I feel like that alone will add a whole new dynamic to the game that we haven't yet seen. Smaller, previously (mostly) useless towns will become hubs of possibilities for low-tier players due to the item spawn possibilities being much higher. That change will not only open up the map more than it already is but the functionality will promote more players to venture past the 6 main hubs you see today... With that I hope to see a higher player cap since players will be more spread out as well.

There needs to be an in land city in the middle of the map, until then I'll never walk away from Elektro and Cherno because that is where the fun is to be had.

Well there and Factory, for some reason there is always like a 10 person shoot out there which I don't ever get as factory has nothing in it.
