Guessing you havent played BP mod for ARMA3. 3 helos total on Altis and all require not only repairs, but to be hidden well enough that no one can find them- because there are no lockable vehicles. No one, not even large clan groups, maintains possession for very long. Man, you can't even put BP and Epoch in the same sentence, they are so dissimilar. Vehicle implementation in BP is quite well balanced for the aim of the mod. DayZ isn't BP, and should not have helos on a map about 1/5th the size of Altis. It would completely change the vibe of the game.

    Basically, please avoid too much variety of weapons, vehicles if any would even be viable, or loot quantity. I've seen posts more of everything, and for me and hopefully a few others, scarcity enhances the experience. Some on here would like fully stocked arsenals that look like a sporting goods catelog. I shop those in real life and would like to see it avoided in an apacolyptic fps. I hope that clarifies things a bit, and sorry for the bad editing in the opening post.
  4. I'd prefer it if we didn't get vehicles at all, the map is already small, heavily crowded and relatively quickly crossed. With cars the map becomes even smaller, but with that you mostly still have to use roads so you have to take indirect routes. With helicopters the map becomes tiny. I just hope they increase the size of the map before they add vehicles.
  5. Armed helicopters. Everyone has a helicopter in Epoch... eventually. You work towards it and you get one then you use it. What I see come from that. People almost NEVER use them as mobile gun platforms because it is hard to hit while moving, easy to be hit when not moving, and you have to loot ammo for them so you hate to load ammo and lose it on a server restart or waste it all Spray&Pray-ing. Most of the time I go for something that balances out speed, durability, and maneuverability. The BEST use of a helicopter is simply movement. Getting from point A to point B. The problem is that solo it is vulnerable. You have to land to do anything and then even with locked vehicles people can blow it up or camp it and wait for you to return. Therefore the best use of a helicopter is to transport people, maybe items if you are fast about it. I like having one so that when a friend logs in who is a respawn or new to the server I can zip over, pick them up, and be playing with them in 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 hours. Cars are quieter, but have to take different routes. Helicopters can simply go up and over, but then are vulnerable in the air. Getting the crap shot out of your chopper over woods and knowing you are going to have to bail and risk parachuting into a tree is hair raising. It's worse over water or if low to the ground when someone takes out your tail rotor. As long as they are tough to maintain I don't think they will be overpowered. I've hidden from so many choppers in the mod, it is silly. You can hear them from miles away, find cover, and they will never spot someone on foot who is determined to hide.

To this day all the people we have had join have said this is the BEST place they have been to experience epoch to the fullest and have a lot of fun. Right now we are evolving the server everyday with new mods and more fun stuff. All of the people on the server get high fps and no lag. We have a great community with some great admins. Now on to admins. I personally make sure EVERY admin is doing there job correctly and helping players and NOT annoying them. If you want to do everything legit and never even see an admin we will stay out of your way and let you have fun. On the other hand if you want a little help to get going the second you join the server you will be welcomed and you will have a build kit available if you would like it. The Hemp Reward system is a system that I put together myself where if you find hemp field on the map you can collect it and buy cool vehicles and a ton of other stuff. I think it will add an extra bit of fun.   7. It's not our work to add any of the stuff you deem bad, such as extra barracks, extra vehicles, and so on. We as the Developers are keeping it true to "Vanilla" - feeling, whatever the Server-Admins do is out of our reach. Please stick to your existing topic.
  8. There's a vast difference between the attack helicopters (i.e. AH-1Z, UH-1Y, AH-6, AH-64, etc.) and just helicopters with door-mounted weapons as was the case in the mod. Some consider the very inclusion of something that flies, to be overpowered. I've never assigned much merit to that argument. The act of flight isn't, in and of itself, unfair in my opinion. And even if it were, DayZ isn't meant to be a fair or "balanced" experience outright. My main issue with armed helicopters, and helicopters as they were in the mod, is that they were too inconsequential to operate. Ammunition refilled automatically on restart, vice having to forage for ostensibly boxes of 7.62. It didn't take much to fly them. Their parts were generic, not all that rare, and interchangeable with parts from normal vehicles. Graphics settings could be tweaked to maximize aerial visibility. Objects on the ground, like tents and vehicles, were insanely easy to spot owing to a variety of issues (poor graphical contrast, a lack of camouflage options, and relatively sparse woodland areas). There were no volumetric atmospheric effects or weather systems to hamper flight. People could bail out with inconsequential given parachutes and deploy folks on the ground readily. I have no issue with armed helicopters, or with anything really, insofar as they're made rare/difficult to operate/consequential to use. I have no issue with a clan being able to traverse the entirety of the map, raining death upon unsuspecting survivors, so long as they had to work for that capability. Now, things like FLIR and pilot-controlled weapons, I feel shouldn't be included because of my own subjective considerations of how they behave in-game. I don't really like giving a single pilot or pair of pilots that capability. Utilizing an armed helicopter effectively, should be a marked collaborative effort. No one man should just be able to hop in a vacant AH-1Z and fly about with a full complement of Hydras. Which is why I think single-double seat attack helicopters are unwarranted, but certainly not helicopters with door-mounted small arms. Helicopters are one of the most consistent tropes in the zombie apocalypse genre. So I also don't put much stock in the dismissive subjective "feeling" that they somehow don't "fit in the world of DayZ." Likewise, the argument that our "characters" are somehow not capable of flying a helicopter, owing to their inexperience, isn't an argument that I consider either. We play as nothing, our characters aren't "characters" in the traditional sense. They're vessels, marionettes, and avatars to be manipulated by the player in demonstrating his/her own skill. We're not acting, or rather, the game doesn't enforce a background to our characters. We play as nothing. Not 160th SOAR pilots, and not some brainless moron who doesn't even have a driver's license. If they want flying a helicopter to be difficult, then make it difficult for the player. Obviously, folks are going to get good at it... because it's a video game. But they're going to have to invest some significant time in getting really good at it. It can be both hard to do and hard to master. It shouldn't just be plug-and-play.

    Didn't i read somewhere they were hoping to extend the map, so as you passed the border of one map you'd arrive on another server playing another map, which would be completely seamless? the goal would be to have the whole country mapped out including the capital, Novigrad, which is a city almost the size of the current map on its own. Then i'd find vehicles justified.

    Other than the vehicles I'm unsure how anything that you stated about the other maps isn't in the current one? Any custom maps I downloaded for the mod were played a couple times and never touched again...

    I don't know about that. Lingor - Really showcases certain vehicles. If you play on a mod that has the Vodnik you really learn to appreciate it's amphibious nature. I escaped several bad encounters simply because I could go across water that my pursuers ended up going around. Military gear is scattered around, a little bit here, a little there, but there are still a couple areas that have a bit more spawning there so you can find a decent gun by hitting all of the outlying little spawns instead of having to make a dash into a high traffic very dangerous area. It just means you will have to hit MORE of them to find anything worthwhile. I really like this map, especially the updated one with more land in the Northern area. Boats are actually useful on this map as well, not something you can say about most maps. NAPF - Towns look like towns, many places look like they fit. There are 5 "bases" to find military loot in in different areas of the map. No one can camp the 2-3 that exist and choke down good gun spawns to the rare firestation spawn. There are also things like houses in the woods overlooking a pond that look like vacation spots, castles in a couple areas, big cities, and wilderness. I enjoy this map.
  13. Added it so you cant tow or lift locked vehicles.. this will prevent the base fishing and also make the hot wire kits available through the orange missions used more and more valuable.

    DayZ moving to new engine - ENFUSION

    More like a branch of RV, which only caries over the basic algorythms in the core engine. When they are done with it, its gonna be so far from RV, it deserves its own name. Everything else is being build from scratch, to meet the requirements of the game. Thats why we dont have respawning loot, respawning zombies, zombies at all actually, vehicles, and what ever else we had in the mod. They took RV3, took it apart, put a little RV4 in there and starting expanding the current framework, so its not really a new engine, we already have it :) Everything they mention is gonna come into the game, one bit at a time, over the next 1-2 years, so just sit back and see how it unfolds.

    If by "fuck all to do" you mean there isn't early stages of hunting, crafting, fishing, exploring, finding rare loot or even to PVP against KOS assholes then you sure are missing out IMHO. Even without vehicles, economy or barricading I find plenty of shit to do to keep me busy. I don't resort to shameless KOS mentality because it takes zero skill to do anything but run around and blast people or pretend I'm the next Governor. Want to try this game on the real hard mode I suggest you try and survive without turning to the dark side. Hell if we want to get technical this game is trash if you're looking at it from a shooter-only perspective. I have no idea why anyone would want to torture themselves and waste so much time pretending this game was a decent shooter if that's the way you want to look at it. My guess is they suck at real shooters so they come to DayZ for the cheap easy kills. Yes guns are in this game for a reason but compare gunplay from other AAA fast-paced FPS and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize where DayZ or even Arma stacks up on that list. Shit even twitch shooters like Loadout are bettter than the crude gun mechanics in DayZ. However what those dime-a-dozen cupcake shooters lack is the realism and that's what this game is all about and what makes it great for many of us. It's not to see who is the next CoD or Rust leaderboard kiddie 420blaze360noscopeMLG_Pro. Nobody gives a fuck about your KD in this game but people do give a fuck about how they are treated or killed in this case. So spare us the "there isn't enough content" excuse and just man up and say you want to KOS because that's what you like. At least then I'd give you some respect instead of hiding behind some blanket excuse like 'lack of content'. They could add in barricading and economy tomorrow and I'm sure the same people that KOS would be KOS'ing there too. Content (or lack thereof in some peoples' minds) isn't the problem....

    You guys keep telling yourself that. Enjoy killing mindless, stupid zombies that offer absolutely zero challenge. I can literally spawn fresh, run The Path of the Warrior, get fully geared, and then sit around twiddling my thumbs all in under two hours. That's on a full server too, as most people tend to gravitate around the coast. There is absolutely no challenge in this game other than PvP. Whether or not you can find other things to do like count the blades of grass between towns, organize "Peace Walks", make a camp fire and tell scary stories to your role-playing friends, or whatever else it is that floats your boat, none of that changes the fact that this game is based 100% on player encounters, which 9 times out of 10 turn sour. Whether it's offensive killing or defensive killing, the backbone of DayZ is the PvP. No one has a memorable zombie encounter beyond their very first confrontation with one. You can literally fight three or more zombies at once with your fists. But I guarantee everyone has multiple memorable fire fights they shared with other players. Most people (myself included) started DayZ with the intent of being a nice survivor, letting other like-minded passersby go on their way while gunning down the occasional "evil-doer". After a few days, this outlook generally dissipates and the player is then just looking to kill everyone they see out of boredom, spite, or contempt. They can add barricading, vehicles, whatever. Unless they come up with some sort of reason for players to co-exist and work toward a common goal, this will never change. Period.
  20. The Hunting Grounds THG is a DayZ Lingor Server hosted by Vilayer. We have our own webpage, forumsand teamspeak. Our staff has both admins and developers. We are an open concept community and prefer to share our ideas and decisions with our players, so you'll see that even the staff sections of our forums are open for everyone to take a look and voice their opinion. But then again, you probably don't want to hear about that just yet. When it comes to our DayZ Server, we offer our players a variety of customizations, granted, many of them can be found on any server, but it's the mixture that makes us a unique place to visit and have fun, either alone or with friends. As you can see, we've implemented most of the community scripts that can be found on OpenDayZ and other sources. However, we have also implemented some "home-brew" scripts by our own developers. You may be asking yourself, what are those "custom locations". For that, I believe a picture says more than a thousand words, here, have a look: Also, let me tell you that these custom locations aren't just pretty to look at. Our developers have gone through great lengths to motivate players to go there. These bases offer everything a survivor (or bandit) may want, weapons, supplies, vehicle parts... Or just a place to fight over for dominance! Our server tries to appeal to everyone. Survivors and Bandits should feel at home. The size of Lingor itself allows for fast-paced action across the map, and the custom locations, increased number of vehicles and other scripts added to the server make it so you don't have to spend too much time "gearing up" before you can actually start "surviving". Now, don't get us wrong. We enjoy the survival aspect of DayZ. And our server clearly puts this into evidence. Our vehicles don't spawn full repaired (or even close) and finding a helicopter crash site is extremely rare, up to the point where only a small number of our players go around with .50 cals. We are not a fresh server. We have been active for almost six months now. Sadly, due to really bad customer support from our previous hoster, we were forced to suddenly change our IP, making us lose a good chunk of our regulars (unless until they find us again). In any case, our previous server was good enough to make it to the 23th position worldwide! That said, there's always room for growth and we'd like more people to join and, if possible, actively participate in the decision-making and suggestion box of our community. What else is there to say? I could talk about our admins, but telling you how we try to be fair and not abuse our powers is pointless. Who would promote his own server saying otherwise? I could tell you about how hackers are rare, but again, same problem. Bottom line: There's always complaints and there's always hackers. We do our best, but it's up to you - the player - to check it our for yourself. Well, I believe I've said my piece.     I guess you mean admins asking for donations? this is basically true with every game from minecraft to garry's mod, personally I wouldn't join a server that gives big advantages for donations, but that's me. As for 100000 helis or vehicles or loot, who cares? You don't need to join that server, heck I wouldn't even care if they had flying enabled and advertised their server as flying mod dayz, remember these are suppose to be differnet to the official server otherwise there isn't much point to it, they would be like the crazy golf of golf.

  24. Everyone is pretty much a bandit now. And i think the reason is because there is nothing else to do. Its so easy to survive there is food/water in nearly every building. Plus there is still no threat from the zombies. Everyone thinks they are such a bad ass bandit, but sometimes it takes these guys two, three reloads to kill you! even when you are a fresh spawn and can't fire back. I Really believe if there were way less food and drink and we finally had decent zombies in numbers, more people would "play" the game in different roles. Right now just seems like big open deathmatch. dont get me wrong i love a bit of pvp, but I miss the teaming up to survive. I know they are working hard on it, but for me the zombies should have been way further down the line even before release of this alpha. Put the zombies as number one priority then tents/vehicles, everything else can wait. Just hope its not too late by the time they finally get it sorted.

    Yes, there are plans for vehicles, and no, there will not be a save feature. Moved to 'New Player Discussion'. EDIT: This is on purpose, it is by design. It is supposed to be that way, and it is the reason so many people play this game. It makes it tense. It gives you something to lose and something to protect.
