Paying 1 Euro for one life 10 for 10e w/e, not requiring to buy the game, how would your playstyle be on such terms?

Recommended Posts

The point is you pay, and you have limited amount of lives.

What would this do to the "thrill of the hunt"?

How would you feel in combat when your money is on the line?

How would you react when you meet the random person?

Please note that this is not a thread discussing if they should implement this, Because lets be honest, they probably won't.

Let's also assume there are no hackers/cheaters and stuff.

This style is already being introduced, search the forums for Bounty there's already a discussion about such playing style. I personally don't think paying to play a free mod is ever going to catch on.

I would be in debt for about 1000€ already.

No thanks, I'll stick with the modding community.

Money doesn't make it interesting for me.

Better to hook up a machine that delivers an electrical shock everytime your character dies. Not a letal shock ofcourse :-) Just high enough to

keep you wanting to avoid it. Because it really hurts and it makes you blackout for a couple of minutes...something like that.

The op is thinking of leasing a game for x amount of lifes if i understand correctly which is not very practical since you can buy unlimited lives for 20€.

i have never (and most likely never will) play games that are monthly subscription based / pay to play (apart from the initial game cost)

so my playstyle would change drasticly: i wouldn´t play this/any games.

if there is even a hint of pay to win or any variant for this title im gone..

i already hear that WarZ has some version of Pay2win in its beta..

either charge me up front for the title or dont, but dont ask me to make godam microtransactions for the life of the game.. i HATE that more then anything..

This kind of gaming already existed and has faded into obscurity... I remember the old arcades. Dens of flashy lights, annoyingly loud noise, and drugs aplenty... Girls avoided that place of debauchery like the plague.

IDK what would happen to my playstyle, but at one dollar/euro/ruble/whatever a pop my bank account would drain faster than the US debt is climbing.

This is actually an interesting question and I'm a little bit saddened by the "I wouldn't play it" crowd.

Now, the real philosophy behind the question is how would you play if there was an actual penalty for dying ingame and it's something I wish we were actually able to simulate.

I was always infatuated with the DOThack series, mostly because "the world" was a game with almost complete immersion. People were scared to die, they felt actual fear at the sight of a PKer so much that people dedicated themselves to becoming a PKKer.

I'm getting off topic, but introducing a real emotional response from dying ingame, or a fear of dying, would be a phenomenal leap of immersion that I don't think any game has quite perfected yet. Aside from anger or frustration when dying, and that's not really a good form of immersion. All IMO of course.

Well if it went to making DayZ better I'd pay $.01 per life, look at the number of murders, deaths, etc. Make Life Cards for $1.00, $5.00, $10.00 sell em at GameStops and Local Game stores, DayZ would be the next best idea for MMORPG'ers using a destinctive you die you lose everything platform.

In all seriousness though, Servers aren't free, and updates get less and less effective as the developers pockets dwindle, support I'm all for it, just $1.00 a life, I'll be playing Eve inside a day again. Cheaper.

This playstyle died off with the deep and dark caverns us 80s and earlier kids visited. They' were called arcades. You would stick your money into the machine and BAM! SHIT GOT REAL. You had a limited number of lives, and if you were playing street fighter, you lose one match and it's from joystick to pocket your hand goes.

Hello there

Pay? no thanks, there are enough mods made "not for profit" for arma to keep me occupied. If a server vetc needs funding there are other proved methods.

I already spend too much time stalking the forests of Chernarus if I have high tier gear. Would rather not magnify this boring play style,.

Going on the idea itself, it would kill the standalone outright. It would be the worst decision Rocket would ever make for this game if he did it. I probably wouldn't even play the game. That's on a whole new circle of hell below what some might consider Free to Play to be lol

Now going at it from a hypothetical point, with how it would affect my style...I would not spend much, if any time on the coast. I'd play on mostly empty servers if I ever dreamed of going to Cherno and really most of the time, I'd never really be on any populated server, I'd probably even force myself to play at night only just so I could have the added benefit of night to help me out, it would not be fun, imersive, or enjoyable in any way XD I'd probably just become a bandit and kill on sight what wouldn't be a fact of life as it is now, it would be the "way of life" lol

I dont think hardly any one got the question. He was not saying would you play it if you payed for your lives, he is asking..HOW would you play it.

Its hypothetical.

Lives being worth actual money wouldn't exactly make hacking for basement dwellers or grieving for coastal snipers any less attractive. And then it suddenly becomes much more than just a game for those who get killed. Imagine the tone you'd find in most topics around here (which is already pretty horrible) when people complain about the aforementioned ways of dying repeatedly. Worst idea ever.
