    So, correct me if I'm wrong. Since vehicles are persistent, they won't respawn at their normal points during a server restart if I have previously driven them into the debug zone?

    The problem with allowing players to use the debug zone is that all the vehicles disappear very quickly and never see the light of day again.

    I don't think movement speed will ever be reduced. Unlimited sprinting will soon be a thing of the past, as the devs went over how the stamina system currently works recently in a SR; we should start to see the slowing of sprinting when tired, and faster depletion of energized / hydrated statuses while sprinting. Same thing with vehicles. Once you have to spend a lot of time on foot before you can get a working truck (already somewhat introduced in stable with the breaking down of wheels, and more so in experimental with batteries and glow plugs), the map will seem a LOT bigger.

    The map itself is most definitely not "too big". Chernarus+ is larger than 225km^2, which is what the mod had. The actual land area is 14km x 13km Rather, we, the players, move too fast. Just when (non-stop) sprinting, we can cover the map, corner to corner, in about 30 minutes (I've done it) Add vehicles, and we move faster still. Slow down the movement speed, remove unlimited sprint, and the map will seem larger. Besides, if you want to find an area on the map where people won't find your base, you actually have to go where others do not go. EVERYONE places a camp on the borders of the map, so that is where people go to look for them. You can instead go to an area limited by Nadezhdino on the west, the Black Forest on the north, Pusta on the south, and Tulga on the east. Extremely rough, mountainous country that, in an earlier patch, I was in for 2 goddamn weeks and I never saw another soul.

    DayZ REALLY needs to add basebuilding or barracading

    I agree. I value barricading and persistence way more than vehicles. In April 2014 Rocket was saying that persistence, world containers and barricading would be the focus (even before vehicles). I find it sad that this focus as changed.
  6. Most of us are plum tired of waiting at this point, and there are many Arma 3 mods out there that offer this feature that are thinning out the community. DayZ will always reign supreme, but most of us aren't getting any younger and don't have 2-5 years of development to wait for this type of thing. Base building, or barricading, is the corner stone of the survival genre. We want to take over area's, fortify and defend them against the living and the dead. I realize good things can't be rushed, but it needs to be moved up in the priority list. Vehicles are awesome, but I'm sure if you took a poll, basebuilding would probably take priority. We want to stash our items, not in a bugged/giant tent, and raid bases. We want to create checkpoints. Please, let's atleast make some sort of announcement on this. I've had 2 children since DayZ SA was released, TWO!....and Alpha is still in the far future.

    There we go... more accurate reflection of what will occur. People adding easy mode mods into their own servers drug the Mod down, tripped it, kicked it for a bit, and left it a whimpering ball of crap. Don't get me wrong, some mods were awesome and I look forward to seeing those, but people adding in auto starting gear, 10,000 vehicles, tanks, military choppers, a hundred extra military gear spawns, and such ruined the game. "Well don't play on those servers." Great advise except in general people tend to want to take the easy way out and when they see they can start on this other server with an AK in their pocket and a huge backpack with enough food and drink to last for days and enough ammo to shoot everything that moves in Berezeno for the next 4 hours they will flock to that server in droves... then a month later complain about how stale DayZ is. Then come the tanks and choppers... then the complain about how stale it is... then comes a mission system with HUGE rewards which they flock to... and then complain about how stale DayZ is.

    Wiping out the player database?

    ok, so I'll answer my own post. I needed to delete anything that my character owned in object_data (delete from object_data where characterid=10' [where 10 was my characterid from the character_data table]). Since I was wiping out the player db, I just deleted it all and respawned the vehicles, etc. now I know just a little bit more!

    Recipe Book + Medical Journal + Mechanic Manual

    I like the idea but it needs tweaking. How about experience being gained from doing repair and finding books excelling your progress. I personally don't agree with people who think that a life in DayZ should not be treasured and is worthless. I think that dying in DayZ should have a bigger effect than just putting you back on the coast so u can run back to your tent and re-gear. Hear me out. What if you can find a notepad and when doing maintenance on vehicles your notepad starts filling with tips and shortcuts, maybe some improvised short term items could be made to get a vehicle moving for a short distance. Reading books could add more of these tips and improvisations. Upon dying your notepad is not lootable even if you are returning to your corpse and without the notepad with content u obviously cant make these items. You could take it a lot further. Use it for gardening, making clothes etc. Start off with very basics items and crafting them would unlock improvements that could be incorperated into your next craft. Hopefully someone can help me improve this idea. Have a nice DayZ :)

    Whats the situation on tents?

    This is pure speculation on my part but I think essentially it will be similar, but with the focus changed from trying to hide tents/bases to defending them with mechanics that work while you're not online, such as traps and barricading/locking. We've seen some traps already implemented and there's models for trip wire grenades and the like. With the size of tents being what they are, there's no hope of ever hiding them. Again, without glitching them in the mod, it was essentially impossible to hide a tent in the mod for any extended period of time and the ones we have in the SA are way larger and more obvious. They've also introduced things like a canopy to park vehicles in. They've mentioned being able to add foliage and camo these things, but let's be real, anything like that is going to still stick out on the map because it's static. So I could be wrong, but it seems likely that in the SA you'll end up with something like player built encampments. Protected by some sort of fence/gate and various traps and locks (with countermeasures). I believe they've mentioned smaller stashes that are camouflaged to look like stumps or something so that will probably play into the lonewolf thing. Not to mention world containers (cabinets/etc) Any ways, it all remains to be seen. I strongly believe they should have started work on this already and even earlier because I think base building in a game like this is the one of the most difficult things to balance. Look at a game like Rust, which is basically built around it and they are still constantly tweaking it. It's something that will never be perfect, so waiting till the last minute (it's slated for Q4 right now if I'm not mistaken) is a bad idea.

    whats the plan for optimization?

    I saw an update from Hicks that the next 5 or 6 patches would just be doing 'random stuffs', and then they will have some more patches of 'gun adding'. I suspect that when that is done, they will have a few patches of 'adding vehicles', and then patch .72 is scheduled to be 'refined swimming strokes'. After that, full optimization is scheduled.

    Thanks for the in-depth report on the new renderer. This is really cool. I'm so glad that working mirrors (especially rear view mirrors in vehicles for 1PP mode) and cameras are features that you are planning on adding. Are you talking about an actual workbench to build items on? Or is this some sort of software that has to do with the enfusion engine. Can you elaborate on this any more? (or maybe Hicks_206?) Thanks for doing Q&A on reddit. Problem is, I hardly ever check the /r/dayz subreddit because it is horrible. I'll make a point to check it regularly for you to post, as your and other devs direct replies are very very very interesting and helpful to read. Maybe figure out how to update the "dev tracker" section of the forums to link to reddit every time one of you guys do a Q&A. Twitter Q&As too (as sometimes I miss these).     This game isn't set in Russia. Chernarus was the center of US/NATO/UN intervention. It is common practice to place translated signs in English for personnel using local roads. Seeing how foreign involvement extended to sandbag forts, light armored vehicles and HESCO walled bases, signs at least at major roads and intersections wouldn't be too far fetched. English is the language of trade, Even Air Traffic Control towers and civilian pilots need to be able to speak it. Here have some signs in Russia that have an English translation:

    DayZ Mod 1.8.6.1

    Feedback on new vehicle spawn system: I've been playing on US434 and since the new vehicle spawn system was introduced (and the bug was fixed that was preventing them from spawning), the vehicle system has become far too easy. So far in the last week of playing, every vehicle we've found has been ready to drive. Same for helicopters. We haven't found one yet that we've had to attach a single part to in order to get it airborne (only needed fuel). IMO, this ruins one of the best features of DayZ mod. I get that the idea was to randomize the repair state of vehicles, but if we're honest, all vehicles have ever needed to get up and running is 4 wheels. Randomizing it only makes it easier than that (can't get more difficult, spawning with 100% engine damage destroys the vehicle), and currently it doesn't even feel random as every vehicle we've found has been ready to drive. Before you ask, these are definitely fresh spawn vehicles, as we've found them in areas that are logical for fresh spawns and are definitely not a place that players would hide them, not to mention the vehicle inventories were empty which usually is not the case when finding a vehicle that other players have hidden. I have to ask, what was the motivation to change the repair state of vehicles in the first place? One of the cornerstone features of DayZ mod was hard to find vehicles that took time and effort to repair. I appreciate and enjoy many of the other tweaks and additions to the game over the last year and a half, but as far as vehicles are concerned I feel that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" applies. Vanilla DayZ mod is increasingly feeling more like one of the lesser derivative mods as things are becoming easier and more and more variables such as zombie damage and full moon settings are being left up to server admins. Lord knows US434 is my favorite server but kid gloved zombies, ready to drive vehicles, and full moon nights make the game a bit too easy. As for other things included in this update (don't want this post to be entirely negative), I'm LOVING the new weapon attachment system, the vehicle respawn delay is great (no more run to NWAF at restart, hop in plane, find all heli crashes and hidden vehicles in 20 minutes), love the combo lock feature, and living all the little fixes that came with this patch.

On the server there are NOT TRADERS, so you need to find all by your luck ;) How to get lockboxs, vaults? You have 50% chance to find lockbox on all AI Missions. Then if you have 5 lockboxs you can exchange it to 1 vault, but lockbox and vault are not as safe as on normal Epoch, You can brake it by using on it hot Wire kit (50% chance). On the server You can find 3 Fallen Camp's, where You can find special zombies. What you can loot from it? - tent - 30m plot - combo lock The serwer is much different from other Epochs, why? becaue I am working on it very hard, a lot of scripts are writed by me and You won't find it on other serwers ;) For example: - new HUD (can see on sreens) - new Bunkier Mission - new upgrades for suv to do it more armored (can see on screen) - new survivor clothes - fast actions like bandaging, using morphine and using painkillers by pressing F5 button and scripts edited by me like: - You can carry 2 primary weapons at the same time and fast switching betweem them by using 1,2,3,4 buttons (can see on screens) - You can travel on a back of a lot of vehicles (can see on screens) Let's show You some screens!

Every time that I start to think about how they could improve the V3S spawns and system, I remember that with the new vehicle system (i.e. repairing vehicles) there won't be any "truck spawn", rather truck parts spawns. It seems like these features will be in the soon upcoming 0.58 exp (early this week according to hicks). Hopefully vehicle inventories will come soon after.

    Have it in a backpack and use it in emergency situations, or make sure you're cooled off enough to go out and use it. Get soaking wet in ponds to cool off. And the reason you lost it on restart is because (I think) persistence is disabled for now. (Not including vehicles)

    Ok, over 1000 hours here. Can someone explain to me the logic in the change to having a weapon placeholder in your inventory? (for the newest players) Last patch, if you had a weapon in your inventory, then you armed it, it reserved those spaces in your backpack so that when the weapon was disarmed, the weapon would return and not drop to the ground. I have dropped and lost over 5 good weapons, either getting into vehicles or just when running and having added items to my backpack. Does anyone else find this terribly annoying? I see it as a amateur dev move to remove something like this. At least add a sound effect of a weapon hitting the ground when you accidentally drop one.

    It probably wasn't me as I generally don't leave vehicles in the woods, but my favorite pastime is parking a V3S in a visible area and camping it from afar with my scope zeroed on the driver door. Let the bodies hit the metaphorical floor, old bean.
